Chapter 22
If Sarah had ever seen anything beautiful in her life, it was shrouded greatly by the radiance of the castle standing in front of her eyes. She stared in awe as the sunlight bounced and refracted in all different directions off the enormous building. She covered her forehead as she looked up to the top of the tallest tower. The tops of the towers curled and twisted into almost lethal looking points. The pearl color, when you turned the right way, have off a pinkish color, accompanied by an array of purples and blues. The doors were not guarded by men nor beasts. They lay quiet by themselves in the sun, nor guns or weapons found in sight. The tress stopped growing around the castle in every direction of the castle about a mile out. The land was filled with flowers of every kind and even though it was evident he was in a hurry, Jareth bent down and picked a white lily. He turned to Sarah and bowed, offering the beautiful flower. Sarah blushed a little and took it, along with the kiss he left on her cheek. He grabbed her hand and lead her towards the gate.
Sarah followed him, the lily clenched in one and, Jareth’s hand in the other. He came to the gates and Sarah waited beside him for some notification that something was beyond the glossy walls. Sarah looked around Jareth and saw no sign of anyone knowing they were there. She looked at Jareth and found him waiting patiently, or as patiently as he could manage. The sun still bounced off the walls and the flowers still smelled sweet. Sarah began to wonder just what they were waiting for, when unexpectedly, the ground beneath them moved.
Sarah looked down to see not the ground, but a winged animal stretching it’s wings. She immediately panicked and flailed her arms to try and get away as it pulled up off the solid ground she was so accustomed to. She let go of Jareth and as she slid down the side of the animal, she noticed that she was a lot farther from her oh so wonderful ground than she expected. But, before her face was introduced into it, another animal was under her, bringing her beside the one Jareth stood do regally on.
“Are you ok Sarah?” Jareth could barely hold back his laugh as Sarah sat stunned on the animals back, trying to grasp the little hold on reality she had.
Sarah looked up, no laughter on her face, but a lot of red, and almost screamed, “This is not funny. What the hell are these things?”
“Transports.” Jareth said as his animal flew towards Sarah’s and he jumped all to easily from one to the other. Helping her up just in time to see the outer walk pass beneath them, she gasped as the sight came into view. This indeed was no castle, quiet the opposite, but the outside wall was just that, a wall.
Inside the wall was a oval shaped ring and in the center sat five people. As the animal landed, Jareth jumped to the ground and helped the blew away Sarah off it. She stared at the flat side of the wall reflected nothing of the outside. In here, nothing seemed cheery and magical as it did on the outside, no oblivious colors bounced and as soon as she turned to talk to Jareth, she noticed he had walked in the direction of the five in the center. She noticed there was no other people in the room, save the six others besides herself. Chills ran up her spine as she walked behind Jareth.
“Come no further, wench. Your business is not with us.” The man in the middle stated and raised a hand.
“What did you just call me?” Sarah not only back talked to the high majesty, she disobeyed an order and walked in front of Jareth.
“Do you not know your place, woman?” The man to the left of him spoke.
“Do you not know manners?”
Jareth took Sarah’s hand and pulled her down to her knees in front of the court. As he bowed his head he shot her a look that told her she just fucked things up even more.
“Rise, Jareth, and please explain to us why your woman knows not when to hold her tongue?”
Jareth pushed slightly on Sarah’s hand, letting her know to stay where she was. He stepped forward and spoke clear, his voice ringing in Sarah’s ears.
“Forgive her, she knows not the way of the Underground, nor the ways of the court.”
“She is from Aboveground?” The only woman on the court spoke, her voice filled with a cold sense of anguish.
“Yes. But, what of the reason you brought me? What have I don’t to anger you, M’lords?”
“Anger us? You have done no such thing. We are inquiring about your mother. Her spirit is weak, if not gone. Where is she?” The woman asked.
“Dead, by the hands of the bastard who killed my father.”
All of the members seemed to quit breathing. The youngest looking man spoke first and slowly. “Where is he now?”
“Dead hopefully.” Sarah spoke as she got to her feet.
The five looked at her and a smile spread across the face of the oldest and middle man. “A young suitor I see Jareth. She is very well off I see. A beauty none the less.”
Sarah blushed a little as she accepted the compliment with a nod and a bow. “Sorry about the rudeness earlier, I promise to work on that.”
“All in time, my young one.” He smiled and then he turned his attention to Jareth. “As for the matter at hand. Things must be taken care of. I see he got to your beauty there too.”
Sarah instantly rubbed her side where the ink would never come out.
“He must be found and prosecuted.” The woman spoke again.
“No, I will handle things in my own way.” Jareth looked at Sarah and smiled a little. “This is a family matter, and our family will deal with it.”
“Things of this nature should not be dealt with lightly, Jareth.” the younger man spoke again.
“I am aware of this.”
“As am I,” Sarah stated, looking into Jareth’s eyes, the love she found there made her heart flutter and melted away any doubts in the world she had, “I am prepared to take whatever beasts may come or whatever pain that may need to be taken.”
“You love this man that much?” the woman spoke out.
Sarah turned and looked Jareth deep in his eyes. His cheeks tinged pink and he smiled a little. That was a stupid question. She loved him more than anything she thought she ever had that feeling for. She held him so close to her heart, she wash sure that they were beating in unison. She saw the love in his eyes flourish and blushed a little herself.
“I love him more than I could explain.”
The court members looked at each other and in unison nodded. “Let it be known then,” out of the air a feather began to write on invisible paper in a silver luminous writing, “the matter at hand will be handled by the family. This court will not interfere with anything that comes from this, nor will it help either side in anyway.”
Jareth bowed and Sarah followed his suit.
“Take care, young prince of the Underground and King of the Goblins. Your maiden is fare and may your children be in that graven image.”
Jareth took Sarah’s hand and kissed it. “Blessed be.”

Toby smiled as the sun began to set in the Underground. He sat in his room, staring out a window, his big bed abandoned and messy. He sighed as the warm wind rustled his hair. Everything was going great and nothing could be any better. He walked to the bathroom and washed his face getting ready for some much needed sleep. Things in life shouldn’t have been this hard for an eleven year old. Some people lead perfect lives while others suffered major losses.
“It’s not fair.” Toby whined softly as he got into bed, the purple light bouncing around his room from the sunset.
“No it’s not.”
Toby jumped as Crystal’s voice disturbed his thoughts.
“Crystal, geeze oh peets, you scared me.”
She walked darkly over across the room and stood in the corner adjacent from Toby. She smiled madly and Toby’s eyes flashed with fear.
“Good, you should be afraid. Very afraid.”
