US Marshals-Modern Day Warriors

It was afternoon before they knew it. Both were having a good time. Dani however felt that old feeling . WAR.

"What is it Dani?" asked Sam.

"I have a feeling that I had in Bosnia. I call it War. I'm hardly ever wrong." She said.

"Do you think we need to go back to the cabin." Asked Sam.

"I don't rightly know I just feel something out there." She said.

"Have we waited too long to eat?" He asked her with concern in his voice.

"It's not my blood sugar if that is what you are worried about." She said trying to shake that feeling.

"Good. You are really spooked aren't you?" Said Sam.

"Yes. Sam it is getting stronger." She said taking out her gun.

"What?" Said Sam.

"Sam do you have your Glock?" Said Dani. "Damn!" She said as fear registered on her face.

He took that move she had made with her gun to heart. He put down the fishing gear and unholstered his weapon.

They rushed back to the cabin. Sam had drawn his Glock. Dani her Berretta. They checked every thing but came up empty.

"I still feel it." She said.

"I'm beginning to feel it too." Said Sam very concerned.

"What do you think it is?" SDaniDani.

"I don't know Miss Dani. I know the feeling you are talking about. I know it well." Said Sam.

"Nam?" She asked.

"Yeah. Bosnia?" He asked her of her feeling.

"Yeah, just different parts of the world that had trouble. We both know the horrors of it." Said Dani.

"True Dani, we have almost too much in common." Said Sam.

What Sam didn't know was that Dani was never wrong. It always meant er wer was on the way.

They ate lunch and Dani got out her Crossbow. She was trying to shake the feeling. She set up some targets about 100 yards from the cabin. She loaded an arrow up and let it go. It hit the center of the bull’s-eye.

"Look at that!" Said Sam.

"Want to try?" She asked Sam.

"I have done this before." Said Sam stepping up to where she had set up the line for Archery.

He loaded an arrow and let it fly. It split the one she had done earlier down the middle.

"Shit." Said Dani. "You didn't tell me you knew how to use a crossbow?" She was impressed.

"I told you that there are some "things" you don't know about me, yet." Said Sam with a hit of lechery in his brown eand and smiling.

"Like what?" She said putting her hands on her hips and smiling back. What other "things" are there about you that you would like to show me?" &#P> "What other "things" would you like me to show you?" Said Sam putting the crossbow down and still having that lecherous look in his eyes. He walked over to Dani.

"You tell me?” Said Dani. “I think you are going to show me." As she started backing up. Sam was going after her.

"Maybe I will. You and I are goin' to the woodshed, Miss Dani." Said Sam running after her.

Dani took off in tin the woods. She was laughing. "Catch me if you can Sam."

Sam was doing his best to catch her. He got closer and pulled her leg out from under her she fell to the ground. It was afternoon and getting colder when he jumped on her. Then he got the notion to tickle the shit out of her.

Sam tickled her till she told him to stop.

"Shit Sam how old are you any way." saidsaid shrieking with the tickling he was doing.

Sam looked at Dani. She was red and she was beautiful. There were feelings there still. He stopped his torment and helped her off the ground. He realized that he hadn't spent enough time with her and that he very well could loose her to Cosmo. The time that they had together had been good and he did love her. He was sure of that now What was he going to do? How could he have more time for her? That is what happened to him and Cathrine. He couldn’t expect her to wait and Cosmo was in the same apartment complex.

"You are the meanest Boss I ever had." She said smiling.

"Well, you asked for it. Other things my foot!" Said Sam still with a grin on his face.

"Well, I'm sorry. You haven't called for a date in a while ." She said looking coy.

"Yeah, I know." Said Sam a certain sadness in his voice.

"What is it Sam?" She asked as she got a serious look on her face.

"I wish I had more time Dani. " He said sadly.

"I wish we had more time too. Maybe this is the way to get it." She said.

"What about Cosmo? Don't you care how he feels?" Said Sam.

"Sam, Yes I do. It's just that Cosmo and I haven't gone to bed and I did it for a reason. The reason is you, I have waited almost 8 years for you Sam." She said.

"Why did you tell him that you love him Dani? Wait I know you. You told him that because he was dying not because you wanted to. Ho yoo you know it's me?" Said Sam.

"Yes. I did and now I have to live with it. It's just I do love him but I don't think I love him that way. I just don't know. I never meant to hurt anyone. I don't know it's a feeling I get when I am with you. What about Cathrine? She said.

"But, you do love him? Cathrine and I are friends." He asked.

"Yes. I do. I found that out when I almost lost him." Said Dani.

"And you said that you have feeling for me too?" Said Sam.

"Yes I do Sam. You are by far one of the finest men alive and one of the best looking." She said.

"Thank you Miss Dani." Said Sam almost blushing.

"What are your feelings toward me?" She asked looking into his deep brown eyes.

Sam hung his head and let out a ragged breath.

"Miss Dani, I have the worst crush I ever had." He said.

"I'm sorry I really didn't know. You and I have a serious problem looking up our ass." She said.

"We sure might. Let's go hunting you and I. You take that bow and me the 410. Spend a little time this afternoon. " Said Sam.

"That sounds like fun. What are you suggesting? " Said Dani smiling.

"HUNTING?" Asked Sam smiling with a hint of lechery.

"I don't know 'bout you Sam You might have a lecherous side just like Cosmo." She said giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"I just might at that." Said Sam not releasing her. He stared at her for a moment he was loosing his chance with her he thought. He looked at hed bed bent in to kiss her. She bent into it too. He held her in his arms and the kiss deepened. She gave him a tonsil cleaning. It was different with Cosmo. This was fire. Passion and more than she had expected. His hands explored her body. First her breasts and then he put his hands on her butt. She was breathless. He was more than ready to haul off and take her right there.

"Sam, we can't here, right now." She said propped up against the tree. He was leaning against her.

"Dani, do you know what you are doing to me?" Said Sam pressing against her breathing hard.

"I have some idea Sam." She said as he pressed closer. "I know you don't carry your back up pistol that low."

He laughed a little. Breaking the tension of the moment They composed themselves and walked back to the cabin.

"You want to go and see if we can scare up some dinner." Said Sam.

"Sure that would be fun." She said as he took her hand. They picked up the cross bow on the way back.

"So Dani where’s the 410." Asked Sam.

"In the cabin. At the door." She said going in. She packed the shells and got her quiver set and a bed roll. She filled a canteen and took a towel and a bed roll.

Sam and Dani walked into the woods. They walked awhile. Sam knew the woods. They hunted awhile shooting two rabbits and three squirrels. They rested awhile. They got out the bed roll.

"You are a crack shot Dani." Said Sam of her hunting skills.

"You're not bad yourself Sam." She said getting the canteen and they both took a swig of water.

Sam looked at the beautiful woman he was beginning to fall in love with. She was good at a lot of things. He took her into his arms again. It was like she was the one he had waited for all his life and she was thinking the same thing. Being her boss was one thing. Being her lover was going to be another. He wanted that more than anything. It was love in the purest form. He smiled at her and she smiled back. He kissed her and the passion began again. There would be no stopping it this time. He didn't want to make her feel obligated to do it. But he knew she wanted him just as much.

"You sure you want this?" Asked Sam hoping he was reading her right.

"Yes. I waited an awful long and lonely time for you." She said.

"I know you have. I waited along time myself. What is this Dani?" Said Sam.

"I think we are in love and just haven't caught on yet." She said. Do you remember what happened after I defused the bomb at the Hubart bust. You almost kissed me then. I haven't quite figured out why either. We had only just met. There was something there then."

"I think so too. If you remember we were interrupted. I don't know why either. It's been hard for me to say I love anyone. That won't be a problem anymore and certainly not with you. I love you Dani. I have for along time. Sometimes I think I dreamed you into life." He said.

"How sweet Sam. I love you too. It's the same for me at least were you are concerned." She said.

"This aint a real good place for a first time. We ought to just go back to the cabin." He said.

"You started me up. You gonna pull away?" Said Dani.

"No. I just wanted it not to be out here." He said.

"You are a man of little words." Said Dani.

"I do better with actions." He said pulling her into his arms again.

"I believe you do Sam. Showing someone is half the fun if I remember correctly." She said.

He began to kiss her again. She did want Sam. He was Fire. Fire that never died. Passion that never ebbed and she wanted all he had to give her. He and Dani were alike. They were more alike than they thought.

"I'm on the pill." She said.

"Good and I haven't done this in quite a while either. 8 years. That is a long time to wait for passion." He said.

"I kind of lied to Cosmo. Ted and I had a thang going for awhile. He was my Captain and it really complicated things. That is why I hesitated to do this. That was a mess and I didn't want another one. But this is a mess too. So I suppose I am asking for it." She said.

"Dani I am quite a bit older than you. That bother you Gal?" He said.

"No. Not really what are you 45?" she said.

"I'll be 52 soon." he said winching a little.

"Well, that is a surprise. You wear it well Cowboy." Said Dani

"Dani we don't have too, I don't want you to think I would obligate you like that." Said Sam.

"I don't feel obligated I don't work that way. If I did not want this believe me you would know. I waited 8 years and I tried to picked a man that I believed can give me what I need." She said.

"You think so do you." He said laying down with his head propped up on his hand.

&"I t"I think so. That kiss was pure lava." She said.

"Good." Said Sam as she lay down beside him.

"You are a lovely woman Dani. I have always thought so." Said Sam putting his hand on her face. "Where is this going?"

"Anywhere you want to." She said.

"Where do you want it to go after." He said.

"Play it by ear. You wont have to worry Sam. I have no ties on you." She said.

"Only around my heart." He said with a serious look on his face.

Dani pulled him to her. The kiss deepened again.

"Remember what I said. No strings." She said.

"I will Miss Dani." He said. "Let's go back to the cabin. It is getting chilly out here."

"I suppose you are right. I can wait until we get back." She said getting up.

They picked up their things and walked back to the cabin. Then it was throw things down. Get into the house. They were knocking over chairs and other stuff as they kissed and proceeded to rip each others clothes off.

"Upstairs now Dani." Said Sam a little out of breath and growling a bit.

Dani was a little surprised at his virility. He wasn't acting like a soon to be 52 year old man. She ran up the steps, Sam at her heels. Clothes were scattered from the back door of the cabin to the stairs. She flung open the door to her room and they proceeded to knock over things in there. A tangle of arms, legs and bodies. He maneuvered her onto the bed. Fire hit them both as they fell onto the bed together.

The fire that they had set was now blazing. It was now late afternoon when it had happened. Sam had a certain raw flair about him. They were tangled in each others arms again. They had managed to get what little they still had on off as they lay on the bed.

"My God you are beautiful." He said admiring the view before him.

"I didn't really know if you could handle these." She said of the scars.

"I can. I don’t see them Gal." He said and he really didn't. All he saw was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his life. They would be just fine together. He knew it would be more than just one time. He hoped a little it might be forever. He looked at the woman in his arms. They were lost in each other by that time.

"So we already have pet names for each other. Cowboy." She said.

"I guess." He said smiling at her.

He got a serious look on his face again. Then they kissed setting off rockets. They were together all afternoon making love. It was something she had needed for along time. Sam was the one to give her what she needed. Sam wouldn't complicate things with a relationship. Or so she thought. Cosmo would and he would want to marry her and she didn't want that. She loved Cosmo but he wanted too much from her. Sam would be there for male companionship. Her life was much too complicated for a husband and kids she knew she didn't want. It was far too late for that anyway she had thought.

"I haven't had sex that good in a while. I am a bit rusty." Said Dani.

"Almost a decade. I think you did just fine. We were like wolves." He said very pleased with her.

"That is far too long. Where ya been Sam?" She asked.

"Dani!" He said. "You are truly amazing."

"I thought I had forgotten what that felt like. I got news for you Cowboy, I don't exactly know how many you gave me." She said as he put his arms around her.

"Yeah, how did you do that anyway?" Said Sam teasing her.

"You! Sam you are a wonderful lover. That’s what happened. You know what buttons to push and for how long. We will have to do this again." She said wickedly.

"You are like the energizer bunny Dani Little Elk." He said.

"We did get dinner." Said Dani.

"And something else too." Said Sam.

"Yeah, we had each other." Said Dani.

"And had each other and had each other. Did I forget one or two?" He asked playfully.

"You forgot plenty." Said Dani.<

"I haven't done this in about 3 or 4 years. I just didn't have time." Said Sam.

"You know where I live. Drop by sometime and wake up the neighbors." She said.

"Cosmo lives there Dani." Said Sam.

"Yeah, now I see complications." Said Dani

"Let's not worry about the next time. It will happen. I want more of you. And soon." He said.

"Good. I want more of you too. The sooner the better." She said growling a bit herself.

"You know I don't know why we didn't do this sooner. We are great together." Said Sam holding her.

"Just timing was wrong. I know you would have in the office in Madison. If Cathrine hadn't walked in I really think you would have. That dress of mine was cooking all the men that day. Even Biggs." Said Dani.

"It cooked me alright. Dani you are the best." He said putting his hand on her face. He truly meant it. He had never felt like this in his life.

"Cowboy, what is it?" She asked rolling into a more comfortable position.

"Oh, Gal." Said Sam as he kissed her again.

"Pet name?" She asked.

"Suppose so Dani. It's been all afternoon. It's getting late." He said looking at her travel clock.

"Well, I have supper cooking down stairs." Said Dani.

"Always prepared. That's my Dani." Said Sam slipping.

"You want something more from me, don't you? Don't lie." She said.

"I don't know yet Dani. I know this, I would like to call you mine. Would you mind that so much?" He asked.

Dani thought for a moment. The thought was not repulsive to her. In fact it made her feel safer than she had felt in a long time. But Dani was Dani and she just had to make the situation a bit more light it it was it was getting too serious for her.

"Ok, you want to go steady?" She asked in a high school falsetto.

"Yeah, I suppose. Do you still want Cosmo?" He asked candidly.

"No, not that way. It wasn't meant for us." Said Dani. "Besides I only want you pushing those buttons."

