Then you shouldn't be alone
"Hey Frank can I seriously get a sandwich? I'm dying of hunger over here."
He looked back at her, and smiled slightly. "So how is it a journalist comes to a sleepy town? I mean how many authors are around here, heck how many airports are around that allow access to other author filled cities?"
She shrugged. "I was hoping there would be lots of writers out here, because mainly the only reason I came out here was because my sister asked me to come visit, but then I guess I just fell in love with this place..
"Well the good news is there is one author in town" Mort reminded her.
Sara smiled. "Yep."
He smiled and Frank brought over his sandwhich at long last.
She looked around seeing as how Mort was busy eating, and glancing at one of the waitresses, she saw one person mumbling something to another person, and then they both looked at her, and shook their heads.
He stopped eating. "People in town aonvionvinced I killed someone, I'm pretty much a town legend and you're now being drug down into my seedy underworld by conversing with me as though I were less than a homicidal bastard bent on blood and suffering."
"Why would they think like that? They don't even know you.. " she protested.
"You'd have to ask them," Mort advised. "I have no idea, I'm a right standup kinda fella."
"Hm.." She looked back at those people and wondered why they would think like that about someone they barely knew.
Mort smiled at her and went back to eating, then when he was done, he asked out of nowhere. "So what do you do in your free time?"
"Just wonder around, and go sight seeing.." She answered. Yes, it did seem boring, and she figured that was what he was about to say.
"Wow, that's kind of boring... Not that I do anything much more than write and drink caffine.." he informed her.
"Theres not really alot to do when your alone.." she said honestly.
"Then you shouldn't be alone"
Yes folks that was his terrible attempt at being smooth, it was clumsy but it was an attempt.
"I'd do anything to not have to be alone.."
"What say you come over and read over the next piece I'm working on
You can write an article and we can not be alone together."
"Hm.. Alright.." she said.
"Sounds like a plan, you think you can find the place okay?" he questioned.
"Pretty sure I can."
"Good deal then "
"Alright..."
"You make sure these poeple don't talk you into hating me.." He finished his sandwich and wiped his hands off before offering her one of the newly cleaned hands.
She took his hand, and spoke up again. "Why would I hate you?"
"Same reason they do I suppose.."
"But they don't know you.."
"Neither do you ~wink~ yet."
