Chapter 28- Mutiny
Syndrome sat in front of a table fuming. There were no newspaper reports anymore and local television stations had stopped broadcasting several days ago, so there was no official source for any news, but there was word on he street. Last night over a hundred high security criminals were busted out of prison and let loose on the city. Broken out by his own cronies nonetheless. Alpha and Omega were supposed to be loyal to him, yet he hadn’t ordered them to do this.
Shita rubbed his shoulders but he shrugged her off roughly. “Leave me.” He snapped. She moved into view, to give him a good look at her hurt face.
“I’m sure it’s all a part of his plan.” She said reassuringly. “I’m sure he knows what he’s doing.”
There was a snide laugh from the corner of the room. “So sure of a person you barely know.” Came Edna’s weak, but still venomous voice. Shita looked at the source of the noise, a cage bolted to the floor. “Silence hag.” She spat in her direction. Edna simply laughed and said one last thing. “Ignore me then and be driven to hell by that madman.”
Syndrome looked over to her cage and slowly wheeled himself over. Edna was a filthy starved thing after such a long incarceration. She only ate when someone remembered to toss a scrap of food her way. She looked up at him with large, hateful, eyes. Syndrome looked down at her through the bars. “All truly great leaders were considered mad in their time. But you shall see Edna. History shall judge us right in the end.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Edna said slyly. “You might not hear him, but I do. I hear him late at night away at things that are not there. Arguing with his whatever demons haunt his heart. You have a damaged ship riding stormy seas and a madman at the helm.” Edna laughed, first a giggle, but it quickly broke down into full blown hysterics. Syndrome bashed the side of the cage with his metal hand to silence her.
He was about to shout more but the metal door opened with a clang. Syndrome turned and immediately glared as Psychewave marched into the room, flanked by Alpha and Omega. Shita jumped from her chair and Syndrome rolled toward him. “You.” He growled angrily. “What did you do?”
“Exactly as I planned.” Psychewave said coldly.
“The plan was to take this city to the edge then pull it back and take over. Yet you released highly dangerous criminals Psychewave, a level of chaos that cannot be controlled. It’s too much.” Syndrome yelled, pulling up right in front of Psychewave and glaring up at him. Psychewave glared downward with a equal amount of hatred.
“The plan changed.” He clenched his fists and sent Syndrome flying out of his chair and across the room with a powerful telekinetic blast. He cried out as he crashed into the floor and skidded along until he crashed into the wall. Shita stared in shock at Psychewave for only the blink of an eye. “Bastard.” She screeched and leapt at Psychewave, swinging her leg round in what would be a powerful martial arts kick. She never even got close to him. Psychewave sent her flying toward Syndrome with a wave of his hand.
Syndrome climbed, slowly and painfully up to his mechanical feet, he waved unsteadily on his metal legs. He could walk, he just found it much easier to use the chair. “You’ll pay for that you bastard. Alpha, Omega, kill him.” He shouted furiously. The two cybernetic bodyguards stayed by the door, they never eve twitched. Syndrome’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped in shock.
Psychewave laughed and folded his arms, a smug look appearing on his face. “It’s your own fault. You chose them for their weak minded loyalty and willingness to serve. The perfect mind to be shaped to my will. I barely even had to use my mind manipulation power to turn them to me. A few choice words would have done just as well.”
Syndrome glared and clenched his fists, in his head he realised this was the second time one of his inventions had turned against him. Psychewave waved a hand and knocked Syndrome off his feet again. “Did you think I would ever share my power with you?” Psychewave said with a sneer. “You’re the one that killed my mother. Did you think I would soil her memory by letting you be involved with the plan.” He telekinetically grabbed Syndrome around the throat and lifted him upward toward the ceiling. Shita staggered up to her feet and tried again to attack Psychewave but she was thrown hard into the wall and fell unconscious. “I used you, your wonderful resources.” He glanced over his shoulder at Alpha and Omega. “To achieve my ends. Did you think I would be satisfied with just ruling this city?” He laughed cruelly. “No, I have a new plan now. All I ever had when I was locked in my cell was time to think and plan. I have something much grander in mind.” He loosened his telekinetic power on syndromes neck slightly, letting him breath, he didn’t want him to pass out before he was done. “I will tear this city apart, burn it to the ground. The wake of this disaster will send a shockwave across the world. Everywhere people will cry out for stronger protection, more powerful leaders.” He sat back and leaned against a desk. He wasn’t even looking at Syndrome now, he stared off into space. “The only logical conclusion will be to put the Hero’s in charge. Only with the Supers commanding the nations will the people be safe again.” He rubbed at his eye like he was wiping away a tear, but his face was dry. “I might never rule anywhere, I have come to terms with that. It doesn’t matter. Because history will remember me as the bringer of this glorious revolution. Power is wonderful but you can’t take it with you. People will revere my name long after this pathetic resistance has gone the way of the dodo.” His eyes slid back into focus and he looked at Syndrome again with a new cruelty. “Of course, you won’t be there to see it.”
To be continued.
