The offer
I own all characters in this story. They are my own creation.
New-York City, September 3rd, 2056.
Toshia was a potent, army trained, 5' 3 killing machine.
She knew all the right places to strike and she ALWAYS made it lethal. She was the perfect soldier; no family, no close friends, no fear and little to no mercy.
Her nickname was "Nitro"and she wore it well.
Toshia had requested a 3-month leave from her duties. Although she thoroughly enjoyed kicking ass, she also enjoyed life outside of her assignments. Especially the night life . . .
She pulled a tight black tank top over her head, slipped on her 'fuck me' jeans and zipped up her favorite knee-high, high-heeled boxing boots.
She was preparing to hit 'the Sauna', a well-known club in down town New-York.
Before stepping out she took out a form-fitting leather coat out of the closet.
As she was swinging it around to slide her arms in the sleeves, the communication pad located just under her skin behind the ear chimed, alerting her of someone(the base no doubt) wanting to establish a link.
She applied a light pressure on the tiny device."This is Nitro, who's speaking?" She asked VERY annoyed.
"Yes hello. This is Dr. Nathan Brown. You were referred to me by Lieutenant Reeves. Do you have a minute?" asked the somewhat elderly voice at the other end.
"Make it short n' sweet Doctor, you’re on my time now" she answered without missing a beat.
"I was told you were informed of project "Wave 34" is this correct?"
"Your time travel thing?" " Yeah, what about it?"
"Well I've just finished running the last tests and it's ready as of today . . . "
"And what does this have to do with me, I ain't no lab rat?" She said cutting him off.
"The tests have already been done as I've said before, I want you to make the first long distance jump . . . "
"Jump, why me?" The surprise resounded in her tone.
"You've studied ancient languages and your looks could very well help you pass for an ancient Aztec native. "
"What, why would I . . . what do you mean I . . . HUH?!!!...where the hell would I be going?" She stuttered in surprise.
"Bouvetoya Island, 11 000 B.C."
"WHAT!!!!!" Toshia exclaimed then laughing her ass off.
"Your kidding me right?!" (Trying to stop laughing between words).
"No, I'm not." Dr. Brown said sternly.
"Yeah well let me think about it ok. I’ll call you back on it?"(Still laughing between words.)
With absolutely no intention of calling Dr. "NUTS" back, she ended the communication with a touch, still laughing at the fact that he might have thought she'd actually say, "Sure I'll be right over" . . . "Yeah Uhuh!!" She thought again, practically unable to stand she was laughing so hard.
Finally over it, she walked out the door and headed down town. When she got there, it was packed as usual. She elbowed her way to the d-j's booth to request her favorite techno-hip-hop track and proceeded to the middle of the dance floor, where as always, people quickly moved out of the way to form a circle around her. Her hypnotic movements captured the crowd, leaving them in aw.
Her athletic body twisted and turned, combining break moves with hip-hop and a hint of kung-fu. Her performance, as always, was mind blowing by any standards, and clearly defined her body's agility and speed. Toshias’ one woman show lasted about 20 long minutes before she finally got the urge to get a drink.
She made her way through the cheering crowd and ordered a cold beer. Her long brown- blonde streaked hair was soaking wet as was most of her body from her workout.
Just when she was about to take a sip. A voice came up from behind her.
"Nitro?" The stranger spoke.
"Who's asking?" She snapped as she swiftly turned to face the large person infront of her.
"I'm sorry to be intruding on your time but this is rather urgent." The dark-haired man practically screamed, trying to be heard above the music.
"Oh you must be a friend of the doctors’." (She presumed from him knowing about this being HER time).
"Actually, I'm more of an associate." He answered while handing her a tiny envelope.
Toshia gave him a cocky look as she swiftly ripped through the paper to look at the contents.
Her look quickly became one of surprise accompanied by her mouth dropping open.
"This amount will be directly credited to your account if you accept. Half before you leave, half when you've returned." Said the mobster looking individual.
