A Predator Halloween
Chapter 3
For four days, D’Gon watched over his little ooman. She helped her parents unpack their belongings, move furniture, make meals for her younger siblings, even tended a burn her younger sister received, when she spilled a pot of boiled water with poultry eggs in it. It wasn’t too bad, some cool clothes at first to dull the pain, then some gentle salve to protect it. She then wrapped her hand, gave her some food in a small box, a bag of books, and rushed her out the door as a long motorized vehicle pulled up.
This was a common sight. Twice a day the adults would herd their offspring to and from the vehicle. They’d leave in the morning, and return at various times after high sun. He thought about following it, just to see what they did with the children. But decided not too, as the second day, his female ran from her house and down the road.
He was quite pleased with this, as he followed her on the rooftops, and wire poles along the roadside. She kept active through running, and even pushed herself on inclining grades. On the fourth day however, she stopped to join up with a female who dwelled near by. He wondered if this was the one the young blood warned him of. Again his female ran down the road, this time with the new female, and turned off into the children’s park.
“Morning Tya,” Carter called, coming out to meet the girl. Tya felt really sheepish. How could she explain what happened? “Care to take a run down that path?”
“You still want to run with me?”
“Sure. Any reason why I wouldn’t?”
“Well, the other day,…I wasn’t exactly…”
“Don’t worry about it. Kevin can be a bit forgetful sometimes. He usually leaves the gun at home, or at the office, or in his car. He finds he scares too many of the wrong people and kids always want to see his gun. Come on, I’ll race you.”
“No, please no, I don’t want to risk a sprain. I start a new job tomorrow.” The pair started off.
“That’s great. Mind if I ask as what and where?”
“Office admin assistant, some office near the library. The temp agency set it up. I go in, sign in, do what they tell me, sign out, they sign off on my time card, and I get paid. Easy.”
“Man, wish my job was easy like that.”
“Why? What do you do?”
“I work in Astro Physics, Neuclear Technology and applied theories.”
“Holly crap!”
“What?”
“We would have to move in next to a brain. Guess I’ll have to tell my brother that as blond as you are, you’re just way too smart for him.”
“Your little brother?”
“No. Oldest. He came out to help dad set up the clothes line out the back, the other day. Said something about kick boxing in your window?”
“Oh…Well…”
“Hey, don’t sweat. He only goes out with stupid girls. Makes him feel lie a genius or something.”
“Oh man, keep him clear of me. If I don’t out smart him, I’ll probably punch him.”
“It would look good on him.” And Carter led the way across the playground towards the trees.
“Ok, Tya, there’s a pattern to the downed trees. Some are low, some higher. You either jump, duck, or dodge. You get a good rhythm going, you just fly through. You up for that?”
“Bring it on.”
“Ok, follow me.” Carter led her through the trees.
She wasn’t kidding about the ill condition the trail was in. A lot of the gravel had been washed away by rain and spring run off. The foot bridge over the small stream was the only thing that was kept up. Of course being poured concrete and steel rails helped in that regard. On the other side, things weren’t any different. Just more downed trees than anything else.
And it was just like Carter said. She jumped the low ones, ducked some of the leaning ones, and ran over or around the debris left by others. And Carter was also right about the rhythm. She started pulling away from Carter as she started to get wound up in the enjoyment of the run.
“You’re falling behind Carter!” she teased, as she passed her.
“Hold up Tya,” she called.
“Not a chance,” she said turning back to her, but still moving down the trail and a good clip. “I’m having fun! AAAHHH!!!” She’d turned back around as the trail began to bend, and collided with a couple of city works crewmen. They all went down in a tangled mess of bodies and reflective yellow stripes. Tya scrambled free as Carter caught up.
“Tya! Are you ok?”
“Yeah, just bruised pride.”
“Damn bitch!” screeched one of the workers getting up. “Watch where the fuck you’re going!”
“Watch the mouth buster!” Tya snapped. She didn’t even tolerate that language from her older brothers.
“We didn’t know you were working down here. There were no signs.”
“Sure lady,” he said nodding his head, but his tone accused Carter of lying. “We’ve got signs all over. You blonds just don’t fucking read ‘em!”
“Excuse me!” Carter had her back up now. No one calls her a dumb blond.
“Hold it,” Tya stepped between Carter and the workers, pulling a thick strand of her hair over her shoulder. “Carter, am I blond? I thought this was natural brown.”
Carter looked at the girl’s hair. “No, I think its more a copper red myself, a very nice shade.”
“Why thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Somehow Carter found the little bit of banter quite relaxing, and just seemed to aggravate the already annoying men anyway. Anything to get back at them for the way they spoke to them.
“Are you two beauty brats finished?!”
“What’s going on here?!” The group turned to see a man in the same reflective gear & white hard hat walking up.
“Boss, these two collided with us, nearly killed me…”
“Yeah, don’t forget you called us stupid blond bitches…” Tya added.
“I did not call you stupid blond bitches!”
