Chapter 25
Chapter 25/32
ENTER DA SHINNING
Keith and Slater drove their own cars to the hotel. It just so happened that Beth had a spare key. She had kept it from when she did lil odds and inns for Angel. Now, she worked independently.
It took them 20 minutes to arrive there. They quickly got out of their cars and headed toward the front entrance. Luckily for Beth, the sun wasn’t out. It was a dark and gloomy day. Hmm, was this a sign of things to come?
They were greeted with one hell of a mess inside. Papers, books, tables, and chairs were scattered. Beth quickly ran to where the ritual took place. The rest just stood there inspecting the wreckage in sight. Beth looked for the papers that had cited the “sacred words.” She found a stack of papers and she grabbed them. The paper on the top did indeed cite the “sacred words” so she began to hand them out. She didn’t bother to go through each and every one.
“How long will it take for this “backup” to show up, Slater?” Keith asked.
When Slater told him about this, Keith was just a lil uneasy about it.
Slater looked at his watch and said, “Uh about 20 minutes at the most.
“Jack?” Imam cried out.
Everyone looked at him to see what was wrong. There, in his hands, was the drawing of Jack. He didn’t recognize the beautiful woman staring back at him. But those eyes gave it away.
“Oh Imam I’m So Sorry!! When you cried for her at my house, all my thoughts just got boggled up. I hadn’t even finished telling the story yet and I had so much to say. I guess that just got lost in the shuffle. I’m truly sorry that I left that part out,” Beth remorsefully said. Damn, getting flash backs of Nessa and how I didn’t mean to cause her any harm. Am I cursed or something? Beth thought.
“All praises be to Allah, this is Jack. Well, she’s all grown up now. How could this be?” She was only a mere child the last time I saw her in New Mecca.” David said.
“Hmm “Cari” said the same thing.” Beth retorted.
“She looks at least 20 years old. She’s mos def a beautiful woman. My Daughter…A Woman!! “Imam exclaimed. I wonder what Mr. Riddick thinks of all of this, Imam thought with a slight smirk.
“They never did discover why this happened. We can only assume that this mystical place has done the trick. For whatever reasons and how has yet to be revealed,” Beth explained.
Keith, Slater, and Darla were taking turns looking at Jack’s picture. “And the plot thickens,” Slater sarcastically said.
Beth looked at her watch and 8 minutes had flown by. "Okay y’all, let’s do this. Let’s take a few minutes to memorize these sacred words and get started,” Beth suggested. Everyone gave it the twice over and soon had it stored in their memory banks.
Now they had 10 minutes to left. Beth told them to gather around the circle and hold hands. She nodded, signaling for them to start the ritual. In unison they all cited these "sacred words”:
"Give it up!!
Up Jumps da boogie, boogie jumps me
Give it up!!
We gon’ show, you how we party
Up Jumps da boogie, boogie jumps me
Give it up!!
We gon’ show, you how we party."
A Vortex suddenly appeared from out of nowhere. It was incredible. As it gradually opened up, the brighter it got. It reflected a silvery glow all around it. Beth motioned for the foursome to go ahead. She told them that she and Slater would jump in after their back up came. They all agreed and jumped in. Now, five minutes remained. Four minutes passed and still no backup.
Beth turned to Slater and told him that she had to leave now. “Slay baby, I can’t leave them alone for too long. It’s been four whole minutes. Who knows how this dimension keeps time,” she said through her sobs. Tears were falling down her cheek. He wiped them away and tried to choke back his own tears. She kissed his moist lips and hugged him. They stood and embraced for a second and then she too jumped in. Slater began to sob softly with only 50 seconds left. He began to curse and pace the floor. Now, down to 40 secs…30 secs….20secs…10secs…the door opened.
Back up had arrived.
“Glad you could make it,” Slater said as he motioned for them to jump in the vortex.
They held hands and jumped in together. Within seconds a glowing ball showed up closing the vortex completely. Then it too disappeared.
