The Slayer Prophecies

Chapter 2: The Slayer Prophecies
A/N: Blade sheds some light on Leorah’s vampire slayer heritage and tries to convince her that she is in real danger of being taken hostage by Deacon Frost. Will Leorah believe Blade or will she ignore his warnings?

Leorah’s smoky gray eyes stayed trained on the window of the passenger side of her car as they headed east towards wherever Blade lived. It was starting to rain now and it gave her an excuse to stare out the window as the outside world rushed past her as they sped out of the city. Leorah decided she would much rather focus on the beads of water that were rapidly collecting on the window than to try and make conversation with the somewhat intimidating man who was now behind the wheel of her car.

“Have you ever crossed paths with Deacon Frost before tonight?” The sudden interruption of silence made Leorah jump before she quickly composed herself to answer Blade’s question.

“No. I would have remembered a face like his.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Well Deacon Frost is very unique looking.”

“Unique looking huh?”

“Okay what I mean is he’s attractive.”

“You find that pasty white blood sucker attractive?”

“Well when you put it that way he doesn’t sound so appealing.”

“Sorry to disappoint you sweetheart but it’s what he is.”

“I know what Deacon is and I know what he does, and I even know that he is apparently your sworn enemy but I have nothing to do with the battle that you’re fighting against him.”

“You’re a part of this battle since Deacon has set his sights on possessing you. Now the burning question is are you prepared to accept the fact that you’re being hunted by a vampire?”

“Do I really have any other choice than to accept that Blade?”

“No. The only option you have is to let me protect you so Deacon doesn’t turn you into one of them.”

“How do you even know that’s what Deacon wants with me Blade? Maybe he wants something else from me.”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know, I haven’t gotten that far yet.”

The rest of the car ride to Blade’s hideout was spent in total silence. Leorah was jerked forward towards the dashboard of her car when Blade suddenly slammed on the brakes. The only thing that kept her from smashing her head into the dashboard was her seatbelt that firmly yanked her back against the seat.

“What the hell is your problem? Are you trying to kill me or something?”

“No. We’re here. Now hurry up and follow me inside.”

Without another word Blade killed the engine and climbed out of the car. After shooting a hateful glare in Blade’s direction Leorah got out of her car and followed Blade inside the large warehouse that was his home. Once inside the old abandoned warehouse she discovered that it had been transformed into a laboratory and a showcase for the incredible mercenary of weapons that Blade used in his fight against the vampire race.

Leorah yelped when she felt the unmistakable barrel of a gun press into the back of her head firmly. Blade whirled around quickly drawing his sword from it’s place on his back preparing to kill whoever had frightened Leorah. When his green eyes fell on the familiar and very well worn face of his longtime friend and partner Abraham Whistler. With a sigh Blade replaced his sword and tossed a quick grin at Whistler.

“Who is she Blade and what is she doing here?”

“Relax Whistler she’s a friend.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah now will you get the barrel of your gun out of the back of her head?” Whistler slowly lowered his gun and released his tight grip on the back of Leorah’s neck.

“So you got a name girl?”

“Yeah my name is Leorah Blake. Who the hell are you?”

“The name’s Abraham Whistler but you can call me Whistler.”

“Look Whistler, I brought Leorah here because Deacon Frost was trying to kidnap her tonight.”

“Well don’t worry darlin, you’ll be safe here. Why don’t you just go and have a seat on that couch over there?” With a small nod Leorah walked over to the couch and sat down quietly. Blade gestured for Whistler to follow him into a back room where he shut the door behind them.

“Something on your mind Blade?”

“Yeah.”

“It’s about the girl isn’t it? What did she say her name was again?”

“Her name is Leorah and yeah it’s about her.”

“What’s up?”

“Her name, it’s so familiar to me but I don’t know where I’ve heard it before.”

“Leorah, yeah that name does have a certain significance. It’s a very old name.”

“I know that much but I can’t put my finger on where it originated from.”

“It’s ancient Romanian.”

“Ancient Romanian huh? How the hell do you know that?”

“Because I used to be a professor and teach history, ancient cultures and their lifestyles to be exact.”

“So Leorah’s name is ancient Romanian. Do you happen to know what it means?”

“Not off the top of my head but maybe I do have something that could help us?”

“Like?”

“The book that you found in that old abandoned cathedral in Hungary.”

“The Slayer Prophecies? What does that book have to do with anything?”

“It may shed some light on why Leorah’s name is so familiar to you.”

“I suppose it’s worth a shot if you think it could tell us anything important.” Whistler turned his back to Blade and pulled a very large book from the top shelf of a bookshelf in the corner of the room they were in. It was old and the cover was a blood red leather and was very weathered from all the years it had been in existence on the earth.

Blade carefully took the old and rather dusty book from Whistler and placed it on the desk that was to the right of him. “And how is this supposed to help me Whistler?”

“This book is a written record of the entire history of vampire slayers and how their fight against vampires began.”

“Okay so what exactly am I looking for here?”

With an annoyed sounding sigh Whistler opened the book and thumbed through it’s table of contents. “There.”

“What?”

“Turn it to chapter twelve.”

“Why chapter twelve?”

“That chapter is about the most powerful vampire slayer that will ever walk the earth.”

“I didn’t know they wrote a chapter about me in this book.”

“No Blade, this book isn’t talking about you. Contrary to your belief you’re not the most powerful vampire slayer that will ever walk the earth.”

With an impish grin Blade quickly turned to the page where chapter twelve began. He sank down into the metal chair behind the desk and started reading. According to the book the most powerful vampire slayer to ever walk the earth would be a woman and she would be brought into the world on May 29,1980. She would bare the mark of the slayer which would come to be known as a black crescent moon and it would appear on her right shoulder.