"I guess Dr. Brown is really serious about wanting me in on this, huh?"
"I think the numbers speak for themselves." Agreed the man.
"Well . . . I guess one cannot argue with such a big amount of conviction!" Toshia agreed in turn, her eyes still not believing the numbers before her.
"Ok then . . . When, where and how?" She said after downing her beer, one shot.
" NOW . . . and fallow me, you'll know 'how' when we get there." Said the stranger, inviting her to follow him with a gesture.
"Don't I get to pack some shit before I go?"
"Where you're going, the only shit you'll need is the shit we'll be sending with you." He spoke as they walked toward the exit.
"I must be out of my fucking mind!" Thought Toshia as she was urged to enter a black BMW waiting for them outside.
The drive felt like it would last forever before they finally arrived at what seemed to be some kind of airport. Once they were inside, she was escorted over to a large air craft.
Toshia was given no time for a second thought as she was instructed to board the
craft with her host at her side.
"You guys don't waste any time do ya?!" she said with a smirk.
The strange man sitting across from her just looked up to her and continued strapping himself in without saying a word.
"It's ok, I just LOVE knowing just about nothing till I get there!" She added, much sarcasm intended.
The air craft's ascension was practically silent and flawless. In no time, they had picked up speed and were ripping across the sky toward Antarctica.
"This device is one of the fastest ever conceived. We'll be above Bouvetoya in less than an hour." Said the stranger, finally giving up some kind of info.
"Wow! That is fast . . . Why do we need to go all the way to Bouvetoya to go back in time?"
"The location of departure, must correspond to the location of arrival."
Toshia gave him a "HUH?" look, and so he continued his explanation.
"We want you to be in Bouvetoya 11 000 B.C., so you have to be there in the present as well . . . Wherever you start off, you will end up in the exact same location; only the time will be different."
"Ok . . . what happens if there was a rock, a tree or a building at that place before?"
"You don't need to be worried about that. Our scientists have determined the level of the soil and any possible existing structures around the area of departure at that time. The chances of "F.W.S.M." are almost nil."
"What does "F.W.S.M." mean?" She asked, as she crinkled an eye brow and clued the corner of her top lip.
" Oh that? Fusing with solid matter." He answered nonchalantly.
"FEW! I am SOOO glad we had this conversation, cause you know, I just might have been worried there if we hadn’t!" Said Toshia, rolling her eyes back, then leaning forward to grab her head with both hands.
"What the fuck did I get myself into?" She mumbled, as the huge craft started descending toward the ground.
As soon as they had set foot on the ground, Dr. Brown was already on his way to greet them. He arboured a large smile as he extended his hand to Toshia.
"Welcome to Bouvetoya my dear, I see my associate Dr. Redken was able to convince you. Please, follow me." Said the elderly man, motioning her to fallow.
The small group slowly made their way into a large dome like structure. As they progressed to its core, Dr. Brown briefed Toshia on the procedures involved.
When they had arrived at the destination, Toshia was amazed at what her eyes showed her.
A gigantic crater, a few miles wide was covered by a gigantic inverted cone-shaped grid.
In the center of it, a large metal platform with two prong shaped objects on each side.
"You will be fitted with a bracelet that will allow you too activate the time travel device
from where or "when," should I say, you will be . . . Know this however; to be able to come back, you have to be at the exact location you first appeared in."
"Why,is it the same principal as what you explained before?"
"Yes,because that is where the time wave back to our time will re-form"
"Ok, and what if I need to talk to you guys. Is there any way for that to happen?"
" Yes, the bracelet acts as a communicator and it will open small portals in the time-space
continuum, just long enough for short messages to come through . . . The only hick, is that the
messages won't reach us until quite a few hours after they have been sent, and vice-versa"
"Hell, I can live with that, what's a few hours compared to 13 056 years ay?" She said giving him an obvious "You fucking moron" look.
