Chapter 20
They followed the small man to a building that was close to the hangers. He entered into a hallway and pointed to the door at the end of the hall. “Your father is in there waiting for you. He asked to speak with you before the Council met with you.”
The man turned and walked out and Alexis and Riddick started to the door. About half way Alexis grabbed Riddick’s hand. He felt warm inside at the thought that Alexis would want to hold his hand like this as they entered the room. She not only loved him, she needed him.
Alexis opened the door and walked in with Riddick right behind her. The lights were off, which didn’t really cause a problem for them, they both could see fine in the dark. But Alexis thought it strange since her father had normal vision and was supposed to be waiting.
“Lights on,” came a voice from the corner. Alexis and Riddick both tensed at the voice, but then were overcome with confusion when the light barely lit the room. It was a beautiful room, an apartment they both realized. The furniture was gorgeous, and it was huge. Alexis assumed they were in one of the Councils Meeting Rooms, but she assumed this must be a residence of one of theirs.
“Hello Alexis.”
“Father” Alexis said as Mr. Talon rounded a table and made his way toward her and Riddick. Riddick just stood behind Alexis, there for her is she needed him but willing to let Alexis take control for right now.
“Hello my dear. I have been so eager to see you.” He looked Alexis up and down with a large smile on his face. Then he turned to Riddick, the smile not wavering.
“This must be Mr. Riddick. It is a pleasure to meet you, I am Mr. Talon of the High Council, and also Alexis’s father, although not many people know that.” Mr. Talon extended his hand.
Riddick looked at Alexis quickly before looking at her father and shaking his hand.
“Nice to meet you as well.” Riddick said without emotion.
“Well,” Mr. Talon began. ”What do you have to tell me, what is going on? The Council will be here shortly so I need to know what I must be confronting them with.”
Alexis and Riddick looked at each other and as Alexis opened her mouth to speak Riddick interrupted.
“I am here because I love your daughter and we are engaged to be married.” Riddick said the sentence so fast and with such force and determination that both Alexis and her Father were taken aback.
Alexis stared up at Riddick not sure why he would just blurt it out like that, but happy he was so in tune with what they were planning.
Mr. Talon just stared at Riddick intently for several long seconds waiting to see any sign of wavering or apprehension. When he saw nothing but pure determination he smiled and then let out a loud and enthused laugh. Riddick tensed at this reaction, not planning on it as did Alexis.
“Of course you are. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Mr. Talon managed to saw between catching his breath from the laugh.
Riddick and Alexis looked at each other bewildered and then looked at Mr. Talon.
He looked at them both and then decided it would be best to explain.
“You see my dear, you were sent to SLAM for more than one purpose. The child was the main focus for our group, but we knew the forces at work would not let you allow him to stay there. I knew you would do everything in your power to bring Mr. Riddick back with you. I have known for a long time, and I informed the Council of this shortly after you left here.”
Alexis still confused looked at her father harder. “How? How would you know? And why not tell me.”
Mr. Talon took her hand in his trying to comfort her.
“When I was with your mother, it wasn’t only me and her involved there. There was this unseen force. Something that I can’t explain really, but the feelings it triggered and caused were undeniable. We loved each other very much. After she found out she was pregnant she started a journal. I found a page in it a few years back and that is what started all this.”
He reached into his pocket and handed the paper to her.
“Read this, then you will know.” He turned and walked to the door, then looked back at them.
“You are welcome to get cleaned up before we see the Council. Everyone is so eager to see you and meet Mr. Riddick. This is your apartment, I hope you like it. If there is anything you wish to change feel free. The lights are programmed to be no brighter than 20 percent at all times, to make it more comfortable for Mr. Riddick and have him not have to worry about anyone accidentally having lights on full blast. I will see you both down on the main floor in the conference room in 1 hour.”
He smiled at Alexis’s and Riddick’s surprised faces and added before leaving. “Consider it an early wedding present.”
Alexis and Riddick watched him shut the door. Riddick looked at the paper and her hand.
“What’s it say?” He asked.
Alexis looked at the note and then opened it slowly, her hands shaking. She looked at it in puzzlement and then read it out loud.
Today I found out that I am having a baby girl. I am so exited and scared at the same time. I hope it all goes well. I think I want to name her Alexis, but I will have to see what her father thinks of that. I can’t help but feel there is something special about this child. I have never had a child before but she seems somehow different than I would have thought. I am never sick, never tired, if anything I have more energy now.
I had a dream last night that my little Alexis was all grown up and getting married. The man was a mystery to me with a dark shadow lingering next to him. But his presence seems hopeful and positive. He was tall, with golden skin and a shaved head. When he turned to me he smiled and his eyes shone silver in the darkness of the setting sun. I have no doubts this is whom my little one will someday marry. I only hope that fate gives them that chance to meet just once as I with her father. That is all it will take for there love to grow and the force within them to overflow into each other. I hope with all my heart she and him know each others love. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
