Chapter 21 - Abandon Ship

Jack climbed the steps to the helm and bellowed at the crew for their

attention. "All hands on deck! Free the prisoners and abandon ship!

All departed spirits abandon as well! Bring all your belongings, kit

an' k'boodle and valuables! Take everything aboard yon metal monster.

Once there, stay there and touch nothing that you don't understand!

On second thought, belay tha' last order---touch nuthin!"

Some of the crew disbursed by habit; most, however, gathered on the

main deck and grumbled. Anamaria stood below Jack, hands on

hips. "And just why should we listen to you, Jack Sparrow? These days

you're naught but a cabin boy and part time helmsman."

"Ana, yon monster over there is a treasure the likes of which you

have never seen. Since the lack of treasure is the REASON I'm a cabin

boy in the first place, then you either follow my orders again, or at

least go over on your own accord. In any event, this ship shall not

be leaving the dragon's realm. Any who wish to stay shall remain here

forever. William is still the captain, but 't was his decision to

move everyone to the Nautilus. Personally, William and I are leaving;

I care naught for any who would stay." He grasped the wheel. "Now, if

it pleases you, would ye mind to help move the Pearl a bit closer so

that we can all board without the boats?"

This time, all the crew disbursed, manning the capstern and cables to

move the Pearl closer to the great submarine. Once the lines were

secured and a plank run out between the two ships, Jack strode across

to the giant, bug-eyed monster and located a hatch cover. After a few

moments of judicious tampering, aided by his extensive skill and

knowledge of the inner workings of most locks and bolt mechanisms, he

figured out how to work the latch, opened it wide and motioned to the

crew to start moving everything.

The former captain of the Black Pearl made his way aft to the stern

of the sub, where he thought the main cabin would be, but found,

instead, a vast room consisting of several levels filled with

complicated machinery he couldn't fathom. He quickly closed the

hatch, sealing it behind him as directed by the instructions painted

on both sides of the hatch and went up' for'd to the bow of the

Nautilus.

After nearly an hour of searching and exploring, Will and his father

strode up to Jack, both grinning. Will kissed Jack's hand and started

pulling him toward a companionway. "I found our cabin. I can't wait

to see your face! Come on!" He half led, half dragged Jack to a

strange metal door with no handle adjacent to the steps and pushed a

stud on the wall. The door slid sideways, opening of its own accord,

and Will led Jack inside, Bill bringing up the rear.

It wasn't large by Jack's standards; his cabin on the Pearl was

larger by far. "You must be jokin'! This cabin hasn't got enough room

to swing a cat, let alone room for furniture and can't be bigger than

ten feet square. On a ship this big-"

Will laughed. "Jack, this isn't our cabin. This is a mechanical lift,

just a way of moving between decks." He pushed another stud. The door

slid closed and Jack grabbed hold of Will for dear life as the room

moved downward.

"William, how did you figure out this room? And how'd ye find our

cabin?"

"Shamir told me."

"Eh, what? Who is this 'Shamir'?"

Will shrugged. "That's what the dragon called himself. He told me a

lot about the Nautilus, including where the instructions are. Jack,

we don't have to make landfall for supplies...EVER! You just won't

believe what this ship can do!" The room stopped its downward motion

and the door opened.

Will led a totally stunned Jack toward the bow of the ship and when

they reach the f'oc'sl, stopped at a very ornate, land-style door,

which he opened, surprisingly, by sliding it sideways into the

bulkhead, his hand sweeping to show off the cabin to his lover.

The room must have been fully half the size of the entire Pearl, with

four doors leading off to what Jack assumed were other cabins. The

furnishings were quite ornate; including two large organs, a davenport
and various

chairs the styles of which were utterly foreign to Jack. "Love, this

is magnificent, but where's the bunk, and where's the table?"

Will chuckled. "Captain's bunk through that door." He pointed at the

far larboard door. "First Mate's cabin is through THAT door." The far

starboard door was indicated. "There's a head in each of the rooms,

Jack...complete with running water, both hot and cold. The privies

even empty themselves! THAT door leads to the chart room, which has all

the instructions to running the ship." He pointed to the larboard

door closest to them.

"And finally, your precious table is over there, which I would say is

the Great Cabin, though Shamir called it a 'ready room'." He pointed

at the final door to starboard. He walked straight in and pushed a

stud on the far bulkhead. What Jack had surmised to be a large

deadlight of sorts irised open to display a bubble-shaped porthole

that looked out on the sea floor.

Jack's mouth dropped open wide as his eyes.

He allowed Bill to lead him inside and slide the door closed. Bill

grinned at his son's excitement. Will grabbed Jack, dragging him into

the head in the captain's cabin and showed him the huge, sunken tub.

Jack wasn't impressed. "So? That thing would take hours t' fill. And

if you want a hot bath, you'd best forget about it; the water would

be cold long afore the tub's filled."

Will twisted two knobs and jets of water started spraying into the

tub from eight positions around the tub. Jack's eyes widened even

more as the steamy water quickly filled the tub. Will turned off the

water, looking his lover over and wrinkling his nose, audibly

sniffing. "You could use a bath, Jack. My father and I will bring

over everything from our cabin on the Pearl." Bill saluted and

grinned, and the two Turners left Jack alone, dumbstruck, gob-smacked

and still in awe over the strange room.

Will entered the giant cabin and immediately dropped what he was

carrying, dashing across to the Captain's cabin and inside, stopping

outside the door to the head, alarmed by the horrific, thunderous

sounds issuing from behind the closed door. To his blacksmith's ears

it could be nothing less than the thick iron plating of the hull being
breached, the heavy metal screeching and moaning, shrieking like a dying thing as
it twisted and ruptured.
