chapter 3

Over breakfast, the aliens explained how they ended up on the planet. Annikin, who was
a bit too smart for his own good, decided to play with the hyperdrive. He thought perhaps he could make the ship go faster and Obi-Won, being the overly indulgent master that he was, allowed his tinkering. When they jumped into warp, they’d somehow ended up in the sky above earth instead of Coruscant. The ship was low on fuel and so they’d made an emergency landing on the surface of planet.
“In all the fields in all the world, you had to crashland in Smallville” Lex laughed. The aliens didn't get the joke.
“So you’ve never heard of the Jedi Order, or the Council, or the Republic, or any of it?” Annikin asked as he shoved another fork-full of pancakes in his mouth.
“No.”
“This is very strange. Where are we master?”
“Perhaps the question is When are we, young padawan.”
The boy dropped his fork.
“You do not think-“
“Is it the past or the future? Or neither? Or maybe an alternate reality? Because you two look very human to me-“
“We are humanoid-“
“And how likely is it that two different beings could evolve on different planets and look exactly alike. Even if you are from another galaxy-“
Lex’s tirade was interrupted by a large crash. He didn’t even have to turn around to know who it was.
“Clark. Come join us. Don’t worry about the mess, the help will get it.”
The boy walked into the room and Lex could feel his nervousness. Had he always been able feel everything? It explained alot: Perhaps it wasn’t that he was ruled by his own emotion. Maybe it was just he was always ruled by everyone else’s emotions.
Clark settled in the chair next to Annikin.
“We were just discussing life on other planets.”
“Why?” The boy asked suspiciously.
“No reason.” Lex answered smiling as he popped a piece of bacon in his mouth. “Are you hungry?”
“I could eat.” The boy said sullenly. Lex sighed as the cook brought out a plate of pancakes and the boy started eating a like a man enjoying his last meal.
“Clark, the man sitting across from you is Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the boy next to you is Annikin Skywalker. They are going to be staying at the castle for awhile.”
The teenager grunted. Lex rolled his eyes. Never come between Clark and his apple pancakes.
“And he’s Clark Kent.”
Obi-Won smiled indulgently at Clark.