"I'm relieved. I thought this was just once. Glad you enjoyed yourself. I know I did." Said Sam. He had become quite gentle all of a sudden. The hunger was over at least for the moment.

"Let's go see if that stuff you have in the slow cooker is done, I am starved." Said Sam.

"Alright." She said a little reluctant to leave the bed and his arms.

"You don't want to leave quite yet?" He asked. They were practically reading each others minds at this point. It would always be like that.

"I know I have to eat." She said giving him a final hug for the moment. They got dressed and went down stairs. He was glad she hesitated to get out of bed and leave. They both felt like they were breathing in life again. Both had been alone for quite awhile. They looked at the mess that they had made coming in. They both laughed at it picking up stuff they had knocked over and the clothes they had discarded.

“Looks like wolves were fighting over clothes in here.” Said Dani.

“I’d say.” Said Sam chuckling a bit.

She had put Chili on early just in case they didn't hunt.

They walked down the stairs and he began to clean the game they had shot.

"So, Gal whatcha got in the slow cooker?" He asked.

"Five alarm chili, certified to burn a hole in your gut." She said.

"Been along time since I had real Texas Chili." Said Sam smelling the aroma.

"Good, I think you will like it." She said.

"I enjoyed this afternoon Gal. You are an amazing woman. Not just the sex but for all the other things you do." Said Sam looking up from the game.

"I did too. Would you like it if we just shared a room from now on. I mean that spell is broken." Said Dani.

"Not unless it is something you want." Said Sam.

"Yes. I would Sam." Said Dani. Sam smiled. The thought of being with her through the night made him one happy man.

They ate and talked and played cards. Poker. She was good at that too. In a relationship there has to be friendship and Sam and Dani would always have that. .

That night they slept in the same room. Dani still felt the tension mounting out there. She heard walking around outside. She got out of bed. She put her clothes on and grabbed her Beretta.

Sam had heard the sound too and pulled on a pair of pants and a sweat shirt.

"You heard it too?" Said Sam pulling on his shoes .

"Yeah, walking around." Said Dani.

"Let's check it out." Said Sam grabbing his gun.

She nodded her head yes and drew her Berretta.

Sam and Dani went down the stairs. At the landing he stopped and waved for her to go to the sliding door. He would check the front. She pulled the patio curtain and could see two men outside on the dock.

"Sam." She whispered.

Sam came over to her and she parted the curtain to reveal the men.

"Now just what are they doing." Said Sam.

"I don't know Sam. Maybe a bit of pilfering. " Said Dani peering over his shoulder.

"The doors are locked. Shit they are stealing the boat." Said Sam.

"What do we do nowaskeasked Dani.

"It aint worth a confrontation." He said. "Better let them have it."

They went into the living room. It was too dark to see who they were. They sat in the dark for a moment. Then they heard glass crashing. They both sprang to their feet. They rushed over to the window. The men were breaking into Sam's Chevy.

There was a guard light outside and they could see the men. Both of them recognized them as the Dixon Brothers.

"Shit Dani you were right." Said Sam looking at her.

"I knew something or someone was out there watching." She said.

"How do you do it?" He asked.

"Instinct. Had it since a raid in Bosnia." Said Dani. "So here we are 2 Marshals and no way to stop them."

"We just can't confront them. That would be suicide" Said Sam.

"I can get one of them if you can get the other." Said Dani.

"Shoot them? That's too risky Dani." Said Sam.

"I know but we have no choice. They almost got the Chevy hot wired." Said Dani.

"I still have my cell phone. I can call Cathrine and she can get us back up." Said Sam.

"Better go ahead. They are almost done." Said Dani looking out the window.

Sam called Cathrine and they were getting back up and calling Biggs and Cooper.

"Ok Dani. You take the one on the right me the left." He said as they opened the door enough to shoot.

Dani advanced a bullet in the chamber of the Berretta. Sam said ready, aim, FIRE! Two bullets roared passed them missing them. The men looked around and began firing at the door. Sam and Dani scrambled for cover almost on top of each other. They were crouched under the window.

"Shit." Said Sam." How'd we both miss?"

"Sometimes it happens." Said Dani. "Maybe you'll listen next time when I have one of my War feelings."

"Remind me never to take that for granted again." Said Sam. "Where is the 410?"

"It's right behind you. " She said. Sam looked and got it. The bullets were in the case. He shoved a dozen in his jeans pockets.

"I don't think they are going to stop with just the truck. I'm afraid they will break in." Said Sam.

"There was the sound of more breaking glass. The side door was where they would come in. They waited for them to come into the room backwards on the couch.

It never happened.

"They are getting away on foot, hear it?" Asked Dani.

"Dani wait!" Said Sam. “Damn, how does she do that?” Sam Said under his breath.

Dani didn't wait even to hear him, she started running out the door. Sam was right on her heels. It took everything Sam had to stay at her heels. Dani's tracking skills had kicked in. She was feeling them with all her senses. She stopped and put up her hand as if to say wait. She looked around. A bright full moon shone up above. She swiveled around and pointed to the north. She started walking gun drawn.

Dani knew that they were close. She kept walking. It was light enough almost to see as if it were sunshine. Dani walked beside Sam 410 at the ready.

Roger Dixon the smartest of the brothers tried to grab her in the half darkness. This was a mistake he would live to regret. Sam watched as she fought him blow for blow. Roger finally got a good hold on her. She had messed him up pretty bad, her gun was lost somewhere in the darkness.

"I have your Bitch." Yelled Roger." I want a car and I want it now or she dies!" He had his arm around her neck in a choke hold. He would snap her neck like a tooth pick. She was still fighting him.

Sam heard in his head the words he had once said to Noah Newman. "I DON'T BARGIN." He usually didn't but Roger had Dani.

Ross Dixon shot at Sam. He had found Dani's Beretta. Sam got hit and rolled to a tree.

Dani was tiring of the game and bit him. He smacked her and she fell to the ground. The two brothers ran off into the woods.

Sam had only had a graze. They could hear the sirens blaring in the distance.

They were up all night securing the crime scene. Her tracking skills that she thought had long since died had been revived that night. Deputy Marshal Roger Henry came up to Sam.

"So where's this Little Elk?" Asked Roger Henry.

"There. The woman standing next to Cooper." Said Sam. "Dani! Can I see you for a moment.?"

Dani came walking up to them.

"Dani, this is Deputy Marshal Roger Henry. He works with our Warrants Squad on occasions." Said Sam.

"Pleased to meet you." Said Dani shaking his hand.

"Pleasures mine Ma'am." Said Henry.

"It was Dani's intuition that saved us. She knew something was wrong" Said Sam.

"Well, I did have some help." Said Dani.

"Dani messed up Roger Dixon pretty bad. He will need a doctor. We need to start there at the hospitals and clinics. Even the veterinary clinics in the area. Motels, hotels, residences. Better set up a 25 mile search perimeter. Roger, Dani is impressive." Said Sam.

"I heard she was impressive." Said Henry.

"The legend grows." Said Sam smiling proudly at her.

"Sam, you are embarrassing me." Said Dani blushing a bit.

"We will be out of your hair soon Sam. Why don't you stay today and come back tomorrow?" Said Henry.

"I'll ask Cathrine how she feels about that and I need to be in on the investigation.." Said Sam.

"Suite yourself. Well, I have to go. Nice meeting you Ma'am." Said Henry.

"Please call me Dani." Said Dani.

"That's our Dani. Sweet as can be." Said Sam.

"Pretty tough if you ask me. I'm Roger." Said Henry smiling at her.

Sam asked Cathrine if they could stay another day. She thought it was a good idea. She told him he was on vacation and that he needed it.

That afternoon Sam and Dani snuck away again. They took a blanket and a picnic lunch in the woods. Dani had brought her radio with her. The weather was still warm enough not to have to wear a jacket. The trees were turning. It was a lovely day.

"This is great, you have good ideas sometimes." Said Dani.

"Don't I though." Said Sam getting out the lunch.

She had fried chicken and made potato salad that morning after the business of last night.

"How'd we let those two get away?" She asked.

"I don't know. Unlucky I guess." Said Sam shrugging.

"Do you think they are long gone?" Said Dani.

"I don't know I hope they aren't around here." Said Sam eating a chicken leg. "Say this is almost as good as my grandma's."

"Thanks. She still living?" Said Dani.

"She's in a nursing home in Chicago, She's my daddy's mother. She's almost a hundred and still a pistol." Said Sam.

"What is she like?" Said Dani. Sam's face soften.

"She is a special lady. She raised me after my folks spilt. I had a brother we don't get along." Said Sam.

"She must be. Seeing her grandson is one special man. Must mirror who she is." Said Dani sweetly.

"Grandma is a special woman alright. I don't know about me Dani. She was were I learned to be self sufficient She is loving and kind. My Mamma took my little brother John and drifted in and out of my life. Daddy died after I went into the military. Mamma well, she is in a nursing home in San Angelo. She don't know who she is. That is one reason I don't talk about them." Said Sam.

"Well what did your daddy do?" She asked. To see if he would respond.

"Daddy was a law man. Sheriff’s deputy. Mamma worked in a factory. They couldn't afford to keep both of us apart. Mamma hardly had two cents to rub together." Said Sam.

"I'm sorry Sam. I grew up in south Dallas. I learned early how to dodge bullets and stay away from the drug dealers. We were dirt poor too." Said Dani.

"I suppose we had similar shit happen to us. Your folks together?" Said Sam.

"Yes. I have two brothers. Robert works as a master mechanic and Henry is a sleazy lawyer. We don't get along either. " Said Dani.

"Well I see you made something out of nothing. Just like I did." Said Sam.

"If you can call being a spinster and havihaving a real home something. Sometimes I think I wasted my life." Said Dani.

"I don't think so Gal." Said Sam digging into the potato salad again.

"I never wanted a husband or kids at all. I suppose you are right Cowboy." Said Dani.

They cleaned up the lunch stuff and he kissed her.

"Cowboy, what are you up too?" She asked knowing full well what he was doing.

"Nothing really." Said Sam letting the lecherous side of him come out again.

"That tickles." Said Dani of the way he was touching her.

He gently pushed her on the blanket.

"I know were this is going." Said Dani smiling sweetly.

"Down hill fast." Said Sam pushing her gently further down.

"We can wait?" She asked.

"Sure. No problem." Said Sam. He wasn't letting her up.

"You can let me get up now." Said Dani trying to get up.

"Now why would want to do that? I have you right were I want you." Said Sam with the same evil grin.

"Sam I feel something." She said looking around.

"Where is your sense of adventure?" asked Sam.

"Your gonna in just a minute." Said Sam kissing the side of her neck.

"Sam, WAR." She said as he got up from her.

"Shit are you sure." Said Sam composing himself.

In the distance they heard motor bikes. Dani got her gun out. She felt her instincts kicking in again.

Sam got his Glock. The motor bikes were getting closer. They saw them. Fear gripped both. It was the Dixon brothers again.

"Shit Dani, you sure do have a gift." Said Sam.

"We can't out run them." Said Dani.

"I know and there is no were to run." He said.

Sam let off a couple of rounds at them and they shot back with a sawed off shot gun. Barley missing Dani. Sam dived on her to keep her from getting hit. They looked up at the men on the bikes.

"Run Dani!" Yelled Sam.

"No, we both do." She said grabbing his hand and started running.

Sam knew the woods and he knew there was a bluff coming up. It was a 50 ft drop into the lake. That is the direction the men were pushing them. They got to the edge of the bluff. The men were right behind them.

"Dani can you swim?" He asked quickly.

"Yes." She answered just as fast.

They shot at them again.

"JUMP!" He said Gripping her hand.

They jumped together off the bluff and into the cold water. They rose to the surface. Dani had lost her Beretta in the lake. Sam still had his Glock.

"My gun!" She yelled.

"Forget it Dani." Said Sam.

They continued to fire on them. They dove under the water and swam to the safety of an inlet or so they thought. The men had followed them. They were getting out of the water when the men got off their bikes.

"Well look what we got here. Two little love birds. We saw that yesterday in the woods. I think I might like a little of that myself. Boy Watson was right she is pretty. She's an Injun aint she. What white man would dirty himself screwing an Injun?" Said Ross. “Unless it was to rape her and then kill her.”

That made Sam furious. He pointed and fired at Ross dropping him and killing him.

Roger the smarter one, if that was possible, fired on Sam. Dani did what she had done for her captain, she jumped right in front of Sam and took a bullet in the shoulder.

Sam had the look of terror as he saw her drop at his feet. He looked up at Roger and fired a shot to his head. Killing him.

Sam bent down in the watery sand. He picked Dani up and kicked Ross's deady toy to see if he had any life in it. There wasn’t any. He did the same with Roger and he was dead too. He carried her to a dryer spot and assessed the wound. She was coming too.

"Shit Dani why did you do that." Said Sam. Her wound was bad. She was bleeding quite a bit "I couldn't let that Cracker kill you." Said Dani weakly. “If that bullet had hit you it would have got you in the heart and that wasn’t going to happen if I had a say so in it.”

He took his pocket knife and cut off the bottom of his shirt and fashioned a tourniquet around her right shoulder to help stop the bleeding.

"Shit Gal you almost got it yourself. That was a stupid move." He said scolding her. He was afraid and that is how he handled the situation.

“You know I had too. Sam I just found you. I never questioned doing it.” She said wincing.

"Well, that's two I owe you now." Said Sam. “Did you hear him mention Bob Watson?

"Are we sure it was Bob Watson he was talking about. We will have to do some checking. Oh and Sam I would only do that for a man I loved. I love you." She said.

Sam looked at her for a moment.

"I love you too Dani. Don't do that again. That is an order." Said Sam in a stern Marshal voice.

"We got that said. What now?" Asked Dani.

"We go to the cabin and call the locals and the squad. As for you Gal I am gonna tan your hide if you ever do that again." Said Sam.

"I might like that Sam." Said Dani trying to defuse the situation she knew he was serious.

"Aw shut up. I just found you Dani. I want to die an old man in your arms. Not you die a young woman in mine." Said Sam serious as death.

