Chapter 23

Chapter 23/32

MYSTERY SOLVED

The foursome in the Panther was twisted up with conflicting emotions. First, they were skeptical of Slater, who “eavesdropped” on a very private conversation. Secondly, they were hopeful that the “eavesdropper” could actually help lead them to Riddick.

“Should we really trust this kat?” Darla asked looking at Keith.

“With all praises to Allah, I believe that we should indeed trust this man,” Imam said with conviction.

David agreed and everyone turned to Keith for his answer.

“It seems the decision has already been made…let’s bounce. Aight dawg, we’re game but this better not be a trifling a$$ set up; you feel me?” Keith asked sounding like his inner thug.

Slater eyed the milky-chocolate-toned brother from head to toe. He stood at least 6’7.”

“Yo man, I’m being straight up but I do need to give y’all a heads up on Beth. She’s a…um vampire,” Slater informed nervously.

“A what? Oh hell to the motha freakin’ no!” Darla defiantly protested.

“What the hell…you are screwing with us aren’t you?” Keith accused feeling a beat down coming on.

David quickly stepped in between the two opposing men.

“Okay, Slater, is it? What’s really going on here?” David asked sternly.

Darla tried to calm down Keith as Imam watched on.

“I understand the hostility and uncertainty here. Yes, Beth is a real life vampire. She doesn’t feed on humans anymore so fear not!! She was blessed with a soul years ago and she now fights the “Evils Of Los Angeles.” You can trust her; she saved my life four years ago from the “Big Bads.” I’m 100% human with a heightened sense of hearing. That’s why I was able to hear y’all the other day. I’m sorry I intruded on your conversation but I knew that I could help you. And I immediately told Beth would I found out,” Slater informed.

“Hmm, you actually sound truthful and sincere. Aight let’s meet this “Beth” and get this over with. I guaren-freaking-tee you that if you’re playing us…..it’s ya a$$,” Keith threatened.

Slater just nodded and began their destination to Beth’s place. Slater led them through the darkened underground path. The foursome introduced themselves to Slater during their journey. Once they reached their destination, Slater knocked on Beth’s door,

“Yo B, we’re here,” Slater informed.

She quickly opened the door and gestured for them to come in. Slater walked in and then Keith. After entering, Keith eyed Beth from head to toe. He wasn’t going to let his guard down so easily by a purrty face.

“Hello, I’m Beth. It’s nice to finally meet y’all. Please make yourselves comfortable; there’s plenty of room here. I’m purrty sure that Slater has told you what I am. That’s why this young man over here is giving me that all too familiar look. It’s ok, I’m used to it by now,” Beth said.

“Excuse me B, can I use your phone?” Slater asked. Beth told him that it was okay. Then, he excused himself and walked towards the back room.

Beth looked at her houseguests.

“I understand that y’all are looking for your friend, “Cari,” who arrived in L.A. a few days ago. Well, you’re in luck. I saw everything that happened to him that night,” she said.

Everyone looked at Imam and he gave them a knowing look. So, Mr. Riddick has changed his name to “Cari” now…how interesting, Imam thought.

“I was reading a book when I heard loud noises. It was coming from the backroom so I checked it out. It was coming straight from the vent so I flipped it open. I saw “Cari” and two hooded figures. He had just ghosted one and the other ran away. He was holding this knife that he used so skillfully just moments before.

Next, my friends Gunn and Fred showed up out of the blue. They work for Angel, another Vampire…with a soul. He runs Angel Investigations at a hotel nearby. They fight “The Big Bads.”

Anyway, Gunn offered him a place to stay and he accepted. This man, Cari, really intrigued me. I was so impressed on how he handled himself so I followed them. I found a nice comfy place underground. I could see inside the first floor through the vents there. I got there too late, and your friend had already gone upstairs to his room.

The next day, all hell had broken loose. “Cari” was going to ghost Angel for not telling him what he was from jump. Fortunately for Angel, that was interrupted by Cordy. She is Angel’s girl and a seer. Meaning, she receives messages of people in trouble from The Powers That Be. They’re a force for good and order in the universe.

The vision showed a young woman named, Jack. Apparently…,” she was suddenly cut off.

“Oh My God, Did You Say Jack?” Darla asked in shock.

Beth nodded and said, “Yes, what’s the matter?”

Imam began to weep and said, “She’s my daughter.”

Darla began to explain the truth about Jack. Afterwards, Beth had a better understanding of the situation at hand. She realized that this tale has become more complicated. While Darla and David consoled Imam, Keith motioned for Beth to continue.

“It seems she has been sent to a mystical dimension called, “The Shinning.” They discovered that the only way to get there was through a ritual. This ritual would open a vortex up and send them there. A vortex is a portal that transports through various dimensions.

All of them pitched in to set things up. The ritual was interrupted by an intruder, DEV and her flunkies!! She is an ex-friend of mine but that’s another story. Anyway, team Angel ghosted all of her flunkies leaving Dev all alone. By this time, the vortex had opened fully and they all jumped in. Dev hesitated at first but jumped in right before it closed.

“So, in order to find them we must perform the ritual. This would re-open the vortex again,” Beth said.

The foursome looked at each other in total disbelief. They never expected anything like this at all. They eyed Keith again, waiting on his response.

“Aight, all of this stuff is just insane. It’s very hard to digest. From Vampires to vortexes. This is wild! But hey, if that’s what we gotta do to get them back then shall be it.” Keith said.

“Alright then, let me go get Slater,” Beth said as she walked out of the room. As she entered the back room, she called for him.

“Yes, I’m here. I’m just finishing up. Hey, are you okay?” he asked her.

“I’m so scared Slay. I don’t know if this ritual and vortex thing will work again. And if so, we have NO clue about what’s gonna happen once we get there. And I’m surely not ready to see Dev again. She’s completely wacked!” she said.

“I know sweetie, that’s why I called for backup,” he said.

“Slay, who the hell did you call?” she asked.

“Don’t worry about B. It’s a surprise anyway. C’mon and let’s go if this thing is happening today,” Slater said as he led her out of the room.

MAJACKILY DELICIOUS

Jack was chilling in her room eating. Thoughts of her conversation with Shine kept flashing in her mind. “He has to know about my powers…damn it!! That’s what he was fishing for…the prick. So, why didn’t he just ask me about it? Dude is mos def wacked and he’s up to something huge. Whatever it is, I just hope Riddick gets her in time,” she said out loud.

DEV’S ANGEL

They had been walking through da woods for some time now. Shine’s statue was the first thing that they saw. It was far away now, but soon their journey would end.

“You gotta plan, Angelus?” Dev asked smugly.

“No. Once I “come up” with one, I’ll be sure to share it with you,” he answered back.

TEAM RIDDICK

The team had been busy devising a plan in the shack. This plan would: Restrain Angelus until they could change him back to Angel, Annihilate shine and his shrine, and lastly but not least…Get Jack Back!

“So let The Ghostination…Begin!! Riddick announced as he led the way back to his Jack.
