Pain and sorrow

“Tell him I’m waiting.”

Silence, peaceful. In the silence the sound of someone breathing.

Kylie opened her eyes to a near dark room. She was in pain, but she could breathe. Slowly she looked around.

She was in her ship. She wasn’t wearing anything, though there was a bandage wound around her stomach. She turned towards the breathing. Lying in the bed beside her, again with the fog above him, was Riddick. His eyes were closed, his goggles on the night stand.

She didn’t say anything, but lay there watching him for a long moment.

“He was a Merc, and he laid a trap for me.”

His voice didn’t really startle her, but she was surprised that he was awake. His eyes opened, and he turned the silver to her.

“How long was I out?”

“A few days.”

Kylie nodded, sitting up slowly. She shook her head when he tried to stop her from removing the bandage. She wanted to see how bad it looked. The wound was stitched closed, but it looked more like a wound weeks old then days.

He brushed a finger over the injury very lightly. She shivered at his touch, and laid back on the bed again.

“She said she’s waiting for you.” She closed her eyes. “She’s with you a lot.”

She felt his eyes on her. She didn’t show him how she was feeling. Whoever she was, she knew that Riddick cared about her a lot, and she felt the same for him. Kylie was hurting because of this.

“I almost died, and she sent me back with that message. She’s why you’re going to the threshold.” It wasn’t a question, she knew it was a fact. When she came back, whoever she was, Kylie wouldn’t stand in the way.

“Jack.” He whispered.

She nodded a little. “It was her in my dreams, trying to tell me then.”

He shifted in the bed, and she finally opened her eyes, feeling in enough control to look at him. He was staring at the wall, not saying anything, so she stood.

She was shaky on her feet, but she made it into the shower. The water felt good on her skin, but she didn’t care. Sometimes having the abilities she had just plain sucked. She sank to the shower floor, wrapping her arms around her knees and cried silently.

The threshold grew closer by the day. Those who were crossing over prepared themselves, going through more purifications, and their ships were readied. Riddick prepared a ship of his own, with the preserved body of Kyra within. Kylie hadn’t said anything to him since she had delivered the message, and was still living out of her ship, though she spent the days at his side in the throne room.

Finally the day came. Dame Vaako was escorted to a ship, with Kylie there to watch and ensure she got on. Despite her pleading with him, Vaako remained behind. Over all more then half of the Necromonger society left, crossing the threshold.

Kylie walked with them as Riddick was escorted to his ship by Vaako and his highest regiment. She didn’t say a word as he gave Vaako last minute orders and boarded his ship.

She watched, her face blank as the ship lifted off and left.