"Are you asking for, forever?" She asked.

"Yes. I am Miss Dani." He said it without hesitation.

Sam carried Dani back to the cabin and called the locals and the EMS. Dani would be fine. The wound just looked bad. She would have to take it easy herself. They went back that night. Sam had had it with the woods for awhile.

Cosmo saw them coming back. He hobbled over to the window and saw Dani's shoulder bandaged. He got down stairs faster than he thought.

"Sammy, what the hell happed?" Said Cosmo hobbling over.

"We found the Dixon's literally, Cosmo. Dani and I are tired could this wait?" He said.

"Sure. Want me to stay with her tonight?" Said Cosmo.

"No, I will. Man I guess I need to tell you. Dani and I are in love. I think that's what it is Gal?" Said Sam looking at Dani with a bit of a question but he already knew the answer .

She shook her head yes.

"I knew it was coming Sammy. It was only a matter of time for you two I'm glad actually." Said Cosmo.

"That's good Cosmo. I'm sorry to tell you like this." Said Sam.

"Sammy don't worry. I want Dani for a best friend. We were never together really she's more of a baby sister." Said Cosmo.

"She aint no baby Cosmo." Said Sam.

"I know just figurative Sammy." He said Shaking Sam's hand. "Can I help get you settled, bring in things?" Said Cosmo.

"If you want to." Said Sam.

Cosmo helped with the stuff they had. He was a true and loving friend. He really knew that this would happen if they went. It was ok. He really felt good that he wouldn't loose her completely. He still loved her and it was for a friend that he loved her. Cosmo loved Sam too. He was his best friend.

The next day Sam and Dani were back at work. They were discussing what Roger Dixon had said to them about Watson.

“Sam, do you think that they had something going on between the three of them?” She asked.

“Yeah, I think they did.” said Sam as she got up and went over to his desk.

“I think we ought to do some digging.” Said Dani.

“I do too let’s go and see if there is anything left at his desk. If not we will have to go down to evidence then to Cathrine if we find anything.” Said Sam as they both left his office.

They got to his desk and nothing was left on the outside so Dani began digging under the drawers and found papers. She started to read them.

“What did you find Miss Dani?” He asked.

“Looks like forgeries to me Sam. The Ramos case too.” She said handing him some of the papers she had found.

Sam looked at them and got furrows starting on his face.

“Yep, these are forgeries. These were made as a diversion.” Said Sam. I guess he didn’t have time to put them into play.”

“Look the time tables are all wrong. The shipments were not going though Springfield. We know that now. Oh and see, the dates are wrong. We know that now too.” Said Dani.

“Ok we go to Cathrine now.” Said Sam as he started to walk to her office.

“We going to tell her how we came to these conclusions?” She asked.

“Yeah, no use in hiding our relationship. Besides I don’t want to anyway. Do you Dani?” He asked.

“No, it’s not a good idea. But isn’t she going to be pissed?” Asked Dani.

“She knows it’s been over between her and me a long time.” Said Sam.

“Ok but I don’t want a mess.” Said Dani.

“It wont be. Come on Gal and let’s get this into her office. She needs to have this post haste.” Said Sam as they walked to her office and he knocked.

“Come on in.” Said Cathrine. She was sitting at her desk as Sam and Dani came in with the new information.

“What did you find?” She asked.

“Forged Documents from Bob Watson. He was in with the Dixon boys.” Said Sam.

“What?” She asked looking at the forgeries. “How did you find this out?”

“It was something that Roger Dixon said before I killed him. He said that Bob Watson had commented on Dani here. He said that she was a looker and good enough to screw just once before he killed her.” Said Sam.

“He thought he had you and Dani that’s why he said that isn’t it?” She asked.

“Yes he didn’t plan on it making me go off the deep end and me shooting him. I’m afraid I did that. I did it because………”

“I know you love her.” Said Cathrine. “It’s ok Sam you told me it was over and me walking in on you and DanI in Madison brought it out in the open and I have had time to think on it and I’m glad you found someone to love.” Said Cathrine. “I’ll give this to the powers that be. It has to do with Ramos doesn’t it?” She asked eyeing the papers.

“Yes. Now I don’t know how these four people are in cahoots with each other but I’ll find out. You know I don’t stop until I find out everything. Dani is the same way.” Said Sam as Cathrine looked up.

“Ok, you and your team are still on this Sam. Just be careful.” Said Cathrine.

“Thanks and I am glad you are not mad.” Said Sam.

“Just go and find more things if you can. I will take this to my superiors.” Said Cathrine.

Sam and Dani walked out of her office. Sam let out a breath.

“Whew!” He said.

“Yeah you got that right Cowboy.” Said Dani.

“We just have to be careful and keep this as professional as we can. I don’t think that this is going to be a problem. Not on my end.” Said Sam.

“Mine either Sam.” Said Dani.

Dani sat on the sofa in her apartment. Sam was off somewhere. He said he had an errand to run in town. She sat watching one of the many action flicks she had. Her things were still in some boxes but the brunt of it was put up. She sipped a Diet Dr. Pepper. It was Saturday afternoon and it was her birthday. Sam came in the door.

"Hello there Gal." He said. "Happy Birthday!"

"Hello yourself Cowboy." She said tuning down the volume on the DVD player.

"It's your birthday and I just want you to know that I love you." He said bringing out a dozen yellow roses.

"Oh, Sam they are beautiful! You really shouldn't have! How did you know I loved yellow. Cosmo that goof" She said giving him a tight hug and a kiss.

"Well, my best gal is having a birthday today. She needs her favorite flower." Said Sam holding her.

"Thank you Sam. They are beautiful. It's been forever since I had flowers.?" Said Dani. She was touched at his sweetness. If you could really call it that.

"Well I just thought you deserved them with all the things we been though ." Said Sam smiling that she liked them.

"I have something to give you for your birthday." He said producing a long wooden box.

"Town my foot! Where did you go and what have you done?" Said Dani.

"Open it and see." Said Sam beaming.

She opened the box and it had a brand new Glock 26 gun in it. Dani's Beretta was fish food. They would never find it.

"I thought you might need a new one seeing the Beretta got lost in the drink." Said Sam.

"What a lovely gesture. I love it. Thank you Cowboy'" Said Dani hugging him and giving him a kiss, then checking the balance and weight.

"Well you do know tthe the Squad is having a party for you tonight at Emmits." Said Sam.

"No, I didn't really. Those guys." She said.

"Whatcha watchin'?" asked Sam sitting down next to her and putting his arm around her.

"Total Recall." Said Dani.

"Well we have some time before we go to Emmitt’s." Said Sam.

"You want to watch this?" She asked.

"Yeah, I like this one let's watch it." He said settling down next to her.

"Ok, if that is what you really want to do. I really like this one." Said Dani.

"Dani, you are going to change before we go. I need too also." He asked.

"I had planed to wear that little black number that you pulled out of my closet the other day." She said.

"You mean that little tiny dress with the slit and the fringe?" He asked.

"Yes. I mean that dress that I love and haven't worn in your presents before." She said.

"This should be some show. Mind if I watch?" Said Sam grinning.

"You! " She said. "It's not a contact sport." She said.

"I'll be the judge of that." He said. He was remembering all the mess they made getting down to bidness at the cabin as he called it.

"I love you Sam." She said plopping down on the couch.

"I love you Danielle Elizabeth." He said.

"You never called me that before?" She said.

"Well, there is a first time for everything." He said.

"You." She said tussling his hair.

Sam laughed. He thought she was the best thing going.

Dani dressed for the party. She wore the tiny silk file and black fringe dress she had had since Ramstal, Germany. It had slit in the side. It was short midway between her thigh and knee. She wore a pair of stilettos heels and she had really done herself up fixing her hair. She wanted to look nice as did Sam wearing a Charcoal gray pinstripe. They were a handsome couple. Dani wore her drop diamond necklace Ted Reeves had given her before she left Germany. She was putting on her lipstick when Sam knocked on the door. She walked to the door and opened it.

"What Sam, something out of place?" she said looking into the mirror near the door.

"Everything is fine Dani. You are really at drop dead gorgeous tonight Gal." He said almost as if he was in a dream.

"Hardly." She said shaking her head at her reflection in the mirror.

He came over to her. "Dani you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. What can I say to make you believe it?" He said taking hold of her shoulders and speaking softly to her.

"I suppose if you say I am then it's the truth. You have never lied to me." She said.

"No and I wont." He said. "If that wasn't fresh lipstick I would kiss you."

"It said it would not to come off." She said.

"Let's just see then." Said Sam.

He kissed her. Then he looked at the two of them in the mirror.

"You wont have to take it back Gal." Said Sam.

"No, I suppose not." She said.

"You ready?" said Sam.

"Always." She said getting her little black beaded bag and a black lace shawl.

"Striking is what I would call you." Said Sam looking at Dani and shaking his head.

"Well, you aren't so bad yourself. You handsome devil" Said Dani.

"So you know what I truly am, huh?" said Sam.

"The doubts been gone for awhile Sam." She said a little sarcastically with a smile.

"I must be true to my name then." He said. "But later."

Sam was happy that night to see her all made up like a woman. She was glowing. He was putting out light himself.

They walked into Emmitt’s to a roaring round of applause. Cosmo was so amazed at Dani he was sure he was catching flies again.

"Damn Dani, you look just beautiful tonight. The Squad has never seen you in a dress except for that little red number. Happy Birthday" Said Cosmo giving her a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you. Cosmo. It's good to see you here. You are my best friend. " She said.

"Well, you look lovely.aid aid Cathrine kissing her cheek. "Happy Birthday."

"Thanks, ya’ll shouldn't have gone to so much trouble." Dani said.

"You did do some really excellent work tracking those two Dixon brothers." Said Cathrine.

"Here Dani." Said Sam handing her a diet coke.

"Thanks." She said taking it from his hand.

Cosmo had a beer in his hand. He was still marveling at Dani. Cathrine had gone to the trouble of having a fructose cake made for Dani. She was really happy that Dani was here and that she fit so well into the Warrants Squad.

"Happy Birthday." Said Biggs giving her a small hug.

"Yes, Happy Birthday Dani." Said Cooper hugging her.

"Thanks, guys." Said Dani.

"Lets get this party started." Said Sam. "To Dani Little Elk, One of the very best. May she live a long life and a happy one. Happy Birthday."

"Here, Here." They said. "SPEECH! SPEECH!"

"Thank you, I really don't know what to say. Thank you everyone. Cathrine you are a true friend. So are you Savanna. Bobby you are really something else. Cosmo Darlin' you know how I feel about you . Sam what can I say." She couldn't say what was truly on her mind. "Thanks for all the support you have given me. You have surpassed all my Commanders thus far in your faith and friendship." She said lifting her glass to him.

"Thank you Miss Dani." He said. He knew she had to downplay their relationship.

"Now, LET"S PARTY!" She whooped.

A Whoop echoed through the bar.

"Dani I have a gift for you." said Cosmo handing her a long box.

"Cosmo, you shouldn't have." Said Dani opening it.

It was a dagger. To replace the one Ammad had given her. It was an old one. It was Spanish steel with an ebony handle inlaid with silver. Cosmo paid attention to detail. She had mentioned that she wanted to replace it.

"I don't quite understand?' She said. She hugged him.

"You said you wanted to replace the dagger Ammad gave you. I thought I might be the one to do that. Sam told me he got you something in that area too." Said Cosmo holding her.

"Yes. My Beretta got dropped in the drink. I got a Glock 26 this afternoon. You guys wanting me to have protection." She said kissing his cheek.

"I love you Dani. I always will. No matter what. I understand about ynd Snd Sam. That was coming." Said Cosmo with a certain sadness.

About that time Sam came over to Dani and Cosmo.

"Do you know how to salsa dance Dani?" asked Sam .

"Sure. Ted and I were base champs." Said Dani.

"Let's go." Said Sam taking her hand and leading her to the dance floor. &#P>

Biggs went and put on "MARIA" by Ricky Martin. It was fast and powerful. He and Dani were tearing up the dance flooalsaalsa dancing intermixes rumba, tango and other Latin dances. He twirled her several times. And as she moved Cosmo couldn't believe it. She was a really wonderful dancer. He vowed to himself that he would have her teach him. He surmised too that it was mostly Dani doing the work again but Sam had to know the steps and holds. He had to know were to sling her so to speak. They dance ended in a deep and from the looks of it passionate dip. Cosmo was happy for them although he was sad for himself, there wouldn't be another woman like her for him but he loved both of them and they looked good together.

They left the dance floor to a round of applause.

"Boy! Am I rusty." Said Dani.

"That was beautiful!" said Cathrine applauding.

"Thanks. Ted Reeves and I were in some ballroom stuff in Ramstal, Germany." Said Dani.

"Your look out of breath." Said Cosmo. "You really can dance Dani. Will you teach me?"

"Sure, I told you that I would. Let me catch my breath and I will teach you an easy one." Said Dani.

"Not tonight?" He said.

"Yes. TONIGHT Cosmo." Said Dani.

"Ok, I will make a jack ass out of myself." He said.

"No you wont you picked up the line dance just fine, you have a hidden talent Cosmo." She said.

"You." He said.

True to her word she hauled him out on the dance floor. Biggs put on a slower rumba. She put her hand out and they started to move. She lead of course. It was pretty easy, he was picking it up. Soon he was leading her, himself. He smiled at her. He was quite proud of himself.

"This is fun." Said Cosmo.

"Sure it is. You can do anything you put your mind too." She said.

"I never knew I could till you came around Dani, I didn't have the guts." Said Cosmo.

"You always had it. I only brought it to the surface, Darlin'." She said.

Another song came on and it was a quick one.

. "Want to try another salsa?" asked Sam.

"Sure, Cosmo is it ok." Said Dani. She was having a ball.

"Ok with me. I want to learn it so I will watch." He said going to sit down.

"Put on La Vida Loca." Said Dani.

"Sure." Said Biggs.

The music started It was a fast one. Sam and Dani were marvelous together. Cosmo listen to the music and thoughat iat is Dani. She had a La Vida Loca of her own. When the song ended Dani came over and sat down.

