Enter Harlequine: The Shattered
Harlequine's phone rang noisily into the night. "Nn.." A hand flew over to her nightstand from its previous position under her pillow. The phone flashed a bright blue and she had to close her mismatched eyes to protect them from the LCD screen. Her thumb pressed the 'answer' button. "H-Hullo..?" She rasped into the receiver.
Mary gave a sigh of relief. Placing her hand upon the receiver's mouthpiece, she looked at Simon. "She answered. Hello? Harlequine, it's me, Mary." A hand reached into her hair as she threaded her fingers through it. 'I hope she can help..' She thought, biting her lowerlip as she thought and looked over at her fiance, who simply looked as though he were ready to kill something, as frantically as he was now searching for Dracula's ashes.
"Mary.." Harlequine mumbled then rolled over in her bed to look at her bedside clock, which read 3:12 AM. "Mary, have you any idea.. what time it is?" She asked, her voice, laced with the Transylvanian accent, slurred because of her sleep deprivation. Once more, her mismatched blue and periwinkle eyes shut, her head dipping as she listened to Mary speak.
Mary drummed her fingertips on the table with the phone on it. "Yes, Harlequine, I know it's late, but.." She paused as she heard Harlequine draw a sharp intake of breath in. "Listen, before you start bitching, just.. listen. You know how we gathered and stored Dracula's ashes? You know, safely, in an urn, in my house?" She heard Harlequine's mumbled reply. "Well.. they're gone."
Harlequine sprung out of bed. Her legs swung over the edge. "WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THEY ARE GONE?!" She yelled into the receiver. "Do you have any IDEA what can happen now that they are gone? He could be given a bodily form, blood, flesh.. you know what will happen. It's going to happen, and already you can tell!" She turned on the light, running over to her closet. "He can't have gone far, can he?" She asked, her pale skin now illuminated by the light in her room. "Alright, Give me a little bit more than 4 to 5 hours, I'll get to New York, somehow.." She mumbled, "You better be praying to God I can get a flight this early."
Mary grimaced as Harlequine yelled into the receiver. Damn that girl has lungs.. She sighed, "Alright. I'm praying you can get here fast. I need you here fast. I'm sure he's being resurrected now, my blood is rushing, my heart is beating faster, and it feels as though I'm able to breathe better now. I had the same feeling when he was revived the last time, like he wants my soul. . ." Simon looked at her, "Now, Mary.. you know you're safe while you reside here, right?" Mary smiled softly at her fiance and nodded. "Yes, Simon, I do- now, Harlequine, just.. get here as fast as possible. I'll see you soon."
Harlequine hit the end button on her cell phone, setting it on her night stand. "First werewolves now .. Dracula.. What next? Good old Nessie?" She opened her closet door, tugged out a long jacket, a black form fitting tee shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of tennis shoes. She reached into one of the baskets in her closet, pulling out a simple pair of underwear and a black lace bra.
Running into the bathroom, she shed her black strapless nightgown. Her breasts met the cold of her bathroom and she slipped into the bathtub. "Might as well clean up before hand.." She bent over, twisting the knob to turn on the water. She turned it to hot and tugged on the plug to make it a shower. "Nn.. warm.." She mumbled, her head tilting back, her auburn, jaw length hair matted fast against her jaw.
She ran her fingers through her hair before letting a hand stray to pull down a bottle of shampoo. She opened the bottle and stepped away from the water, letting a bit of shampoo fall into place in the palm of her hand. She set down the bottle and rubbed her hands together, again running her fingers through her hair, massaging the shampoo into her scalp. She stepped back under the water, and a vision clouded her mind.
A man, clad in a black overcoat, a black fitting tee and black slacks with a pair of matching dress shoes, stood at the door of her bathroom. The vision, although it was brief, allowed her to see what she was facing. His hair was slightly waved, his eyes a hazel, and his face very handsome, his jaw set before his mouth opened to speak. "You are nothing compared to me. She may call you, and she may want him.. but she is mine." With that, the vision faded. Once the suds ran from her scalp to the floor of the bath tub, she hurriedly washed down her body with lavendar body wash and rinsed.
She stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around her body, making it a hurry to dress herself. She tugged on her underwear, pulled her bra on and fastened it, and followed suit with the shirt and shorts, socks and tennis shoes. A sigh escaped her lips. "I have to hurry.." She whispered, not caring to blow dry her hair. She pulled her phone and wallet off the nightstand, and headed out the door, hurrying down the steps and out the front door.
"I wish it were a lot easier to get to get to N.Y.C.." Harlequine was glad she lived close to the local air port as she walked twenty blocks to get there. She entered and stepped to the circulation. "One ticket to New York City." She said simply, paying for it after following the procedure. She passed through security simply, and as she slipped her shoes back on, her phone went off again.
She ignored it, this time, and made her way to the pick up station, where she was right on time for her flight. "4 AM roundtrip to New York City is now boarding." The P.A. went off, and she followed the hall to the boarding of the plane. "A13.. a window seat." She mumbled and stepped onto the plane. "Thank god for being first class.." She sat down in her seat, and stared out the window.
"I'll be there soon, Mary.. I promise."
