No Favors
TUESDAY 9:15 AM******************
Eva wakes up to the smell of food, she looks next to her and smiles as she sees her sister sleeping peacefully in the living room.
"Good morning, you two most of stood up late last night" entering the living room, Gloria has a plate full of pancakes and eggs with plantains on the side. Eva's stomach grumbles as she smells the food.
"Ooooooh, plantains" she says grabbing the plate. No one cooked plantains like her mom, they were toasted yet not hard and just the right amount of salt.
After breakfast Gloria goes to work and Erica and Eva get dressed.
"What's on the agenda for today?" an eager Erica says. It was like they both agreed on not speaking about the night before without actually saying it.
herehere are a few things I need to get done today, wanna tag along?"
"Sure, can I drive?" she puts her hands together in a 'please' position.
"Sure, when you get your permit" a teasing Eva grabs they keys and they are gone. They drive about a half hour and Eva parks the car behind a grey house.
"Who lives here?" Erica looks around the house but sees no one.
"An old friend of mine. I need for you stay in the car, OK?" Eva closes the door and heads towards the back of the house. Erica stays there with an upset look on her face. Once at the door Eva knocks and a woman answers the door.
"Who the hell are you?" she looks to be in her 30's with all the makeup she has on, but by her voice Eva knows this girl is younger than she appears.
"I'm looking for Milton, is he here?" Eva looks passed her inside the house.
"Like I said, who's looking for him?" she puts her hand in the way, so Eva couldn't see inside anymore. Eva looks at her up downdown and smiles.
"Tell him it's Eva, he'll know who it is"
"He don't know any Eva, now why don't you just go away " she's about to close the door when Eva pushes her knocking her to the ground. Eva walks in and stands there looking at the girl on the ground as she slowly gets back up and looks at Eva like she is crazy.
"I'm gonna kick your ass bitch" the girl says to Eva as she begins to approach her.
**************INSIDE ONE OF THE ROOMS IN THE GREY HOUSE*****************
Milton sits at his desk with a machine, counting stacks of money, when all of the sudden the door flies open, he jumps up and looks baffled at what's in front of him. Eva walks closer and has the girl in a choke hold.
"Good help is hard to find, isn't Milton?" Milton's smile begins to creep on his face.
"Oh my God Eva! Come here girl, give me a hug" Eva lets go of the girl and gives her a 'Don't you try it look'. Milton picks her up and swings her around then turns to the other girl.
"It's OK, you can leave" the girl closes the door behind her and shoots Eva a nasty look.
"From the bruises on her face, I'd say you haven't change a bit" he pauses to look in her eyes "And this isn't a social visit is it?" Milton signals for her to sit as he takes a seat.
"It's so good to see you Milton. I have a favor to ask and it's a big one. " Eva leans in towards the desk and Milton does the same "N "No favors. A favor will kill you faster than a bullet. Anything you need cousin, just ask" Eva explains the story with Blanca, which a lot he already knew. Milton was her cousin from her father side and although they were not that close growing up, their family taught them in crisis family always stick together. He gets up and tells Eva to follow him into another room. He picks up a remote control looking device and pushes a button, a wall begins to move revealing a secret room and inside there are more guns that Eva had ever seen in her life.
"Holy shit Milton!" he begins to laugh and throws his hands in the air.
"I told you whatever you need, take it, your my family, your problems are my problems." he squeezes her shoulder and Eva picks up a Berreta .45 caliber. She holds the cold steel in her hand and points it at the wall, it felt so good in her hands, she loved guns but knew if she kept one in her home the probability of her using it was greater, so she never bought one for her self. To think of it, she never needed one before.
"What else do you need me to do?" Milton asks as he picks up a 9mm and cocks it.
"I need you to be my shadow. I have to do this myself but Blanca is not going to fight fair, that's when you come in" he nods.
"I know where to find her, but it's gotta be way after hours you know" he says as he tells one of his girls to bring him a drink, he asks Eva if she wants one but she shakes her head.
"Tonight! I want to do this tonight. I can't keep living like this. Not knowing when she's going to strike. I'm going after her first." Eva has a tight grip on the gun.
"Alright then, that's what's up. Let me get my crew together and let them know it's going down tonight" Eva nods and he gets up to make a few calls.
Eva walks outside with the gun wrapped in a brown bag and gets in the car, placing the bag under her seat.
"About time, I'm bored as hell" Erica looks like she was falling asleep . After some shopping and cruising they head home and Gloria is already cooking dinner. They sit and enjoy the food. Gloria goes up to her room to watch her nightly Spanish soaps. Erica calls Eva into the living room.
"Eva there is this huge college party going on tonight at the 'Edge' can you tell mom that I want to go."
"Not tonight Erica, you have to stay home" she walks away from Erica and sits on the sofa as she turns on the TV. Erica stands there looking at honfuonfused.
com come on, Eve. If you don't want me going by myself then come with me. I have to go to this party please!!!" she begs her sister. Eva sits there for a moment, she remembers what Milton said 'It's gotta be way after hours' she figures she's not going to get much sleep anyway.
"Fine, but I'm going with you" Erica starts jumping up and down. Eva goes up the stairs and tells her mom they are going to the Edge for a little while and she will bring Erica home early.