"I think that is it for tonight. I haven't done this in awhile. " She said.

"That was marvelous Dani." Said Cathrine.

"Thanks. I love to dance. Sam does dance marvelously doesn't he." Said Dani still out of breath.

"I was hoping to hear you sing tonight." Said Cosmo.

"Aw, Well I can just give me a few minutes." Said Dani taking a sip of diet Coke.

"Dani I have another gift for you." Said Sam puling out an envelope.

"What have you done Sam? The gun was enough" She said smiling.

Dani opened the card. It had HAPPY BIRHDAY DANI Regards and best wishes. Love always, Sam in it and a business card. Richard Kimble Vascular Surgery. On it. Dani looked at it and said.

"Sam who is this?" Asked Dani with an odd look on her face.

"He's a friend of mine the one who has a friend that can fix the scars. He was accused of killing his wife and the Warrants Squad went after him. He was innocent and we helped him prove it. He said he owed me and I collected." Said Sam.

"But I don't have the money to pay for it.” She said.

"Don't need any. I told you it was a favor. It's all set up. Monday you, me and Cosmo will go and see him and his buddy." Said Sam.

Dani was stunned. She began to cry.

"Dani, no need for that. I just want you to be whole again. No woman as beautiful as you should have to continue to bare those scars." He said. “Mind you this is for you not for me. I don’t care about them and I don’t see them. But it gives you pain and makes you do what is not in your nature to do. I want that stopped and I have a way provided to do so.”

She was crying harder. She got up and went over to Sam. She put her arms around him and hugged him. He returned the hug and she kissed his cheek.

"You don't have any idea what this will mean to me Sam. I will be normal again." She said looking up at him and talking quietly.

"I know Miss Dani. That is why I did it. I love you." He said as he whispered in her ear and he meant it.

Cathrine got up and hugged her too.

"You are the best friends I ever had." She said.

The rest of the squad joined them and it became a group huven ven Biggs was touched by the gesture.

"See Dani we really are a family." Said Cosmo.

"Yeah. Cosmo I know." Said Dani kissing him.

"Well Miss Dani why don't you go and sing for us." Said Sam.

"Why do you call me that?" she asked Sam.

"It's a southern mark of respect and admiration. I guess in South Dallas they don't do that." said Sam smiling at her.

"No they don't Sam." She said. "Thank you so much. That is not enough I know but I really am flustered right now."

"To see you happy and whole is enough Dani." He said.

She smiled at him.

"Dani you need to check your mascara." Said Cooper.

"Thanks Savanna." She said.

Dani stole a look. She wiped her eyes a little with a tissue.

"Sing Dani." Said Cathrine.

"Sure 'nough." She said.

Dani got on the makeshift stage and went to the key board. She knew how to play her teacher in high school had gotten her lessons. He had seen the promise Dani had.

"Just the Way You Are." She said. A Billy Joel song.

She began the song and it was though she was singing to Sam without anyone really knowing. Her life the way it was, was over. She had good faithful friends and a man that were completely crazy about her. Dani had been blessed that night. She was seeing things though new and wonderful eyes. She was really getting good at this singing thing. When she finished the whole bar reverberated in applause. Sam knew she meant the words. He knew that she returned his love.

"That was lovely Dani." Said Sam.

"I meant it Sam." She said to him in his ear.

"Miss Dani, you are one special woman." He said. Smiling and knowing that it was meant for him

Cathrine had brought a camera and took pictures. She caught Cosmo clowning around and took a picture of the squad. She even took a picture of Dani and Sam together. The first one.

It was way passed two when Sam and Dani got back to her place.

"That was fun. I haven't had that much fun in quite a while." Said Dani plopping down on the couch and rubbing her soar feet.

"Me"Me either. We had a ball didn't we." He said.

"My feet are killing me." She said looking at them. “Yes, It’s been quite a night.”

"Well prop them up here and I will ease the pain a little. I'll get you fit as a fiddle in no time." He said.

"That is what I'm afraid of." She said letting him have her feet.

He cracked his knuckles and began to work on her feet. Sam was good at that. Dani had marveled at his ability to take the pain right out.

"You should have been a massage therapist." She said.

"Grandma would have had a conniption fit if I had." He said.

"My goodness that feels good." She said moaning and oohing a little.

"Well, I try to please." He said.

"Just watch those hands mister." She said giggling. Sam was messing with more than her feet.

"I'm watching all right." He said in a lecherous tone.

"Sam!" she said taking her feet off of his lap.

"What ! What did I do?" He asked innocently.

"We should get to bed. It's so late." She said yawning.

"Good idea." Said Sam. "But I wasn't suggesting it."

"Liar!" She Said.

"Dani I almost forgot to tell you I had the binoculars at the sting I saw that bend down." Said Sam. "That reminds me Gal, don't do that in that dress again. It causes the men folk a lot of grief." He said smiling remembering the scene.

"Damn, I had no idea I did that." She said blushing.

"No need to blush. But I sure haven't gotten over it. Could cause me a coronary" He said clutching his chest.

"You! You are the worlds worst." She said.

"I know." He said.

"Sam! Will I have to get out that leash and muzzle for you?" Said Dani.

"Wont fit Miss Dani, remember I am the big dog. I hope you had a nice birthday." He said.

"More like the big wolf. Yes. It was wonderful. You know you are giving me my life back?" She said.

"No more than you have given me, Miss Dani." Said Sam reverently. “Life begins at 40.”

"It was fun." Said Dani about the party. “I sure hope so.”

"Good that is what it should be." He said.

"Let's go on to bed I am beat." She said.

"I'm game if are are?" Said Sam smiling at her.

"I'll be the judge of that. You are pretty gamy at that Sam." She said coming over to him and getting a hold of his tie.

"What are you up to Dani." Said Sam.

"You look marvelous tonight. That is a beautiful suit. You really went all out for me. You really look handsome tonight." She said.

"That is a guys line. Where is this going Dani." Said Sam knowing full well he would be spending the night.

"Where would you like it to go?" Said Dani yanking the tie like a leash.

"You want me to stay don't you." Said Sam smiling widely not noticing the yank that much.

"Yes and sleeping on that couch is not an option." She said doing it again.

Sam looked at her for a moment. She had said that she wanted him in a off hand Dani way.

"I love you Dani. " Said Sam. "That is a promise."

"I know. I hmy omy own promise to keep for you Cowboy." She said as they bent into a kiss.

"Dani I wont tie you down. I promise. " Said Sam.

"What if I want to be tied down? I never had a Marshal do that." She said goofing around a little. She said as she put out her hand and lead hnto nto her bedroom.

Dani had made mistakes in love but this wasn't one of them. As they kissed standing up near her bed she knew that it would be fire again, molten lava. She was not disappointed at all, but this time it was done out of love. This time had not lost any of the heat it was just they knew they were in love. The kissing and caressing lasted for the longest time. She felt whole again. This was love and sex not just sex. Sometimes the two become tangled and you see one and not the other.

Dani knew that what he was doing was out of love. It was gentler, less rushed and better than the last time. He stayed the night with her. When they finally consummated the act it was like the very breath she had, had been taken from her. She had never before or would ever feel like she did with him. It was in her head and in her heart. He was in her head and her heart.

As they finished the act. She rolled to her side and cried. It was an emotional act. She cried because she had never felt like this before.

"What is it Dani?" Saam.

"Love, it was love." She managed.

"Of course it was. I wont lie to you. Why are you crying did I do something wrong?" He asked.

"Yes and no. Yes you did something. No it wasn't a bad thing. You released me. You gave me back my breath. You gave me the since of being loved and making love. I have never felt like that before." She said.

"Dani I suppose it was time for you to feel like that. I am glad it was me that was able to give it to you. There are no strings Gal. Don't worry yourself about that." He said.

"What a gift. The gift of true love. I have never had it before. You gave me that Sam." Said Dani.

"I am glad Gal." He said as he took her into his arms.

"You area wonderful man." Said Dani touching his face.

"You think so?" said Sam.

"I know so Sam.'" She said as she kissed him.

"Let's get some sleep Dani." Said Sam.

"You want to stay?" Asked Dani.

"If you want me too." Said Sam.

"Of course I do." She said setting down with him.

"Good, cause I want to stay." Said Sam tightening his hold on her.

"That feels good. You feel good." Said Dani.

"I have always felt good about you." Said Sam kissing the side of her neck.

The next morning they woke up and at the same time smiled at each other.

"how how do you feel this fine morning Miss Dani?" Asked Sam.

"Fine with the morning." Said Dani. "Fine with you. What would you like to do today?"

"I can think of a few things off hand." Said Sam pulling the comforter over them.

After they had a wonderful morning Sam wanted her to meet his Grandmother.

"Dani would you like to meet Grandma?" asked Sam.

"If you want me to?" Said Dani. "She must be real special."

"She is Dani. She is were I get the Indian from. She's full blood something." Said Sam.

"We can ask her? Is she with it?" said Dani.

"With it aint the right word. Her mind is as sharp as a damn tack." said Sam.

"Good. Let's go." Said Dani.

They drove to the nursing home. Sam had brought her up to the Chicago . He. He was the only one who cared about her enough to take care of herey eey entered the nursing home and there she was playing dominoes. Beating the daylights out of the rest of them.

"Sam, I was wondering when I was gonna see you again." said Phillpa Gerard.

"Grandma, I want you to meet someone special to me. This is Dani Little Elk." Sam said introducing Dani to her.

Dani downdown next to her. She was in a wheel chair.

"Pleased to meet you Mrs. Gerard." Said Dani sweetly.

"My, this is a surprise Sam. She is beautiful. She your girlfriend?" Grandma asked.

"Of sorts Grandma. She is half Cherokee Indian." Said Sam proudly.

"Well, Well. Seems like we have a tribe in common." said Grandma smiling.

"You are Cherokee?" asked Dani.

"Yes. Sam forgets. My, my you are a pretty little thing." Said the old woman touching Dani's face.

Dani looked at the old woman. Sam had her eyes. Those timeless, ageless eyes. She seemed happy to meet her.

"Call me Grandma. I would like for you too." said Grandma.

"Sure, I am Dani." said Dani.

They went to her room and the three talked.

"Sam tells me you raised him. He is a fine man. You did a wonderful job." said Dani.

"Why thank you dear. Not only beautiful but sweet and smart too. Sam where artharth did you find her?" asked Grandma.

"She's one of my kids. She's a Marshal too." said Sam.

"I see. You are quite a bit younger than my Grandson." said Grandma taking inspection.

"That doesn't matter Ma'am." said Dani.

"No, I suppose it don't. Sam's Grandpa was 14 years older than me. We were married 41 years when he died." Said Grandma.

Sam told his Grandmother about Dani. She was impressed. In her room were pictures of Sam as a kid and of her son Sam's father, Gerald. Sam looked like his father a lot. There were pictures of Jamie, her great grandson. Dani looked at them. There wasn't much difference in Sam and Jamie at 20 something. It had been a nice visit. They stayed most of the afternoon. Grandma made Sam promise to bring her back to visit. She kissed Dani's cheek as they left.

"Samuel Phillip, you bring this gal back to see me you hear. Or it is the Woodshed for you." said Grandma as Dani hugged her.

"So that is were the woodshed came from?" said Dani. "Samuel Phillip?

"There was a wood shed and Grandma took me there a lot over the years." said Sam hugging his grandmother. "Good bye Grandma. I love you.”

"I love you too Sam. Be happy." Said Grandma smiling.

"Samuel Phillip? Who is Phillip?"ed Ded Dani.

"Grandma's names is Samantha Phillpa Gerard." said Sam a little embarrassed.

"That is a nice name. So you have her with you always." said Dani.

"You like Grandma." Said Sam. "I know she liked you."

"What's not to like you are like her. She is a pistol. I know where that comes from now." said Dani.

Sam shook his head. He was glad they liked each other.

Monday morning Cosmo and Dani went to pick up Sam. It was a cold bright day.

"Morning." Said Sam.

"Morning." Said Cosmo and Dani in unison.

Dani got in the back seat so Sam could sit in the front.

"I really do like this car. I enjoyed driving it when I got the chance." Said Sam.

"I have had it a really long time Sam." Said Dani, "Thanks so much for doing this."

"My pleasure." Said Sam.

They drove to Dr. Richard Kimble's office in the Cook County Hospital. Dani was nervous. She hoped that she would be able to get rid of the scars. Cosmo was hoping just as much as well as Sam.

They knocked on his office door. There was no waiting room. He was chief of staff now.

"Come in." Said A man's v.

The three of them went inside. Dani holding Cosmo's and Sam's hands.

"Hello Richard." Said Sam as the men shook hands.

"Been awhile Sam. Good to see you." Said Kimble smiling.

"This is Dani Little Elk. You remember Cosmo." Said Sam introducing them.

"How are you Cosmo." He said shaking hands with him.

"Great." Said Cosmo.

"So this is Miss Little Elk. Sam speaks very highly of you. It is a pleasure." Said Kimble.

"The pleasure is mine." She said giving a firm handshake.

"My colleague will be here shortly. This is not my forte. However, he is in the top 10 in his field." Said Kimble.

A knock came on the door.

"Richard here are the pathology reports on Irene Hudson. Oh, will we be eating out tonight or at home Dear." Said a pretty blonde doctor.

"Kathy this is Sam Gerard, Dani Little Elk and Cosmo Renfro." He said introducing her to them.

"A pleasure." She said. The woman looked about ready to deliver a child.

"That's right you don't know. Kathy Wohland and I got married about 4 years ago. We have a two year old son and one on the way as you can see." Said Kimble hugging his very pregnant wife.

"Congratulations Doc. You earned it." Said Cosmo.

Another knock came on the door and it was Dr. James Everson.

"James come on in while there is still room." Said Kimble.

"Hello Cosmo." Said Everson.

"Hey Doc." Said Cosmo.

"You healed up well. I did a good job on your head and chin." Said Everson taking a look at his handy work.

"Sure did. I hope you can do the same with Dani." Said Cosmo.