“Now you did!” Carter laughed, feeling it relive her tension a bit. Still the man didn’t have the right to insult them.
“Boss…”
“Quiet! Ma’am,” he said calmly, addressing Cater. “What happened?”
“We were jogging. There were no signs saying there were workers. Next thing I know, my friend comes around the bend, and runs right into your men…and before you say anything, yes it could have been avoided, but she had turned towards me to talk, and didn’t see them till it was too late. Then this one starts with his mouth and then some. I’m not gona mention the blond crack. She didn’t even have a chance to apologise before he opened his mouth.”
“Miss? Is that the way it happened?”
“Yes, and though he didn’t call us stupid blond bitches, he did call us bitches, and insinuated the stupid part with the blond crack that Carter isn’t going to mention. But I’d like to point out, I’m not a blond. I’m a copper red head.” As she tossed her hair back over her shoulder, the mouthy worker noticed her tattoo.
Just then the short wave radio on the foreman’s hip started squawking. He picked it up and pressed the button. “This is Tom, go ahead.”
“Yeah boss, this is Mike, We’re at the Sandler Playground. We found the trail, man it’s a mess up here. Thought you should be aware, there may be a couple joggers heading your way. I’ve got their tracks here. No idea when they went in though.”
“Copy that Mike. Set the signs, and head inward. We’ve got the joggers here.”
“Copy boss. Out.”
“You,” he said pointing to the mouthy worker. “Get your gear, get back to my truck.”
“But boss…!”
“Move it!! I’ve had nothing but problems with you since you got on my crew, now GET!”
“Figures! You gangbang bitches get away with all of it!”
“What!”
“You heard me!”
“I said MOVE!”
The mouthy worker grabbed Tya’s arm, just above her tattoo. “What gang is it bitch?! Do they know the drugs you deal in?! There’s families up here! With kids!!”
“Let her go!!”
“Hands off CREEP!”
“Winchester, let her go!!!” No one could get to the man fast enough before all hell broke loos.
D’Gon almost couldn’t keep up and stay hidden. The females ran as though they were being chased, but the occasional bit of laughter from them would assure him that they were alright. The older trees had become thinner, as more and more of the taller thick stands were on the ground. And running in the trees on the ground was getting harder. He couldn’t find a clearer path close to the trail, due to the low growth of shrubs and other greenery, not to mention the branches of the dead trees. If he ploughed through even cloaked, the females would know something was following them, and become fearful. He’d moved further into the trees to stay clear, only to rush back when he heard one of the females scream. When he arrived he watched as the second female helped his to her feet. Somehow she’d been knocked down by a couple of males, working on the trail removing the trees.
His female didn’t seem too upset, so he thought it best not to intervene. At the same time, he scanned them all to see if any were infested with a Goa’uld. None were, though one of the men getting up from the ground, did show signs of something. He did another scan as the group argued further, and was joined by another male. Things calmed somewhat, but heated up again, after a transmission was received by one of them. The male he was scanning, then began yelling at his female. He even went so far as to grab her left arm, and he wouldn’t let her go. She pulled, he gripped tighter, he went to move, but it was too late.
Tya really let him have it. With each word she spoke, she drove her foot to his knee, and to his stomach. “LET…GO!!” even in pain he wouldn’t let her go. Carter tried to help, but jumped back as Tya’s foot flew out again. Right to they guy’s groin. The man doubled over in pain, shock, and humiliation. His fingers finally releasing Tya’s arm. “PIG!!!” His work companion pulled him away, looking into his eyes.
“Oh christ, the fucker is stoned, boss. He’s totally high or strung out, or something.”
“Get him back to my truck; call the cops and an ambulance. I want him out of here.” He then turned to the women. “Are you alright miss?”
“Bugger hurt my arm, these are gona look real good on my job tomorrow.”
“Come on, the cops will need a statement from you. We’ll put some ice on those, help reduce the swelling, if any.”
“Thanks.”
D’Gon chuckled to himself. His little female had fire. Even he felt her blow to the guy’s groin. Of course, he didn’t know a Yautja that wouldn’t. Maybe she didn’t need as much of his protection as he thought. But still. The Goa’uld weren’t something to mess with. He was getting her off the planet.
After the statements were completed, and Tya was cleared to leave by the paramedics, the drugged worker was loaded to the ambulance and taken away. The officers, after hearing her story about her tattoo, left in their car, and the Foreman drove the women back to Carter’s home. Tya left for home, just as her mother got into the car and drove away. She didn’t have time to find out what happened, she was already late for an appointment.
Tya went inside, and up to her room. There were still boxes all over the place. They still had a lot of unpacking to do, she’d yet to find the box she’d packed her business suits in. But first, she’d get a shower. She grabbed a towel, and headed down the hall. With everyone away, she had the whole house to herself. As she relished the feel of the warm water over her skin, her bedroom window rose to open, then a few moments later closed.
D’Gon was in the house.
