Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Just as Jack Sparrow and Commodore Norrington were about to step foot into the first boat off the ship, they saw the Black
Pearl coming out, joyful cheering heard clearly across the ocean waters.

Jack turned back to Elizabeth, knowing the curse had been lifted. The young woman’s face flashed panic and then
devastation, but quickly set into the determined face Jack had come to fear.

But before either could do anything, Norrington had shouted orders to attack the Black Pearl. The crew of the Dauntless
set out after the unsuspecting partying pirates, but all Elizabeth could think about was Will.

“He’s dead, lass,” Jack insisted solemnly, sadness showing clearly in both his tone and facial expression.

“I will not believe that until I have looked at his body with my own eyes,” Elizabeth swore, her voice quavering slightly.
She looked around at the others on the ship. They were all so busy preparing for the coming ambush that Elizabeth got an
idea.

“Come with me to the caves,” she demanded of the pirate. “They won’t notice us slipping away. Besides, in a few minutes,
both of these ships will be engaged in battle, and either this ship or the Pearl will be destroyed.”

Jack gave it a moment’s thought. Neither option boded well for him. Moreover, although he would not admit it even to
himself, he was worried about Will and wanted to know for sure if the young Turner was truly dead.

Elizabeth was right—no one noticed the two slipping into a boat just moments before the Dauntless took the Black Pearl by
surprise.

Elizabeth ran as fast as her legs could carry her into the caves, praying that by some miracle of God she would not find
Will dead.

As she entered, the color of gold filled the room but near the chest of coins that had started the entire ordeal lay the
unmistakable form of Will, prone and unmoving.

Shrieking his name as she dashed to him, Elizabeth’s eyes welled with tears. “Oh please don’t be dead,” she pleaded to
him as she knelt down by him. She breathed a sigh of relief to see his breathing and to find a heartbeat.

Jack was slower in coming to Will’s side, his eyes wide as he took in Will’s shredded shirt, the thin, long cut down
Will’s back that was still bleeding, and the blood seeping through the legs of his pants. The captain shook his head sadly,
knowing exactly what had been done to Will and by whom.

“He’s hurt,” Elizabeth announced in a panic as Jack knelt down by Will.

“More grievously than you know,” Jack replied solemnly, gaping at the large, ugly bruises starting to form on Will’s left
side.

“We’ll have to wait until the fighting stops,” Elizabeth went on. “And hope that Barbossa’s men come out the losers.”

”No. You stay here with Will. I’m going to fight. Barbossa must pay.”

“Is that all you can think about?” the young woman snapped. “His mutiny over you ten years ago? Now is not the time for
this revenge of yours!”

“Look at your dear William, lass,” Jack instructed more harshly than he meant to. Elizabeth looked down to Will. “Do
you not know what’s happened to him? What Barbossa did to him after the curse was lifted?”

“Oh God…” Elizabeth looked sick. The captain nodded. Elizabeth’s face contorted with anger. “He cannot get away with
this—,”

“He will not,” Jack replied. “I will see to it, milady. Men like him deserve death.” A faraway look in Jack’s eyes
caught Elizabeth off-guard but soon it was gone and Jack was rushing off to kill his former first mate.

With tears rolling down her cheeks, Elizabeth gently rolled Will over onto bac back and into her arms. “You had better
not die on me William Turner,” she scolded him. She was answered with silence.

As Jack climbed aboard the Black Pearl, he hoped Barbossa wasn’t dead so that he could kill the older captain himself.
The fight ahead of him had been building for the last ten years, and only one of the two captains was going to come out
alive.

Many of Commodore Norrington’s men were already on board. The British navy had succeeded in the element of surprise,
Jack could see. Many of Barbossa’s crew were too drunk to fight, so that only aided the British navy as well in a victory.

Immediatelyown own into the fight, Jack found himself fighting through members of a crew that used to be his. He felt a
sort of grim satisfaction that they were finally getting what they deserved as he slayed one and then another.

Finally arriving at the captain’s quarters, Jack could see that Barbossa already had his hands full with two Brits.
Quickly pulling his gun, Jack had to take a minute to be sure of his aim so he wouldn’t miss and kill one of the soldiers
instead of Barbossa.

After ten years of carrying that pistol with the one shot, Jack finally pulled the trigger right as Barbossa was about
to strike on of the Brits fatally with his sword.

The bullet tore out of the gun, flying towards Captain Barbossa, who until the moment the gun had gone off had not noticed
Jack’s presence. Jack’s mind flew back ten years, to the night Barbossa as first mate had called a mutiny over Captain
Sparrow.

The island the crew had marooned Jack on was merely a dot on the horizon when the mutiny was declared. They had thrown
Jack into the brig below deck until they got close enough to the island to throw Jack overboard.

Jack had brooded in his cell for hours, wondering why they hadn’t just killed him and how he was going to get out of this
mess.wn wwn was just brea whe when the new captain came down to him, announcing that Jack’s departure was to be soon.

Barbossa had then entered Jack’s cell and cornered the much younger man in the corner with his sword. The captain had
murmured something about desires, Bootstrap Bill, and next-best thing before proceeding to have his way with a very unwilling
Jack.

Jack was brought back to the present as the bullet he had fired struck Barbossa in the chest, causing him to stumble
backwards a few steps, looking shocked, and falling to the ground. The two British soldiers looked at Jack in awe,
completely shocked that they now owed their lives to a pirate. And now the fight, for the most part, was won.

Jack kept his gaze on Barbossa until he could no longer stand to look at the dead man. After ten long years Jack had
finally used his shot and killed Captain Barbossa. And while he was more than happy to have finally done the deed, things
did not seem as well as he had thought they would have.