"What is this about?" Asked Dani.

"I was beamed in the head with a laundry rack. It was a big I beam. I had to have some plastic surgery to fix it. Dr. Nichols the one who set Dr. Kimble up knocked me out with it." Said Cosmo.

"So that is what is wrong with you. Dr. Everson did you put all of his brains back in when you got done?" said Dani smirking a little.

"I think so. One can never tell. Has he been acting funny?" Asked Dr Everson. Jokingly of course.

"Dani!" Said Cosmo.

"Dani he has always been like that. As long as I have known him." Said Sam.

"Let's get to the business at hand. I will see you tonight dear." Said Kimble kissing his wife.

"Good luck to you Dani." Said Kathy patting Dani‘s shoulder.

"You too. " said Dani.

"Sam says you are wanting some scar tissue to be removed and it is bad." Said Everson.

"Yes. It happened when I was held prisoner in Iraq. In '91." She said.

"Well let's see what we can do." Said Everson.

He lead them to an exam room and told Dani to put on a gown. Dani was going to be alone and Sam asked if she wanted him to stay and she said yes. Cosmo was leaving.

"Cosmo you stay too. " Said Dani.

"No, I don't want to embarrass you." He said.

"I'm not embarrassed." She said.

"Alright. I will sit here." He said taking a seat.

Dani got undressed in a dressing room. And came out in the hospital gown and her underwear. She lay down on the exam table. Sam held her hand.

"Be prepared . They're bad." Said Sam. Cosmo sat out of sight.

"I know." said the doctor.

He pushed up the gown to reveal the scars. They were deep. But he smiled.

"Dani I can fix these easy. You will be in day surgery. It will be like you never had them. I promise." Said Everson.

"Cosmo look." She said.

Cosmo was trying not to pry it was an uncomfortable situation but she wanted him there. Cosmo came over and Sam nodded for him to go ahead.

He looked at her. His heart sank when he saw them, it was the first time he had really looked at them. There was a bullet hole visible covered with scar tissue and deep whip marks. He thought of the pain and anguish all this time had caused her. He was glad Sam was going to help her fix the scars. Now she would be able to live a normal life. Even with the scars she was magnificent.

"I am so sorry Dani." Said Cosmo gripping her hand. "You have suffered enough."

"They will be gone soon." She said smiling at him.

"Tomorrow if you like." Said the doctor.

"Tomorrow, really?" Said Dani excited.

"Yes. Tomorrow at 7:30am." Said the doctor.

Sam covered her up with the gown and stepped out of the room. He went down the hall to the men's room and splashed some cool water on his face. He looked into the mirror. Cosmo was standing there.

"She's beautiful isn't she, even with sca scars." Said Cosmo.

"Yes. She is. Magnificent." Said Sam.

"She is." Said Cosmo.

"Where are you headed with this line of questioning Marshal." Said Sam.

"Nothing. I just wanted you to know that I know how you were feeling when you saw her." He said. "It's ok Sam. Dani is magnificent."&#P> "I love her man." Said Sam.

"We would make a hell of a triangle wouldn't we Sam?" Asked Cosmo. "Just remember that you and I are friends and Dani is the glue."

"How's that?" Asked Sam.

"Well she is a rock and a hard place. I think I said that right." Said Cosmo.

"It's between a rock and a hard place and that my friend is what she is. A damned if you do or don't." Said Sam.

"We both want her. I don't want to loose either one of you." Said Sam.

"What about Cathrine? I don't want her that way, really Sam." Asked Cosmo but the second part he was lying about.

"It's been over for awhile Cosmo." said Sam.

"Thanks Sammy. This means a lot to her and to me too. That you did this for her." Said Cosmo.

"You know why I'm doing this?" Sam Asked.

"Yes I do. You love her and you want her to be whole. I want the same thing. I couldn't have arranged this. You were the only one who could." Said Cosmo holding out his hand.

"You know that wont do man. How long we been friends anyway?" Said Sam.

"Going on two decades. I think wasn't it '88 or' 89." Said Cosmo.

"I don't know." Said Sam giving Cosmo a guy hug.

"Better be careful Sammy, if someone comes in what the hell are they gonna think?" said Cosmo releasing his friend.

"I think we did that just in time." He said as another man came in.

"Let's get Dani registered and the lab work done." Said Sam.

"At least she has two men whve hve her." Said Cosmo.

"You are a nut, what would she do with us both." Said Sam laughing.

"I don't know, but I bet she would figure it out. You know how our Dani is. She can do anything. Just kidding, really." Said Cosmo joking.

"Man she is right you are warped." Said Sam.

"Just doing what I do best. Observing." Said Cosmo cracking one of his contagious smiles.

Dani had the surgery the next day. The whole Squad waited for the news.

"Sam, we did it. It's over, James did a terrific job. It will be like it never happened." Said Kimble stepping into the waiting room.

"Terrific." Said Sam.

"That's great." Said Cosmo.

"Now she can wear a bikini." Said Big/P>

"Shut up Biggs." Said Cooper.

"Anyway she will be coming out of the Anesthetic soon. Sam do you and Cosmo want to see her?" Said Kimble.

"Sure. When?" said Cosmo.

"In a few minutes we need to take her to her room. Follow me, we will follow her up." Said Kimble.

"Thank you Richard." Said Sam extending his hand to the man he had once hunted.

"It was a pleasure. I owed you. It was nice that you gave the favor to someone else. She needed it. She is a lovely, sweet woman." Said Kimble smiling and returning the handshake.

"That she is." Said Sam.

"When is she going to get to go home?" said Cosmo.

"Well, I spoke too soon about day surgery. Her blood sugar rose a bit but it is coming down. I would say tomorrow morning." Said Kimble ushering them into the recovery room. Dani lay still out from the anesthetic. She was sleeping.

"She is lovely ." Said Kimble. "She will be able to do anything she wants now. Wear anything she wants."

That's great Doc. Thanks." Said Cosmo extending his hand now and shaking Kimble’s hand.

"She is beautiful." Said Sam.

"That is putting it mildly." Said Cosmo.

Dani was coming around.

"Sam, Cosmo are you here?" She asked.

"We are right here Angel." Said Cosmo.

"Th. Fo. For being here. I love you both." Said Dani.

"We love you too, Gal." Said Sam.

"Dr. Kimble?" Said Dani.

"Yes. Dani?" Said Kimball.

"I want to thank you so much for this." She said grabbing his hand. He bent down and she kissed his bearded cheek.

"My pleasure Dani. Get some rest. From the looks of it you will need it." Said Kimble eyeing the men thinking she was in love with them both.

"Sam come here." Dani beckoned.

Sam got closer.

"Thank you Sam. You are the best. I love you." She said as he bent and kissed her forehead.

"It was nothing Miss Dani. I love you too. " He said patting her head and smiling.

Dani went home the next day. Cosmo and Sam in tow. They let Cosmo off at his place.

"If you need anything call, you know that by now." Said Cosmo.

"Thanks again Cosmo for being t." ." Said Dani.

"You earned it. You saved Sammy's ass. I'm glad you will be free of the scars." Said Cosmo.

Dani smiled and hugged him.

"You two be good. Get outta here." Said Cosmo slamming the door to the Mustang closed. He waved as they drove off.

"Dani shall we go home?" Said Sam.

"We shall." She said smiling.

It was near Thanksgiving when they got another case. Sam and Dani hadn't made any plans. Dani was almost healed. Dani blossomed after the surgery. She was almost a different person but not really. She was a lot happier, more Dani. Sam would think she was thanking him every day with the way she smiled. It almost outshined the contagious grin Cosmo was giving out daily, because she was whole.

Sam called a conference for Friday. This was Tuesday night. Dani was sitting on Sam's sofa. He was getting them something to drink. The phone rang. Dani answered it.

"Gerard Residence?" Said Dani into the phone. A young man was on the other line.

"This Sam Gerard's place?" Said the young man. There was a familiar hint in his voice.

"Yes." She said.

"Is my dad there?" Asked the young man.

"Sure, just a moment." Said Dani

Dani handed Sam the phone.

"It's your son." Said Dani.

"Jamie, how are you son?" He asked.

"Fine Dad. Who was that, she sounds sexy?" Said Jamie.

"I was meaning to call you about that, son. That's Dani Little Elk. She's my girlfriend." Said Sam hoping he would be pleased.

"She sure sounds hot dad. I want to meet her." Said Jamie. "I thought I might come for Thanksgiving tomorrow and stay a few."

"Good it's been awhile since I got to see you." Said Sam.

"How long you known her. What's she like?" Said Jamie.

"Since August. It just got serious. Dani is… Well you will have to see for yourself. It's hard to describe her." Said Sam looking over at Dani. "She met Grandma. She approved."

"I will get on a plane in the morning. Can you or someone pick me up?" Said Jamie. "I want to see Grandma while I am up."

"We will come. Nothing is breaking yet." Said Sam.

"She isn't like Cathrine is she?" Said Jamie.

"No, not at all. I know you and Cathrine didn't get along." Said Sam to Dani's surprise.

"I hope not Dad. I just want you to be happy for once. You deserve that. Mom is happy. It's your turn." Said Jamie.

"See you tomorrow. Will you call me and tell me when to expect you?" Said Sam.

"Sure thing Dad. I can't wait to meet this mystery woman." Said Jamie.

"Well you are right about that Son. She is a mystery." Said Sam smiling at Dani.

Sam hung up the phone.

"He's coming tomorrow. He wants to meet you." Said Sam.

"Sam, I'm nervous. The man is your son after all. I am only 14 years older than him." Said Dani.

"Don't be, he's a good kid. He will like you. You know I do." Said Sam.

"I thought you loved me?" Said Dani.

"I do. But I like you too. We get along very well. I think." Said Sam.

"Yes we do Sam." She said. He had just given her an extreme compliment.

The next day Dani had a case of butterflies to beat the band. Jamie had called he would be in at noon. They went to the airport. Standing at the gate stood a handsome young man that might have passed for Sam in his younger days. He only had a hint of his mother in him physically. He sm and and waved. He was a bit taller than Sam.

"Hey Dad!" Yelled Jamie.

Sam waved. Dani swallowed hard. Sam took her hand and they walked half way to meet him.

Jamie hugged his dad. He looked at Dani and smiled. She was a real babe he thought.

"Jamie this is Dani Little Elk." Said Sam. "Dani this is my son Jamie."

"Pleased to meet you Jamie." Said Dani sweetly offering him her hand.

"Same here." Said Jamie looking her over. "Dad you didn't warn me how beautiful she is."

"I thought you had to see that for yourself son." Said Sam smiling.

"Your right about one thing Dad, she isn't like Cathrine." Said Jamie.

"No, she's not Jamie." Said Sam.

The three of them went to lunch and talked. Jamie was glad his father had a woman like her. She told him a little about herself and he was impressed.

"So Dad are you two living together?" said Jamie right out of the blue.

"No, you know how I feel about that." Said Sam.

"Dad doesn't go in for living in sin. As he puts it." Said Jamie.

"I don't rightly either." Said Dani.

"What part of the great state of Texas are you from?" Asked Jamie.

"Dallas." She answered. By now the butterflies were dissipating. He was a real nice young man. Dani really liked him. He was so much like his father without the rough edges. But that is what she truly loved about Sam. They all went to visit Grandma. She was overjoyed to see Jamie and Dani.

Dani made Thanksgiving dinner at Sam's. She was cooking and watching the Cowboys play on the small TV in the kitchen. She whooped and hollered at the game.

"Dani likes sports?" said Jamie.

"She likes a lot of things. Sports is one." Said Sam to his son.

"She's a babe." Said Jamie.

"Now son, wait yes, she is. I never saw her as such. But your observation is right. Dani is beautiful." Said Sam taking a swig of beer.

"Dad are you going to marry her?" Asked Jamie.

"I don't know Jamie. I hadn't planned on doing that again." Said Sam.

"I think you would be real happy with her. You might even have a brother or sister for me to terrorize." Said Jamie.

"I'm too damn old for diapers. She said she doesn't want kids. She's 36 and thinks she's too old too. She doesn't want to get married." Said Sam.

"Well I think you two should think about that Dad. She's really something. I like her. She's good for you. She in the Warrants Squad?" Said Jamie.

"Yes. She replaced Noah. Rather she made her own way." Said Sam.

"Somehow I knew that. Dani would make a place for herself just about anywhere." Said Jamie.

"You really like her don't you. You're not pulling my leg are you?" Said Sam.

"No, I reallynk ynk you ought to marry her. Be happy and if kids come then just let it happen." Said Jamie.

"Is that what my money is buying at A and M?" Said Sam.

"No Dad. I just think you and Dani look real good together. Forget the age difference. Forget what happened to you and mom. This one is a keeper." Said Jamie smiling at his dad.

Sam smiled back at his son. He was a good kid. He had really said what Sam was already thinking. Hearing that his son liked Dani was a relief and a way to put a plan into the mix. Sam was forming an idea. The idea he wanted her forever. That she was more than right for him. Now, if she would just relent and marry him. Dani smiled from the kitchen. Jamie went to help her.

"You know Dani. I like you. Your good for my Dad. I have never seen him this happy." Said Jamie. He was playing Devil's Advocate for his dad. Not even being asked to do so.

"Thanks, I like you too, Jamie." She said.

"If you and my Dad want to get married it's more than fine with me. You are a real surprise Dani." Said Jamie taking down the plates.

"I don't think that is what we have in mind Jamie. I don’t want to get married. I don't want kids of my own." Said Dani.

"My Dad told me you didn't. Just that if you ever change your mind it's ok with me." He said.

Jamie had started something in both Sam and Dani that night. They ate the wonderful meal she prepared.

"Say this is almost as good as Grandma's." Said Jamie.

"Thanks." Said Dani. She realized that was a big compliment.

"Your right son. This is delicious. I wish we had more time to spend together. We may have another case waiting tomorrow." Said Sam.

"That's fine Dad. I have to go tomorrow anyway. Mom is having Thanksgiving tomorrow" Said Jamie. "One of her fancy parties . As usual."

