Chapter 27: Quick Learner #1
On Monday Eva begins training Erica at the store, she's a quick learner just like big sister. From the looks of it she's enjoying being taught by Eva ~ a little too much.
"Why you so happy today?" Eva asks.
"Uhm, nothing, just thinking about everything I would have missed if I hadn't come to stay with you" Erica sits on a stool by the counter. A customer comes in and orders breakfast.
"Can I do this one?" Erica asks with pleading eyes. Eva nods and Erica sprints off to prepare the meal. *At least she's happy* Eva thinks. At lunch Eva closes the store and takes lunch to the team at the shop. After she closes the store Erica says she's joining some friends for the night. Eva reminds her to come home early ~ they have work in the morning ~ Erica nods walking out the door.
"And I want to meet your friends" Eva yells, following Erica only to see her driving away in a motorcycle. Moment's later Dom comes home from the shop and Eva tells him about her day. Casually she informs him of Erica and her new friends. Dom mentions nothing from the night before; he still has some investigating to do before he worries her.
Monotonously, the week goes by and Saturday morning is the same deal. Mia and Brian will be arriving on Sunday and Eva can't wait to hear about it. At lunchtime Eva and Erica show up at the garage as always. Eva immediately notices something wrong with Dom; she walks pass Vince who is avoiding her eyes. She places the lunch on the table and they all gather.
"Hey Let what's going on?" Eva whispers to Letty.
"I don't know, but its not good" she walks away before the guys notice anything. Eva takes Dom's lunch to his office where they always eat together. She enters closing the door, something she rarely does. Dom turns around to see why the need for privacy.
"Hey love" Eva kisses him and Dom kisses her back. She places his food in front of him laying everything out. "Can I ask you something?" she asks sitting down.
"Of course" he answers taking a bite from his sandwich.
"What's going on?" the question is simple. Dom doesn't meet her eyes, but takes a swig from his Snapple. This almost confirms her suspicions. Finally he looks up at her and out the office into the garage.
"Vince and I are going to the races tonight" the answer seems simple. ~ Races? Dom hadn't been to a race in... Eva can't even remember the last time he'd been to a race.
"A race huh? Can I come with?" she invites herself. Dom hesitates but agrees, telling her he'd pick her up at 9, but to make sure Erica is staying home tonight. Eva asks why, Dom tells her it might be a little more dangerous than usual to go.
Back at the store Eva is about ready to start cleaning up to close when a young woman enters. Eva glances back not paying much attention, she has time for one last customer. Erica is somewhere in the back unaware of the visitor.
"What can I get ya!" Eva asks turning to the counter.
"Actually I'm here to see Erica" Ayeme says politely.
"Oh, sure I'll get her for you" Eva goes in the back and tells Erica she has a visitor. She's actually skipping to the front.
"Hey, what's up?" Erica asks a little surprised but delighted nonetheless. Eva stands behind Erica poking her on the side, Erica giggles.
"Ayeme this is my sister Eve; Eve this is my friend Ayeme" she says proudly.
"Nice to meet you" Ayeme shakes Eva's hand.
"Same here, hey by the way nice bike" Eva points outside.
"Thanks" Ayeme says. She looks towards Erica "Just wanted to know if you're coming tonight" she bites her bottom lip. Before Erica can respond Eva jumps in.
"Uhm Erica, can I talk to you for a quick sec" she pulls her by the arm and Erica looks at Ayeme apologetically.
"What!" Erica says annoyed.
"Listen I know I told you, that you could go out without needing my permission but, I need you to stay home tonight" Erica looks at her disappointed.
"Stay home? Why?" she whines.
"Look Dom told me something is going down at the races tonight. I don't want you there, it could be dangerous." Erica scoffs and turns around mumbling a "˜Fine' along the way. Eva hates giving Erica boundaries but it has to be done. By the time Eva goes back to the front of the store, Ayeme is gone and Erica is cleaning the counter.
"You ready to go?" Eva asks and Erica simply nods. They close up and head home, Eva pulls in the driveway. She takes some shopping bags inside the house, mostly groceries from the store. Erica goes out one more time to make sure they forgot nothing. Her eyes wonder to the garage behind the house. The lock is open. *No harm in just looking* Erica thinks, she sneaks inside. Pictures and trophies along with junk cover the walls. At the back, she can see the shadow of something, it's covered. ~ Is it what she thinks it is? She pulls the cover off, dust goes flying in the air and inside her nostrils making her sneeze.
"WOW!" she gasps " A Honda CBR600" she says ecstatically. She catches movement from the corner of her eye. Slowly she turns around and looks at the intruder. Erica smiles from ear to ear.
