Chapter 21

Chapter 21/32

THE TRUTH ABOUT ANGELUS

Kelly was checking on everyone’s injuries that Angelus had inflicted. Cordy had a nasty reddish bruise on her ankles and wrists.

“That demented freak,” Fred said angrily.

“I wonder what the hell made Angel revert back to Angelus?” Wes asked.

The group began to ponder on the question.

“Damn, I should’ve known something was wrong after all, he’s my man,” Cordy said.

They all told her that it wasn’t her fault and that they were all fooled.

“Hmm, was Angel ever left alone since we’ve been here?” Riddick asked.

“No, he was always…” Fred stopped her train of thought. “Wait a minute, when we finally reached Shine’s crib, there was this big a$$ silver statue of him. Angel walked towards it and caressed it with his fingers,” Fred recalled.

“You’re right Fred and then he walked back to us and told us what that damn plaque said,” Wes continued.

“Okay, are y’all thinking that the statue is what made Angel revert back to Angelus?” Kelly asked with confusion.

“What other explanation is there, that was the only time he strayed from the group,” Riddick concluded.

“Alright, so the next question is why did the statue change him?” Cordy asked.

“Wes baby, do you remember reading anything about the “Evils of The Shinning?” By the way, did you discover how we would return back home? Maybe that will help us figure this thing out,” Kelly said in one breath.

Wes pulled out a torn piece of paper from his pocket.

“Yes, I actually managed to tear that bit of info out of the book, before we performed the ritual,” Wes confessed.

He unfolded the paper and began to read it. “To return from where you came, you must destroy the source of evil.”

“One would think the “Source of Evil” is Shine. But now that we suspect the statue reverted Angel…maybe the statue is the “Source of Evil,” Gunn said.

SHINE IN HIS SHRINE

Shine was fiddling with an exquisite piece of glowing crystal. Ironically, it was emitting the same slivery shine from outside.

“I can’t believe that I found you 22 years ago and what a great day that was. We were on a mission to find any sunken treasure and I did! That day I morphed from Dan Vaughn to Master Shine. We barely escaped the wrath of those hideous creatures but we did. An asteroid hit our ship and we crash-landed here to The Shinning. I used my powers to build my shrine and no one, not even the “chosen one” will take it away from me,” Shine said with vengeance.

FINDING RIDDICK

Imam called Aidan, the guy that worked at the shiport. Imam asked him if he could fax over all the arrivals from all the LA shiports from the past three days. Aidan said that he would and he’d be very discrete about it. Within two minutes, the list was faxed. Keith got up to get the paper and quickly brought it back for them to read. The first two listed were “The Fairfax Shiport,” “The Marriott Shiport,” and then the last one caught Imam’s eyes. It was called “Triage 3.” Imam had a flashback of when Johns and Riddick were having a Pow-Wow. The rest of the crew followed behind them. He remembered hearing Johns mouth the words “triage.”

“That’s odd, all the rest of them indicate that they are shiports but not this one,” Imam said suspiciously.

He had a gut feeling that they had hit the Jackpot on that one. They all agreed to check there first.

Keith grabbed the keys to the PanTher and they bounced. The light stopped them at the corner of the “Sweet Spot.” Imam noticed someone gesturing for them to come across the street.

“Probably just some loser lookin’ for a sucker,” Keith stated.

“Hmm, I don’t think so brother. Why don’t you go and see what the young man wants,” Imam countered.

The light changed and Keith entered the intersection and drove right beside Slater.

Keith rolled down the window. “Aight, you were tryna get at a brotha from across the way. So what’s up man?” he asked.

Slater introduced himself and told them that he knew that they were looking for their friend.

“My friend Beth can help you,” he concluded.

The look of hope washed upon their faces.