"How is she?" said Sam.

"Fine. Lily and Shane are fine too." Said Jamie.

"Lily and Shane are her kids by Matthew Hughit. She remarried soon after the divorce a year I think." Said Sam.

"Mom was fooling around on Dad while he was off in the Army. That is why they divorced." Said Jamie takanotanother bite of turkey.

Sam was a little embarrassed. He hadn't planned on telling Dani that so soon.

"It happens in the military Sam. I see that look. Don't worry." Said Dani understanding.

"So you were in the Air Force." Said Jamie.

"Yes. for 20 yearsSaidSaid Dani.

Sam soften when her heard her blow it off. She understood.

"So you and Dad have a lot in common. Good." Said Jamie still trying to play matchmaker.

"We think so." Said Dani.

Jamie looked at the sweet woman his Dad had found. He was glad for both of them. He wanted to see them get married. He would do his best to make it happen.

Dani left so Sam and Jamie could have some time together.

"I'll call you later Gal." Said Sam.

"You don't have to leave on my account." Said Jamie.

\ and and your dad need time alone. I can go back to the apartment and catch up on a romance novel. I'll see ya later Cowboy." Said Dani.

Sam kissed her as she left. Jamie smiled and got up.

"It really was wonderful meeting you Dani. I hope I will see you again soon." Said Jamie.

"I hope I see you too, Jamie. I hope we can be friends." Said Dani putting out her hand.

"That wont do Dani." He said giving her a short hug. It shocked her a little. She patted his back.

"Quit hitting on my girlfriend." Said Sam joking.

"You got a little sister?" He asked.

"No, sorry two big brother." Said Dani.

"Shoot. I was hoping to snag one like dear ole dad." Said Jamie joking.

She gave both men a sweet smile and left the apartment.

When she got home Cosmo was just getting out of his car.

"Hey Angel, where's the big dog?" Said Cosmo.

"Jamie is in town and I wanted to give them time alone for awhile." Said Dani hugging Cosmo.

"It's been awhile since you and I had a bull session. Care to spend some time with your best bud." Said Cosmo flashing her a grin and hugging her.

"Sure, It has been a long time hasn't it. I have missed you Cosmo. What ever happens to me and Sam I want you to know that I still want you in my life." Said Dani taking his hand.

"Me too, Angel. It doesn't matter to me that we never did that. I must confess that I always felt a little funny trying. You are like a little sister to me. I don't think you and me were meant for that." Said Cosmo and he meant it.

"I didn't think you wanted me?" Said Dani.

"It wasn't that Angel. It was just really WRONG. To begin with." Said Cosmo but he was lying a bit.

"I'm not your type huh?" Said Dani.

"That's not it either. I really can't explain it. I musta lost my mind somewhere." Said Cosmo looking at her and hitting the side of his head with his hand.

"You are a warped man. But I do love you. I don't want to take that back. I do mean it. It's just different." Said Dani trying hard not to be inconsiderate. She really did love him.

"Sure I know. That is what I was trying to say all along. Say, Ma sent you some old dresses. She was cleaning out the attic and found some." He said.

"How'd she know I like old clothes Cosmo?" Asked Dani with surprise.

"I told her." He said opening his trunk. The light came on revealing about 20 of them.

"Cosmo I can't take these. What about your sisters?" She said.

"Ma said these come from the best places in Chicago. Maybe you can use them in a sting or party." he said. "The girls wanted you to have them."

"Thank you." Said Dani excited she hugged Cosmo.

"Let's get them inside, it's freezing out here. Maybe you can give me a fashion show Huh?" He said.

"Sure 'nough." She said and they took the clothes inside her apartment.

Dani looked through the many dresses. She found a lovely long red velvet sheath. With a small slit in the side. Gina and she were about the same height. She went in the bedroom slipped off her clothes and put on the long velvet sheath. It was like the one Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast At Tiffany's except it was red velvet. She found gloves and shoes to match. Dani stood in the door with that lovely figure and Cosmo gasped.

"Dani you are lovely. They fit don't they?" Said Cosmo smoking another cigar and smiling at her.

Dant a t a rhinestone bracelet on her right hand and some drop earrings with it.

"You , I need my Ray Band's. She said putting her hand over her eyes to fake blindness.

"You should have been a model Dani." Said Cosmo still in amazement.

"I never thought I was pretty enough." Said Dani.

"You are beautiful Angel" Said Cosmo. "I mean that."

"Aw, thanks." Said Dani blushing a bit.

"Dani go and try another one." Urged Cosmo.

"Sure. " She said going back into her bedroom.

Dani looked thought the dresses and found a what they call mermaid style dress. It was turquoise satin and winter white lace covering it. It fit snuggly to her curves. There was net under the material around her thighs. She found a pair of silver slings with opened toe and a rhinestone clips. She put it on and went into the living room.

Dani came into the living room and twirled around.

"This just gets better and better." Said Cosmo who had relight the cigar. “Turn around again." Said Cosmo looking her over.

She did.

"It'll do. Now go get another one on." He said smiling.

"You!" She said.

She tried on all the dresses and found they were about twenty in all. The shoes were in another box. She got to the bottom and reached for the small undergarments. She could fix what was bad. She had an old portable Singer handy that she bought atantiantique e.

Cosmo and Dani had a wonderful evening and he left before he was asked to. It would be ok. Cosmo was just glad she still wanted him in her life. Good friends were hard to find. She was one of the best he had including Sam.

"Good night Angel." Said Cosmo.

"Good night and thanks for the dresses." She said hugging him.

They gave each other a small peck on the lips and he smiled and left for his place.

Friday morning the Squad was in the conference room again.

"Morning kids. We have another case. Two Marshals were killed in Dallas over the Thanksgiving break. One was from the Chicago Bureau .They were involved in a sting to catch the Ramos Drug Cartel. There is an American boss in this. He is in Dallas. His name is Mr. Henry. We haven't been able to catch a glimpse of him yet. He avoids Cameras. However. One of the couriers that transport the drugs was caught yesterday here at O'Hare and is singing like a bird. We offered him immunity in this. We think we might have gotten a good picture of him on surveillance cameras. Cathrine is securing them now." Said Sam.

"It was in Dallas?" Asked Dani.

"Yes. The Marshals were Jim Daley and Marcus Ward." Said Sam.

"I knew both and they were good Marshals. Had at least 15 years each. Whoever did it was crafty and dangerous." She said. “Wasn’t Jim was from the Cgo bgo bureau?”

“That’s why we got called in on this.’’ Said Sam.

Cathrine came in about that time.

"I have the tapes Sam." Said Cathrine.

"Good let's go see what this man looks like. Has he been ID ed?" said Sam.

"Yes. Juan Ramirez ID ed him As to the fact this man is Mr. Henry." Said Cathrine.

They all followed her to the media room. Carla loaded up the video and got to the part were the guy was. Dani began to cough.

"Excuse me, I need some water. Allergies." Said Dani. She left the room. Carla further cleaned the image and there he was. A tall handsome American Indian or Hispanic man in his late forties. Cosmo looked closer.

"Sam I know who he is." Said Cosmo. "Shit Dani."

"Well are you going to leave us dangling Cosmo?' Asked Sam.

"That is Henry Little Elk. Dani's sleazy lawyer brother. I'd know him anywhere. She a p a picture of her family on the TV at her apartment and he is in it. I see it every time I go over there." Said Cosmo.

"So whassup." Said Dani coming into the room with a glass of water.

"Sit down Angel." Said Cosmo in a concerned tone.

"What Cosmo?" She said then she looked at the screen.. "What is Henry doing up there?"

"Hold on to your ass Dani. That is Mr. Henry." Said Cosmo quickly.

Dani looked at the screen and blinked. Big tears started to form in her light brown eyes. She covered her face with her hands and started to cry.

"Dani it's ok. Don't cry." Said Cosmo pulling her into his arms and holding her.

Dani pushed him away and ran down the hall to the ladies room. Sam and Cosmo right behind her. When they went into the ladies room Dani was in a stall throwing up. Sam got a wet paper towel and went into the stall. He waited until she finished and talked comforting to her.

"Dani It's ok. Just breathe Gal." He said as she finally finished.

"God, Sam he killed my friends I knew those men well. They were both excellent Marshals." She said sliding to the floor in a heap. Sam crouched and wiped her face.

"Cosmo would you get another wet towel for me please." Said Sam.

"Sure." Said Cosmo quickly doing so.

"We have to catch him Dani. Youw thw this sleaze. You know how his mind works. I know you can help us catch him." Said Sam. "Thanks Cosmo." As he took the wet towel from Cosmo

"Me? How?" Said Dani getting up off the floor still shaking.

"Sammy I think she needs some food. She's shaky." Said Cosmo.

"Shit no Cosmo. I think I'm going to retch again if you mention food." Said Dani.

"Don't do that. It will cause problems with the Blood Sugar." Said Sam beginning to worry.

"How do you know?" said Dani.

"Been reading up. Thought I needed too seeing the woman I love has Diabetes." Said Sam.

"That's sweet Sam." She said as he handed her a wet towel.

"Dani you will have to help us." Said Sam almost in a question.

"I know. I just can't think right now." Said Dani vacantly.

"Cosmo take her home." Said Sam.

"Sure thing." Said Cosmo. "Come on Dani."

"No, I will be fine. It's not every day you find out That your brother killed two of your friends. Figures." She said going to the sink and washing her hands. "He's been bad since the day he was born. How am I going to tell Mamma and Daddy."

"You can'ght ght now Dani." Said Sam.

"Yeah, I know." Said Dani. Then a plan began to form in her head. Once Henry said that he wished she were like him.. And if she had been he would have liked her more. He said also she would eventually come to his side of things and when she did there would be a place for her. He said that is why he hated her. She was always "MISS GOODY TWO SHOES" His quote. She looked up into the mirror at the men standing waiting for her. Both concerned about her. Light started to form in her eyes.

"Dani what are you up too?" Said Cosmo in a warning voice.

"Something just struck me. I know how we can get him but it will take time." Said Dani.

"Well are you going to tell us? Asked Sam.

She turned around and took a breath.

"Once a long time ago when I was home on leave. Henry told me that someday I would screw up and eventually come to his way of thinking. He said there would be a place for me there when it happened. I know how we can infiltrate his operation. I will turn bad and have to leave the Marshal Service. It has to be bad but not bad enough to go to jail. Maybe a suspicion of something or insubordination." Said Dani.

"That is ludicrous Dani you do something bad?" Said Cosmo.

"No, no I get were you are going. Dani please go on." Said Sam smiling . He knew she would come up with something. She was something else.

"Maybe suspicion of drugs. Yes. That's it! I can be accused of selling drugs!" Said Dani.

"That wont work." Said Cosmo.

"It will. The suspicion alone will make his mouth water. Insubordination too." Said Sam.

"Dani I suppose you can pull this off. I have to have faith that you can." Said Cosmo hugging her.

"I know. So we need to let Cathrine in on it." Said Dani.

"Let's go." Said Sam. "You ok with this? I mean you may have to shoot him or kill him." Said Sam.

"No problem I have wanted this all my life." She said.

They told Cathrine what Dani was going to do. The operation would be in Dallas. She could contact her parents but not tell them the truth. He ran his operations out of two clubs. One a fifties Club called the Time Warp. It was in Deep Ellem were all the dy cdy clubs are in Dallas and the Hollow Point a retro techno club That spanned the 70', 80's and 90's in the south of the district of Deep Ellem. Dani would have all the papers necessary to make him believe she was bad now. Sam would go with her and she would try to get a job at one of the clubs. Hopefully she could be a bouncer or dancer or something. If Henry knew she was on his side she thought she was in the clear.

They even gave the news a bulletin to run in Dallas. That she had been arrested on allegations of Suspicion to distribute and they were throwing her out. She made a good show as Biggs handcuffed her and threw her into the back of a Chevy. When they got in she was trying not to smile.

"Oh, Bobby I didn't know you were such an animal. You really need to do that more often. It was a real turn on especially with the handcuffs." She growled at him joking.

"Dani stop it. Or I wont take the handcuffs off." He said joking back.

"Oooh, baby. Right here right now." Said Dani lifting her handcuffed hands.

"Dani I am a married man!" Said Biggs thinking she was serious.

"Just joking." Said Dani giggling. Biggs saw where this was going.

"You two stop that." Said Cooper.

"Yeah, you want to melt the plastic on the seats." Said Cosmo grinning in the rearview mirror.

"Dani!" said Biggs shaking his head and giving her a wicked little smile.

"Well, can't a girl have a little S and M and have an audience." She said laughing.

"I kinda want to see that. Mind if I watch?" said Cosmo still watching with one eye what was going on in the back seat.

Biggs slapped the back of his head.

"No, That's just what she wants. I love to keep her in a lather." Said Biggs going with the flow..

"You are a wicked, wicked man Bobby Biggs. Keeping a girl waiting like that." Said Cooper laughing.

"That is just my style Savanna. If I gave her all she wanted when she wanted it, that would be too easy. Especially for Dani." Said Biggs.

"So, you got a whip for this Animal, Dani?" Said Savanna.

"No, but I think I need more of a Cat o Nine tails. No, come to mention it he might like that too much." Said Dani.

"This thang is getting far too raunchy for me. " Said Cooper.

"It would seeing who started this." Said Cosmo.

"ME? Moui?" Said Dani looking innocent.

"Yes. You, you pervert. "Said Cosmo.

"Oh and who did what to who the other night Mr. Whipped cream?" Said Dani joking of course..

"Whoa." Said Cooper and Biggs.

"Cosmo you little devil." Said Cooper.

"Well she can't have any and I had to clean up the mess." He said this was all good natured fun they were having.

"I was just joking." Said Dani. "Cosmo isn't perverted like that."

"What kind is he? " asked Biggs.

"A friendly one." Said Dani as they made it to the city jail.

"Try not to get too excited. I plan to be a little rough with you." Said Biggs trying not to chuckle.

"Shit, and I thought this was the foreplay. I love it when you rough me up. " Said Dani laughing.