This woman slayer shall be the most feared yet the most sought after being to all vampires. For she is the slayer who possesses the ability to carry the seed of a vampire and give birth to a new and more superior breed of vampire. Blade stared up at Whistler with a look of disbelief twisted onto his face.

“Did you find what you were looking for Blade?”

“You could say that old friend, but it wasn’t what I was expecting.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah. Apparently the most powerful slayer is a woman who was supposed to be born on May 29,1980. Why is that date so special?”

“It’s the day that is known to the slayers as Ascension Day.”

“Ascension Day?”

“That’s right. The day their greatest warrior would be born and carry on their quest to devour the vampire race.”

“Makes sense I guess, but the year 1980?”

“Yes that’s a little unclear. It would make her what twenty four nearly twenty five?”

“Yeah something like that.”

“Well your young lady friend out there is what twenty four?”

“Your guess is as good as mine Whistler.”

“Let’s bring her in here and find some things out about her.”

With a nod Blade stood and walked around the desk to open the door and call for Leorah to come into the room. “Leorah?”

“Yes Blade?”

“Could you come in here?”

“Sure.” Leorah got off the couch she had been sitting on and padded lightly over to the door Blade had emerged from. “You wanted to see me?”

“Yeah. Could you tell us a little about yourself Leorah?”

“Sure. What do you want to know?”

“For starters when is your birthday?”

“May 29th.”

“What year were you born?”

“1980. Why are you asking me this Blade?”

“You were born on May 29,1980?”

“Yes, what does it matter?”

“Where did your family come from?”

“We’re originally from Greece on my father’s side.”

“And your mother’s?”

“From Romania. Why are you asking all this Blade?”

“And you said your name is an older Romanian name correct?”

“That’s right. Blade what’s going on?”

“Leorah you need to read something and then you’ll understand why I asked you all those questions.”

“Read what?”

“I want you to read chapter twelve in this book.”

“What book?”

“The Slayer Prophecies.”

“I’ll read it but I don’t see why it’s so important for me to read it.”

Leorah sat down at the desk and started reading the strange old book that was in front of her. When she had finished she stared up at Blade with wide smoky gray eyes.

“Where did you get this?”

“That doesn’t matter. What matters is that book is talking about you Leorah.”

“No Blade, it could be talking about any other girls that share my birthday.”

“Then let me see your right shoulder?”

“No.”

Leorah stood and tried to bolt for the door but Blade easily grabbed her around the waist and held her tightly to him.

“Let me go!”

“Just hold still! Whistler pull the collar of her sweater down so I can check her right shoulder.”

Whistler carefully pulled the collar of Leorah’s sweater down so that her right shoulder was bared. Blade’s green eyes immediately recognized the thin black crescent moon that marked the creamy white skin of her right shoulder.

“Well Blade?”

“The crescent moon is there just like the book said. She’s the one.”

“What the hell are you talking about Blade?”

“You’re a vampire slayer Leorah.”

“No! That’s not true! You’re lying!”

“I wish I was for your sake, but you read it yourself. You’re the one slayer that has the ability to carry the seed of a vampire. That’s why you have to let me protect you Leorah. If Deacon finds this out he’ll hunt you down like an animal for sure.”

“I don’t want to deal with all of this. I just want to go back home and go to work in the lab at the hospital. I want to go back to my normal life before I met you!”

“It doesn’t work that way angel. You have a bigger purpose in life than to work in some lab at a hospital.”

“I don’t want that burden on my shoulders Blade! I can’t handle it okay!”

“You need to figure out a way to handle it Leorah. I need you to help me take down Deacon Frost.”

“I’m not strong enough to take on Deacon Frost and you know that. Look Blade, please just take me back to my apartment?”

“You won’t be safe there.”

“I’ll be fine. Deacon doesn’t know that I’m able to carry a vampire’s child so he won’t come after me again.”

Fine Leorah, I’ll take you back to your apartment. I hope you know what you’re doing. Whistler, I’ll be back in a little while.”

“Sure. Leorah, why don’t you take the book with you and read it?”

“Why?”

“Just so you can better understand where you come from.”

“Okay. But this isn’t going to change my mind.”

Whistler nodded as he handed the now closed book to Leorah.

“Well let’s go Leorah.”

“Alright.”

Blade led Leorah back outside to where her car was waiting. Leorah kept her eyes closed nearly the entire ride back to her apartment. She had a lot to deal with and after everything she had found out tonight she just didn’t feel much like talking about it to anyone. Blade pulled into the parking lot of the building where Leorah’s apartment was and killed the engine of her car. He pulled out a silver plated gun out of the right side of his leather trench coat.

“Here, take this.”

“What do you want me to do with that?”

“Protect yourself. The gun is fully loaded with one hundred percent silver bullets.”

“Silver bullets?”

“Vampires are highly allergic to silver. It can kill them.”

“Oh.”

“Just take it and be careful. I’ll be back to check on you in a couple of days.”

With a small nod Leorah took the gun from Blade and they climbed out of her car. She headed up to her apartment and quickly locked the door. Leorah changed into a pair of black gray and white plaid cotton pajama pants and a black cotton tank top before curling up on her sofa to read the book that Whistler had suggested she take with her. She wasn’t quite ready to admit to anyone including herself that she was even the slightest bit interested in her heritage as a vampire slayer. Little did she know that she would later be remembered for committing the worst kind of betrayal in all the history of vampire slayers.

A/N: The next chapter will have more of Deacon and Leorah interacting so it will prove to be quite entertaining! Hope you are enjoying the story so far!
