Two
They drove to Westin Hills early the next morning. They had spent the entire day planning. They would break in, steal as much of the Hypnocil as they could and then go to Crystal Lake. The only flaw in their plan was how to get Jason to follow them. But Will said he would figure something out before the time came. On their way to the hospital, Hailey slept on the floor of the van, Freeburg watching her to make sure that nothing happened. Their weak bond had strengthened with the events of the past 24 hours. Losing Serena had been a blow to both of them. Hailey carried a sick bit of knowledge with her. Jason never went down without taking people with him. Maybe two of them would survive their mission, and with Freddy also on the loose, Hailey wasn't sure if the dual forces of death would save or make sure that they all suffered.
When they got to the hospital at three in the morning, they made sure that someone was left manning the van. Linderman drew that straw. While Lori, Will and Kia went to find the drugs, Hailey went with Stubbs and Freeburg to try and find something else that could help. Maybe something to bring down Jason. They were also there to make sure no one found the others.
"Hey, let's take a j-break," Freeburg said and took out a joint.
"Dude, he's a cop," Hailey said and rolled her eyes.
"What's he going to do, arrest me?"
"Fine."
Those were the last words they would ever say to each other. While he lit up, Hailey followed Stubbs to the giant computer room, hoping to find someway to track down the drugs. It was sadly enough, the lights and power. Hailey figured out a way to shut off power to the security system and was about to shut down the powers to the rooms and non-essential offices, the door broke down.
And in the doorway stood Jason.
Hailey screamed and backed into a corner. Jason swung his machete and it grazed her side. A small bit of blood appeared. The blade hit the machines and sparks began to fly. She ran and was able to duck under Jason's arm and get out. Stubbs wasn't so lucky. Jason grabbed him and basically fried him. His gun had fallen out and Hailey grabbed it. She ran in the direction of D-Wing which was one of the places the others had been heading.
When she met up with them, it wasn't looking good. They hadn't been able to find any and Freeburg had thrown the pills down the drain when they had finally been able to find the correct cabinets. Now, escape was the only plan. Hailey stayed to try and find maybe a few pills that had been missed. As the others ran down the hall, they saw Freeburg just standing there, waiting for Jason. Hailey re-joined them just in time to see Jason cut Freeburg in half.
"No!" she screamed and aimed the gun at Jason. The bullet seemed to travel slowly and it hit Jason in the chest. But that wasn't what brought him down.
The pink tranquilizers. While Will grabbed something to get Jason into the van, Lori helped a sobbing Hailey to the drug cabinets. Kia followed and the two older girls grabbed as much as they could. They had to lay low during the early morning hours. They planned to start driving in the late morning, so they could blend in.
"Can you walk?" Lori asked Hailey, who was on the floor hugging her knees and crying.
"Yeah," she nodded and stood up. She stuffed a few more bottles in her pockets. She was covered in blood, none of it hers. "I'll be okay."
During most of the drive, Hailey was curled up under a blanket, next to the spare tire. She didn't speak or really move. The shock had made her catatonic. When Lori went down for her nap, Hailey seemed to snap out of it. She took one of the vials she had kept for herself and asked Linderman for the needle.
"She shouldn't go in alone," she said as she positoned the needle at her vein.
"You could die," Kia said.
"Death is the next great adventure," Hailey replied and injected herself.
*They were on a dirt path. Hailey was a bit behind Lori, caught up in the past. She kind of recognized this place. She closed her eyes. The sign, the cars were imprinted in her memory. Lori went to try and alert the consuelers, Hailey went to watch the children. The boy at the head of the mob looked familiar. She chased after them, yelling for them to stop.
"Stop! Please!" she screamed. One of the boys grabbed the young Jason by the collar and then released him, pushing him into the lake. Hailey screamed, knowing what they had started. "You little fucks!" she wailed and grabbed the boy. She spun him around and gasped. His eyes were dark blue, with flecks of gold. She knew those eyes. Those were her eyes