He hauled her butt out of the car and put his hand around her arm. The TV people got it. She cursed and spat at him. It was a good show. They made it too the booking room and shut the door.

"Very good Dani." he said.

"You know I didn't mean it Bobby'." She said.

"I know it was for show. I think I might have roughed you up a bit." He said as a bruise started to form on her arm.

"That's ok. Nothing that wont heal. I almost let you carry me in." She said.

"That would have been good Dani." Said Biggs. “ You wont be here long the locals know it is a sting."

"Just make sure they do Bobby." She said.

In a couple of hours after all the hoop la died down Dani dawned a blonde wig and a pair of Ray Bands. She left the side exit. In a few days she would call Henry begging for his help. She even started smoking again. She hated it but it was for Henry's benefit.

She didn't have to call him. He called her at home.

"Hey Sis, heard you were in a hellava lot a trouble. Drugs huh?" Said Henry.

Cosmo turned on the recording device.

"Yeah, got fed up with all the shit I have done over the years. You are right being good don't get you Jack shit." She said. "I have to get out of the apartment soon and I have no money." She said.

"Come home Dani and work with me. I have room for you in a little operation. With all your experience in Law Enforcement it should be good for us both. I will pay you well and I will see to it the charges are dropped in Chicago." Said Henry.

"Maybe you and I can have a real relationship now." Said Dani. "Thanks. The heat is on up here."

"I saw the news." Said Henry. "I will send a plane ticket."

"Could you send one for a friend of mine. He is my supplier." Said Dani.

"Good I need one. Who is he?" said Henry.

"His name is Sam Gerard. He and I have gotten tight if you know what I mean." Said Dani.

"I'm glad Dani. I hate to see you waste your life with men like Ammad." Said Henry.

"Yes. Ammad was a mistake but that was years ago." Said Dani.

"Sure, I understand." Said Henry. "Don't worry Dani I will get you out of there."

"Thanks, I knew you would." She said.

"Oh and I have an apartment you and Sam can have." Said Henry.

"Thanks Henry. I will see you soon then." Said Dani.

"Sure. I will make the necessary calls tonight and you will be on the plane tomorrow. Ok sis." Said Henry.

"Thanks again." Said Dani.

"No sweat. See you really are like me." Said Henry.

"Yeah I am." Said Dani.

She hung up the phone.

"Cosmo. Cosmo it's set." She said going into her bedroom.

"I'm worried. With all he has done to you in your life I am afraid something will happen." Said Cosmo.

"Don't worry I have this all planned out Darlin'." Said Dani.

"I suppose you know the bastard better than I do." Said Cosmo." He said.

"Don't worry Cosmo." Said Dani sitting on the bed and putting her hand in his.

"I just don't want anything to happen to you. You mean a lot to me." Said Cosmo. "So you and Sammy will stay together in the apartment. He aint gonna like that.aid aid Cosmo.

"Why not. We are lovers already." Said Dani.

"He don't like what he calls living in sin Dani never has." Said Cosmo.

"He planned this too. He told me to do what was necessary. She said. "You know that we are professionals." Said Dani"

"I know I just know he wont like it.." Said Cosmo.

" 'Nough said Cosmo." She said.

"Ok, you and Sam live together. You know and he knows that there will have to be some couple shit between you two to make it real. Even if it truly is." He said.

"I'm a big girl and he is a big boy so just Chill out Cosmo." She said.

The next day true to his word the tickets arrived. Dani and Sam would go ahead and meet with the Sleaze The rest would be on the next plane out. Cosmo kissed and hugged her. He was worried about this sting Dani was going in deep. He hoped it wouldn't kill her.

"Don't worry Cosmo, Sam will take care of me just fine." Said Dani.

"I know, be careful. I love you, Best Friend." He said he meant it of course but he really still loved her.

"I will and I love you. See you tonight." She said wiping the stray lipstick from his face.

They boarded Southwest Airlines. Sam was kind of happy. He would be with her for a change. He had to be on his best behavior. He knew they had to act like lovers and he would do his level best to complete the Charade even if it really wasn‘t.

"Dani howyou you feel about this?" He said on the plane.

"Fine. I'm sorry I got you into this but you are good at this and Cosmo I just don’t know if he can handle it. We are going to be living together for a while." She said.

"I know. I don't like this living in sin shit. How much to you want to put on in front of Henry." Said Sam.

"Kissing , Hugging. That sort of thing. Should be pretty easy for us Sam." She said.

"Well I think I can mange that." He said smiling at her.

"YOU! I bet you can." Said Dani.

"Miss Dani." Said Sam.

"Yes." She said bending closer.

"Don't worry I will keep my hands to myself." He said.

"Shit and I know you Mr. Lecherous. I remember when you didn't." She said.

"Well just how far do you want me to go." He said teasing her a bit.

"Enough to show him we are tight. I think you can do that Cowboy. I remember that afternoon." Said Dani.

"Ok." He said smiling at her.

"You are enjoying this. I see that smile." She said scolding him.

"Well a man has to have something to think about." Said Sam still with a grin on his face.

"Sam. I think you are really enjoying this." Said Dani.

"I am." Said Sam chuckling a little.

"So do you want to practice?" She said.

"Ok." Said Sam knowing full well it what it could lead to.

He put his hand on her face and bent in to kiss her. She had kissed Sam before. But it seemed every time there was lava emitting from his kiss. She shot up in her seat when he did it. FIRE!!! Was what she was thinking.

"Shit!" She said.

"What Dani?" He asked making sure he got off the lipstick.

"Sam I think you had better be really careful that lava just started again." She said not making much sense.

"Dani for this to work we have too." He said. "Let's try again." He was having some fun at her expense. He knew what their kissing did to her. And to him too.

"Sam.” She said. Then he bent in and kissed her again.

Dani forgot what end was up. Rockets were blinding her. She put her arms around him. She continued to kiss him. It got pretty hot. When he did pull away she was right at goo.

"Dani?" He asked.

She composed herself as much as she could.

"That was what I was getting at. LAVA!" She said.

"Lava? That again." Said Sam gleefully. "Gee I thought if might have just been a warm breeze."

"Pure unadulterated Lava. Molten hot.” She said.

"I suppose that was an off handed compliment." Said Sam very pleased with himself .

"It was and it was an observation. I have picked up a lot from Cosmo." She said.

"You felt something just then. "He said smirking a little.

"Yeah, and it scares the hell out of me. The damned earth moved!" She said. "I swear every time you kiss me I want to throw you down and.." She said as he cut her off.

"Don't let it scare you Dani. I know I feel it too. We have to be more careful than most folks when we kiss one another. " Said Sam.

"I know but, without fear there is no reason." She said.

"I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." He said. But he really had.

"I don't think it is uncomfortable Sam. Just close. Real close if we weren't sitting in an airplane I would clean your clock." Said Dani.

Sam had enjoyed that. He knew she was flustered. Deep down He had felt it too.

They got off the plane and true to his word Henry was there with a limo.

"Hey Sis." Said Henry.

"Hey yourself." She said. "This is my man Sam Gerard. Sam this is my brother Henry Little Elk."

They shook hands and Sam put his arm around her.

"Pleased to meet you Sam. Dani says you are willing to be apart of the operation." Said Henry.

"Sure any thing to help out." Said Sam with a harder Texas accent.

"So you are from Texas originally?" Asked Henry.

"Yeah, West Texas." Said Sam.

"So let's get you two to the Apartment no need to work to day. There is plenty of time for that tomorrow." He said. Opening the door to the limo.

Dani and Sam got in. They talked of her problems in Chicago. They drove up to a gated apartment complex in Turtle Creek. Dani was kind of impressed.

"Dani I brought your Harley so you and Sam can get around today. I will have a car for you tomorrow." Henry said.

"I didn't know you had one Dani." Said Sam.

"It's a long story. Friend of mine bought it for me. His name is Brandon Moyez. He bought it for me after I got out. I put it at Mamma's and Daddy's. He has a sister Elaina. She and I and Brandon have been friends since I in in 2nd grade. You know that." Said Dani.

"Well here we are. The fridge is stocked. I know your diabetic Dani so there is stuff for you and Foster's for Sam." Said Henry.

Dani saw the Motor Cycle it was a beauty. Sam just went a little crazy over it. He hadn't ridden onece hce he was in the Army.

"That's a great Harley. I used to ride an old Indian Scout in the Army. Sold it when I joined up with the men I was with." Said Sam looking at the Cycle.

"Well Dani it is good to finally have you were you should have been all along. The apartment is one bedroom 103 right there. I trust that is fine Sam." Said Henry.

"Yeah, We are pretty tight." Said Sam Putting his arm around her and they kissed.

"Good to see you with a better choice. That Ammad character did nothing but hurt you, Dani. Good to meet you Sam." Said Henry.

"You too man." Said Sam playing it to the hilt.

Henry waved and pulled away in the limo.

"Dani this is a terrific bike you never told me you road." Said Sam eyeing it .

"Well, after we see were we will be living, let's go and have a ride. You can drive." Said Dani.

"That's a deal." Said Sam picking up his bag.

They opened the door and walked inside. The day was a mild one. They wouldn't need to wear their winter clothes today.

"I will say one thing for brother from hell he sure do have taste." Said Dani walking around.

"The boy do have taste for sure." Said Sam.

"Well who is taking the Couch. I can. I can sleep anywhere." She said. "I mean.." Sam cut her off.

"I know us military people can. I could sleep upright at guard duty." Said Sam. "I'll take the couch. Where is the bathroom"

"It's in the bedroom." She said.

"That's ok. We can work it out Dani. Now let's go for a spin on that Cycle of yours." He said.

"Here." She said pitching him her keys.

"This ought to be fun." He said as they got the helmets and went.

Dani got on behind him and he started it up. He was just like Cosmo and the Mustang. He was having a ball. Dani put her arms around him and they went all over North Dallas. Sam loved the fact she had her arms around him They stopped to eat and rest a minute.

"See what did I tell you. We can have had a lot of fun together." He said teasing her.

"I know Sam. It's been fun. Different. Like I'm dating myself?" She said quizzically.

"Yeah, I know." He said.

They ate and got back on the bike and wenck tck to the apartment. There was nothing on TV so Sam put on the stereo and they talked. The rest of the Squad was held up because of bad weather in Chicago so they would take the first plane in the morning. Cosmo called Dani's cell phone and told her.

"Sure Cosmo. I'm sorry. No we are just hanging out. Nothing on the TV as usual. Yeah I know. See ya tomorrow Darlin'. LOVE YA." She said and hung up.

"Cosmo pinein' for his Angel?" Said Sam teasing her again.

"Sam. You are a tease." She said hitting him with the small sofa pillow.

"You are a mess Miss Dani what will I ever do to you. I mean do with you I mean.." She cut him off.

"Sam you are just as bad as Cosmo." She said Hitting him again.

"You know I could court marshal you for striking a superior." He said joking.

"A superior what?" She said doing it again.

He reached over and grabbed the pillow from her hand and tossed it on the floor. He then proceeded to tickle her like he had in the woods. She was hollering before he stopped. She was under him on the couch. He looked at her. She was everything he had ever wanted. She looked at him with a serious look on her face and then it took on a smile.

"So what do you think you are doing Sam?" Said Dani.

"Nothing really just seeing what you look like from the bottom, again." He said still on top of her.

"Comfy?" She said.

"Yeah I suppose so." He said.

"You can get off anytime." She said.

"I know but do you want me too." He asked.

"There is nothing more that I want to do Sam, than to take you into my arms and make love with you." She said.

"We have plenty of time for that. Jamie is pushing for a wedding." Said Sam.

"I don't want to get married you know that." Said Dani.

"I know I just was telling you that he is quite taken with you. I can understand why since I am too. " Said Sam.

"I know. I like him too. I also know you don't like this situation." Said Dani.

"No, I don't. Living together is not my cup of tea." Said Sam.

"Yeah Cosmo told me." Said Dani.

"Still, I can't help myself Dani I have had it pretty bad for you all along." He said.

"I know. You and I are alike. Warriors. Man you put out fire." Said Dani.

"My thoughts exactly. You have a little Lava of your own oozing." Said Sam.

"So what do we do now. We are already lovers. You gonna sleep out her and me in there knowing we already done it. We both have feelings." She said.

"I don't know Dani. But this is business too. " He said.

"I just want you to know that the feelings you have for me haven't been moot. I know you love me and that we want each other. I love you too. " She said.

"We could go to a show or something. Get out of here and the situation a while and see what happens. If they need us they can call us." Said Sa>

Sam had her in his arm and they bent into a kiss. It was a hot one like on the plane. Dani thought she would melt down right there. There was nothing sweet about it. It was passion pure and simple. She thought of hauling off and getting this thing settled. But Sam stopped and looked at her.

"What?" Said Dani.

"You are the most beautiful woman Dani. I think about you all the time. I remember when you had me look at the scars. I didn't actually see them. The vision of your body has been in my thoughts since we were together I know it's been awhile. Professionalism be screwed. I love you Dani." He said.

"I know Sam, I Love you too." She said.

"So why can't we just go and make love and not have all this shit. "He asked.

"I don't know. I want to too." She said.

"Well since you know so damned much how do you feel?" He asked.

"I told you. I want to sleep with you while we are here. I don't think it's a good idea to try the opposite. It will only cause more problems for us. Frustration for one on my end." Said Dani.

"I don't go in for that. There are some things I just wont do and living in sin is one of them." He said.

"This is an operation. It's like that." Said Dani.

"I have principals Dani. A man is measured by that." Said Sam.

"Sure you do. We already have spent two nights together already. Were are the principals to that?" She asked. he was giving her a double standard.

"That's different. We don't have the same address. That won't happen until you are my wife." Said Sam.

"This is impossible, you are a mule you know that Sam." Said Dani getting fed up with the double standard he had handed her. "Sam want to take me to a show?" said Dani.

"No, I want to take you in the bedroom and show you how much I do love you." He said.

"Shit." She said. And pulled away.

"What?" Said Sam.