"Well, shall we get started?" Dr. Brown asked as he guided Toshia to a small chamber in the
outskirt of the large grid-covered crater.
"Lead the way Doc." She smirked as she fallowed once again.
Once inside, she was asked to strip and put on a different kind of attire. Something that looked like an Indian two-pieced animal skin suit.
"I take it this is what the locals used to wear huh?" She said gloomily, looking down at herself.
"Yup." Said a strange stuck-up looking woman behind a large set of controls.
"Another associate?" Toshia asked looking back to the doctor.
"No, I'm just going to assist Dr. Brown in sending you off to Never Land!" The woman answered in his place with a silly laugh.
"Oh dear God, please tell me that wasn’t supposed to be funny, and if so, let her aim be better than her sense of humor!!!!" Toshia pleaded, turning to face both Dr. Brown and his associate.
"Don't worry, she's the best at what she does, besides me that is." Assured the doctor.
After another short briefing, Toshia was escorted to the center of the crater, toward the metal platform. It was quite a long walk to get there, and when they had finally made it, the doctor spoke to her one last time before making his way back to the control panel one the outskirt of the crater.
"Toshia, remember, you must retrieve as many samples as you can. Vegetation, animal, human and mineral. Contact will be made only if absolutely necessary. We expect you back in 48 hours."
Toshia looked at the doctor and swallowed hard. It hadn’t been until that very moment that Toshia realized she was actually going to be propelled back in time more than 13 000 years. Dr. Brown noticed the sudden anguish in her eyes, and held her hand with a smile.
"Don't worry my dear. They don't call you 'Nitro' for nothing! I have the utmost confidence in you. Good luck Nitro." Said the old man, barely bringing a glimmer of relief to Toshias’ suddenly tortured mind.
She was suddenly snapped out of her torment when the good doctor took out a large needle out of his pocket. The needle contained a light turquoise liquid that seemed to glow ever so lightly.
"Give me your arm." He said as he reached out to grab it before she could comply.
"What's that for?" Toshia asked slightly alarmed by the size of the contents.
"Time travel has proved to be VERY hard on the system. This is a slightly ionized solution
that will keep your cell structure from collapsing during the jump ."
"Oh . . . ok . . . " She mumbled, doing everything in her power not to start running scared.
Yeah, she was fearless of any man for sure, but this . . . well this really went beyond a simple; "You touch my ass and I'll kill yours", situation.
With all the courage she could possibly muster, Toshia surrendered her arm and agreed to the fact that she might never live to see another day . . . Or the present time for that matter . . .
The injection was just as painful as she imagined it would be. She had the impression she was being pumped full of javex and it burned like bloody hell.
Her vision blurred for a moment, as Dr. Brown sat her down smack dab in the middle of the platform. He then turned and started running as fast as his elderly legs could carry him.
Dazed and slightly confused, Toshia looked on as strange lights started dancing all around her. An alarm went off, and she could hear a voice ordering all personnel to evacuate from the grid.
Even her hearing seemed distorted at that moment. She could hear a count down going on, but it seemed so far away. Suddenly, in a matter of seconds, Toshias’ body was lifted off the ground.
The lights that danced around her, engulfed her completely and she felt as though
her body was being exposed to a massive surge of electricity. The pain was almost unbearable, and then . . .
Nothing . . .
Dr. Brown and his colleges watched as Toshias’ body rose above the metal platform and disappeared
into the large ball of light, created by the two large metal prongs. After the readings on her bracelet indicated she had survived the jump, Dr. Brown smiled then turned to his associate.
"Dr. Redken, call Lieutenant Reeves, tell him subject 563 has successfully made the jump, and we are awaiting further instructions."
I'm sure you guys were desperately waiting to see what would happen to Peya-Luna and Shyann, but that's coming up in the next chapter . . . Double cliffhanger . . . Sorry Chancelor . . . You know I WUV you!!!! Thanks for the spelling check again Shiya.
