Chapter 20 – Advantage or Love?
The ropes chafed against her wrists as the sailor pulled them tighter to ensure she couldn’t escape. Oria watched silently over her shoulder as Beckett stepped forward with a small dagger and sliced up the back of her shirt till it hung loosely from the collar. “Unlike your Captain I will not tolerate insubordination from you and there will be consequences to your misbehaviour. Only five lashes this time, I think.” He whispered into her ear before stepping away and nodding to the man. The leather strips of the whip quivered before they flew through the air and snapped hungrily at her back.

Jack sulkily watched the rum swirl in the bottom of the bottle. He was drunk once more on the sweet nectar of rum. Rum truly was his dearest friend. It could not and would not ever try to escape him. It would always be there to console him when things went wrong or strange or more often than not both wrong and strange. It didn’t answer back and the only complications it brought were the pounding headaches but even they could be solved with the beautiful liquid. His finger trailed down the side of the bottle lovingly, a wistful smile on his face.
No, there was one thing, just the one, that rum could not solve. It drove him more insane and more desirous than any amount of rum or longing for the sweet liquid could. Oria. The one and only thing rum could not solve. No matter how much he drank she was still there in his mind. It didn’t matter where he went or who he was with, she was there. Only disappearing when the real Oria was there in front of him, only then was the longing sated. No, rum would ever solve that.
:/
Oria stumbled backwards into the room, the bulky man showing no gentleness as he flung her carelessly through the doorway. Her heel caught on something and she fell onto her back with a hiss of pain as the planks smacked against the tender flesh. Quickly, she stumbled back upright to spare her tortured skin any more punishment. Turning to face the wall she folded her arms against it and placed her forehead on the smooth skin of her forearms. Gradually she stretched the tender flesh of her back, seeking out some angle that would provide relief no matter how small.
“I told you that you would be punished.” Monifa whispered from her corner. Her eyes trailed over the flushed skin. The streaks where the leather had landed were already blossoming into five vicious bruises. Oria glared at her from under her arm.
“Well that’s incredibly comforting now. Thanks for sharing.” Oria sniped cruelly, each word stinging as she took breath. The woman turned away and resumed clearing up some of the mess leaving the pirate to contemplate her options for escape and now relief. Well Beckett had been right, at least now she definitely had something to think about.

Tortuga bustled in front of him, promising all sorts of delights both liquid and flesh. All pleasurable no matter which was chosen or in most cases both. Few men left the town without a broad smile and empty coin purse. Jack however would be leaving it with a deep scowl and empty coin purse as the ship wright, joiner and other craftsmen surveyed the bedraggled Pearl and handed him page after page of calculated costs. Each time, Jack knew he would go for the most expensive because nothing was too good for his Pearl.
He handed the final orders over to a page boy who scurried quickly away to pass on the instructions to his Master. Jack glanced about his cabin and gave a weary sigh before deciding he would get no respite sitting in the small wooden enclosure. The walls were closing in about him, mocking just how alone he was. Dragging his coat about his shoulders the pirate left the cabin and was in the process of locking the door when a heavy hand landed on his shoulder.
“Did you take advantage of her? Do you love her?” Jack’s eyes slid closed as Will’s furious voice rolled through the quiet breeze to assail his ears. The grip on his shoulder tightened and Jack found himself spun around to face the lad. The key still stuck in the lock now finding a home in the small of his back.
“No on both accounts. Your little lassie took advantage of me, so to speak.” Jack shouted in pain and surprise as Will’s fist collided with his nose. Rubbing it gingerly the pirate glared at the younger man.
“You honestly expect me to believe that Elizabeth took advantage of you? I should have hit you harder if you expected me to believe that.” Will accused and raised his fist again. Jack watched it suspiciously to make sure it didn’t make its way back into his nose before speaking again.
“No, I didn’t expect you to believe it. Just the truth. It’s up to you if you heed me or not. Either way, I know the truth and that’s all I care about. Well, and the fact that Oria also knows the truth… obviously. Personally, I think any punishment she has for me will be far more painful and creative than anything you can come up with.” Will slowly lowered his fist and released the pirates shoulder after a moment’s contemplation.
“So Elizabeth…”
“Kissed me? Aye, that she did lad. But I swear to you that I did not lay a finger on her or ask for it. Entirely her choice and direction. I was merely an innocent bystander.” Jack exclaimed vehemently not really caring if the boy believed him or not. His eyes preoccupied with the lad’s fist. It was clenched at Wills side and Jack had the sneaking suspicion that if his eyes left it then his nose would suffer for it.
“Innocent? Not exactly the word I would have chosen.” Will quipped. Jack glared at him unsure if he should be amused or not.
“Wanna join me for a drink lad?” Jack queried as he brushed him off and strode off down the plank to the pier. Will only a few steps behind. “I’ll be buying. Well, when I say I, I mean I’ll be telling stories and the drunkards’ll be paying for the drink to keep me throat moist and the stories coming.” Jack grinned enthusiastically. “Perhaps you could even join in!”
Will paused and glanced back at the ship. “What about Elizabeth? Should we just leave her alone on the ship?” Jack stumbled to a halt and strode back to the lad.
“Look if you want to go off with your little wench it’s no hassle on my account. More drinks for me.” The pirate turned and swayed away. He smiled knowingly when Will jogged to catch up with him.
“Free drinks?”