"That is what I want too. You just said we wouldn't the whole time here. " Said Dani.

"I really don't give a shit right now." He said. Starting things up again.

"Sam you just said you want to stick to your principles." She said.

"I know Dani. I am torn on this too. But how will we ever know if we don't at least try." Said Sam' She put her hand on his shoulder.

"Sam you are the most wonderful man I know besides Cosmo. Let's give this some air and go to a show. " Said Dani.

"Ok. Let's go." Said Sam grabbing her hand and the helmets.

They got on the bike and went to a show. Just like that. They enjoyed a comedy and ate popcorn and cokes.

In the middle of the show he put his arm around her. She put her head on his shoulder and looked up at him. He was almost 52 she thought but that had not taken his looks. He had a little gray in his hair and deep brown eyes. He had some wrinkles but they just enhanced his good looks. He was a hand man man. Virile and he took good care of himself.

"What Dani?" He said .

"Nothing just taking inspection." She said.

"Oh, so you are checking me out." He said.

"You have your Grand mother's eyes." She said.

"I have always thought so." Said Sam.

"They are so deep brown." Said Dani. I could get lost in the depth."

"Don't get too lost Dani. I want to be able to find you. You like the hard rock don't you. AC/DC. Pink Floyd stuff like that." He asked.

"Yeah, Cosmo hates it. He got me some ear phones. He likes the soft stuff and a little hard too but the two you just mentioned drives him nuts." Said Dani.

"I like Pink Floyd. The old stuff. Dark side of the Moon. They're early stuff. I can't get into the Wall. At all some of the songs are just depressing. I like the Moody Blues, Eric Clapton. The Rolling Stones, not the new stuff but the old stuff." He said.

"I like Brick in the wall and Run like hell. Rolling Stone's huh? Paint it Black and Sympathy for the Devil" She said A little surprised. " And the Eagles rule."

"You know those songs? The Eagels do rule as you put it. Always have. I saw them in '72 or '73 in Dallas." Said Sam.

"Yeah I was a 60's fan in high school. Why were you there In Dallas?" Said Dani.

"Stationed at Carswell in Ft. Worth." Said Sam. For a short detachment.

"Cool." She said.

They went back to the apartment. Dani went into the bed room and changed into her night shirt it was a satin one that she had gotten at Victoria's Secret. It had a nice little robe and house shoes with it. She came out of the bathroom and got in bed with a novel.

Sam took his turn and came out in some lounge pants and a t-shirt.

"Miss Dani that is some night shirt." He said. It was yellow, her favorite color.

"My favorite color is yellow remember?" She said.

"It does you justice. You look really pretty." He said sitting on the side of the bed. She had taken off her makeup but that didn't matter. Dani was just as beautiful without it.

She put down the book for a minute.

What? She said.

"Nothing just saying goodnight Dani." He said.

"You expect a kiss Sam." She asked.

"Well if you are in the habit of giving one." Said Sam.

"Sure." She said and she kissed his cheek.

"Dani." Said Sam.

"What?" She said again.

"Not that way." He said.

"You are pushing this thing. Mr. Principal." She said.

"Ok, sorry Dani." He said as he was about to get up. She took his hand and pulled him back.

She kissed him. She knew it was like playing with fire. It was fire pure and simple. Fire that she had never had before. She began a deeper more passionate kiss and he got on the bed with her. They were probing now with there tongues. They got a little more comfortable. He wanted to touch her. She put his hand on her breast. He began to touch her nipple making it hard. She moaned a little. His hand went down a little lower. So did hers. He put her hand on him and she was a little surprised herself. He was a rock.

He put his hand inside of her thong and began to probe her with his fingers. She began to moan and buck. He took them off and threw them on the floor on the other side of the bed.

He took off his clothes. He got back on the bed and pulled up the night shirt. The scars were gone and he smiled. He began to kiss her breasts and he was working his way down. She stopped him and then she began to work on him. Not a word was said. She took him in her mouth and began to make him nuts.

"No, Dani stop." He said.

He got on top of her and was about to make love to her when the cell phone rang.

"Shit!" He said. Getting off of her.

"Hello? Hi Biggs what the hell is it. Fine tomorrow at noon. I'll be there. Dani is asleep. Fine bye." He said.

He sat on the bed and laid back down.

"Shit." He said.

"This is a no win situation Sam." She said.

"Shit " He said putting his hand on his face.

"I know. Maybe we should wait." She said.

"Maybe. Dani that was some little thing we just had. It has been awhile for us." He said.

"I know. It was. I was really surprised Sam. You just get better and better. " Said Dani smiling.

"The heat we put out could cause a melt down." Said Sam not quite over the little session they had just had.

"Do you want to finish. It's not fair to you." She said.

"No, I think that took it out of me. The phone ringing." He said.

"Sure?" She said.

"Yeah. It's fine Dani really." He said.

"You are good Sam." She said. "Real good."

"You are wonderful." He said. "Well, we will see what tomorrow brings. Go to sleep."

He got up and dressed.

She was frustrated. He had really got her in a lather. Fire is what was happing to her. He was fire. He was thinking she was too.

"You can sleep in here if you want too." She said.

"I don't know if that is wise Dani." Said Sam.

"I won't bite." Said Dani.

"Yes, you do, you terrible woman." Said Sam.

"I really care about you Sam. That's no lie. I happen to love you too." She said.

"Well, Miss Dani I love you too. I'm really glad to see the scars are gone." He said.

"Thanks to you and your caring about me." Said Dani sweetly.

"Goodnight Dani. I did it out of love you know that." He said kissing her.

"Goodnight Sam. I know you did Cowboy." Said Dani as he walked out the door.

Sam went to the Couch and laid down. He had almost really done it. What was he thinking? He wanted her. He wanted her in the worst way. Principals aside for the moment. He took a ragged breath and got very little sleep that night.

It was early on when he went to the bathroom. He was quite. She was asleep uncovered as usual.

He tried to cover her but she woke up.

"I just tried to cover you up. You looked cold." Said Sam.

"What time is it?" She a.

"4am I think." He said.

"Oh." she said.

"I'll be backing a minute." He said.

"Ok." She said as he disappeared into the bathroom.

He came out shortly and smiled at her. She was sitting up.

"I didn't mean to wake you.' He said. Go back to sleep.

"Ok." She said laying back down.

Sam left the room and went back on the couch. At 7am the alarm woke them.

"I heard it Dani." Said Sam.

"Did you sleep at all?" She said.

"Not a lot." Said Sam.

"Me neither." Said Dani.

She got out of bed and came out sans the robe and sat on the end of the sofa. She wiped her eyes and smiled at him.

"So you want breakfast?" Said Dani.

"Maybe later. Just coffee." Said Sam.

She got up and swaggered into the kitchen. She put on the coffee and got her kit out to check her blood sugar. Sam watched her.

It was normal.

"It's ok then?" Said Sam.

"Yes. I rarely have a problem now. I think that I am beating it." Said Dani.

"Good." Said Sam.

She got up and poured two cups. She handed one to him.

"Black, right." Said Dani.

"Yeah. You make wonderful coffee." He said taking the cup.

"Thanks. We are dancing around what happened last night." She said.

"I know. I just don't know what got into me." Said Sam.

"You sorry." Said Dani.

"No, never." Said Sam.

"Good." She said.

"What are you getting at Dani?" he asked.

"No one has to know. We have already done this before why is it so difficult." Said Dani.

"You suggesting that we?" He said.

"That is if you want to. " Said Dani.

"Well maybe we are being too paranoid. No one has to know and it is really no one's business but ours." Said Sam.

"This is between us. No one else." Said Dani.

"I understand it." Said Sam.

They walked into the bedroom. It was just like Sam had remembered. Not just good, but pure fire. What Sam and Dani didn't know was neither one would be able to go back to the life they had before.

"Oh, Sam that was fire and passion and wonderful." Said Dani after the fact. She was in his arms.

"I knew it would be. Did I hurt you?" he said.

"I kinda liked the semi rough part. I know that you wouldn't hurt me on purpose." Said Dani. he had gone after her with a vengeance.

"Now, that this is over and done how do you feel?" Said Sam.

"Not bad. I feel marvelous. That was some ride you gave me Cowboy." She said.

"Why do you call me that." Said Sam chucking a little.

"Because, you area rough rider." Said Dani joking.

"No I m oh oh hell Dani." He said pulling her into his arms tighter.

"Sam, that was great." She said.

"You and I know it aint the end of it." Said Sam.

"I know. Just try and not let on." Said Dani.

"I can do that. No one will ever know. Dani you are wonderful. You are pure FIRE." Said Sam.

"You are too." She said and they kissed again.

"Dani. Thank you." He said.

"What for. I did that out of love pure and sim" S" Said Dani.

"It was done all right Miss Dani. Just fine in fact." Said Sam.

"You and I need to figure out a game plan. I don't want the others to know about this." Said Dani.

"Neither do I Dani." Said Sam pulling her closer.

"We can do this. You and I will be living together for a while and it could be months. " She said.

"I know Dani. I really don't mind that much." Said Sam smiling at her.

"Sam it was good. The love making was. I have never felt like that in my life." She said.

"I wont say what I am thinking Dani. It is a bit tacky." He said.

"That the guys that I have been with didn't know what they were doing? Well except for Ted yes." Said Dani.

"Ted, your Captain?" Said Sam.

"Yes. He was pretty good but not like the lava machine." Said Dani.

"I forgot to say that I do love you and that what just happened was love." He said.

"You and I did make love but it was different." She said as she got of bof bed and went to the shower.

"Need some help with all that beautiful hair." He said getting out and coming into the bathroom.

"You suggesting that you and I take a shower?" She said.

"Why not." He said.

"Why not indeed." She said as she let him in the door.

They got dressed and sat in the living room. Dani had made some breakfast.

"You sure can cook Miss Dani." Said Sam.

"I do my best. Poor Cosmo burns water." Said Dani.

"I know, I'm not sure how he fed himself before you came along." Said Sam.

"When do we pick up the Squad?" She said.

"At Noon, according to Biggs." Said Sam.

"How did you get that moose anyway?" Said Dani.

"Oh Biggs is good Dani. You just know the what did you call it, Dufus side of him." Said Sam.

"I suppose. He was a real animal with the arrest." She said getting another cup of coffee. "Want some coffee?"

"Yes. If you don't mind." He said. "Did he hurt you?"

"No, but we had some fun in back of the cruiser. It got a bit raunchy. Nothing like that Sam I see that face. You know how I can be." She said.

"Yeah, I know that is what worries me." said Sam. He knew She was messing with him.

It was like they could revert in and out of a relationship. Dani was at ease with Sam. She really did like him as well as love him.. She really did love him. She had no intention of telling him the extent or anyone else.

"I will go on the bike. I want Cosmo to see the Harley." Said Dani.

"He won't get on it I bet you a steak dinner." He said.

"Your on Sam." She said putting out her hand.&#P> "Deal." Said Sam taking her hand.

"You really think he will freak out?" Said Dani.

"I don't know Dani. Cosmo is real hard to figure out sometimes." Said Sam.

"Yes he is. One minute he is so sweet to me the next he is yelling at me for something. Italians." Said Dani.

"Well, Miss Dani you asked for it didn't you." Said Sam.

"Cosmo is ok with this. We are just friends now. If he didn't almost die I wouldn't have said I loved him." Said Dani.

"You really thought he was dying, didn't you?" Said Sam.

"Sam I don't want to talk abut that. I still get flashbacks of him coding." Said Dani.

"Shit. You saw that didn't you?" Said Sam.

"Yeah, I did. The last thing I wanted to do wo sao say I would that I loved him But I do. I love him Sam but you know how it is." Said Dani.

"I do, Miss Dani. That I do. Cosmo does things sometimes without using the brains God gave him. He is a fine man but you and I both know that he is impulsive." Said Sam.

"That I do Sam." She said.

At noon Dani got on her leather jacket with the fringe and zippers. She went with Sam who had the car that Henry had given them, a two year old Jag. It was yellow with black interior. He drove it into Love Field. Dani parked her bike behind it. The Squad was waiting on them. Cosmo lit up when he saw her.

"Hello Angle and what the hell are you sitting on?" said Cosmo kissing Dani and hug her her.

"I have a Harley, Cosmo. One more secret. Brandon gave it to me." Said Dani getting off the bike.

"So you are a biker chic, huh very interesting." Said Cosmo stroking his goatee and looking over the bike.

"Do you like it?” She said already tasting the steak dinner.

"Yes. I do. You can ride that thing?" Said Cosmo.

"Sure Darlin'. Sam and I used it last night to run around." Said Dani.

"Sam you been riding with a biker chic?" Said Cosmo.

"No, why would I do that? Dani aint no biker." He said trying to not be obvious.

"Just Kidding." Said Cosmo

"Say that is a beautiful bike." Said Biggs looking it over.

"Thanks Biggs." Said Dani.

"I had an old motor cycle when I was a kid. Almost killed me." Said Biggs sitting on the bike.

"Start'er up Bobby." Said Dani.

"Naw, really?" Said Biggs.

"Sure." Said Dani.

Biggs started the Harley up and revved the motor.

"Can I ride her Dani please just get on and I will drive." Said Biggs.

"I thought Cosmo would kind of like to ride with me." Said Dani.

"No thanks Dani. I haven‘t lost all of my mind." Said Cosmo.

"Where is your sense of adventure Darlin'." She asked.

"I still have it and I want to keep it." Said Cosmo.

"Come on just a short ride." She said.

"Alright just to the gate and back." Said Cosmo.

"So what do I do.' He asked.

"Get on and hold on to me." She said. "Put the cigar out."

"This should be fun." Said Cosmo. "I get to hold on to the prettiest gal in the state."

"Hold on. I mean it." She said.

Dani and Cosmo got on the bike and she took him to the gate and back. He was a li sca scared at first. But he was having a ball as usual by the time they got back.

"That was great. But let Biggs take it to the hotel." Said Cosmo.

"Sure." Said Dani scooting back and letting Biggs get on.

"Thanks Dani, you don't know what this means to me." Said Biggs.
