chapter 3

Joey was happy she finally got some money. The guy she met along the way, damn! He was fine. It was the first person she had met so far. But, she didn't really care for him. Sure he was handsome, but truth be told he freaked her out. She just got a bad feeling. She was looking around at all the shops when she noticed a comic book shop. It was a pretty cool looking store and she had nothing else to do, and her new job wont start until tomorrow she decided to take a looksy. She walked to the door and noticed two guys at the register talking amongst them selves. Great, she thought!
She opened the door and it made a ding sound which scared her have to death. Both the guys looked up. She knew that they knew that she was new in town. She had always hated the whole new kid. One of them walked out from behind the register and walked to the isle next to the one Joey was in. He pretended like he was straitening things up.

“Can I help you with something?” the guy behind the register asked.

“Nah. I'm just looking.” Joey replied with a strange look on her face. Before Joey could look any more she noticed the boy behind the register was reaching for something under the counter. She got weirded out and started fast walking towards the door. Once she reached the door she heard a lot of loud fast engines making their way down the boardwalk. She was very curious and decided to go have a look.
She walked slowly out the door which again made a ding noise and walked toward the boardwalk. The load roar was getting even louder and she could tell it was coming in her direction. With a loud bustle of people the sound emerged out of the crowd. It was a group of guys on motorcycles.
There were 4 of them and at first she didn't recognize any of them. Then she noticed one of the guys eyes. It was the guy that she had ran into earlier that night. He was in the middle a little a head of the rest of them. He was their leader.
The other three guys had girls on the back of their bikes. They were whooping and howling and causing trouble. But, the middle one seemed to be in a trance. Like he was thinking deeply about something. Joey was happy at her self for walking away from him now. A guy on a motorcycle just not what she wanted. It was almost time to find a place to bunk up for the night so she headed towards the parking lot. She couldn't stop thinking about the man she had ran into. His eyes were like fire. She did not want to she him to see him again. But she knew she probably would. He seemed like the kind that didn't do his homework, much less ever read a book. She had a feeling that the sport around here would be " Screw the New Girl." She hated men who treated girls like they were pieces of meat. When she got to her bike in the parking lot a lot of shady looking people were gathering around, so she hoped onto the bike without a word to any of them. She spent the remainder of the night finding a place to sleep.
Joey woke up late the next day. She was still very tired, she could not find a place so she had returned to the boardwalk and hid under the deck. When she gathered all her strength to look at her clock it was already 4:30. She was tired but she needed to get up and do her hair. She started her job today and had to look good. She snuck into a restroom and washed and dressed
Her hair was a mess and she immediately tugged her brush though it. She was not really pretty. Short and skinny. Had just enough curve to her to show that she was almost a woman. Her hair was about waist length and was red , her skin was really pale that was speckled here and there with freckles. Her green eyes was hidden by glasses. She looked like the classic bookworm. A nerd. And that's want she was. She made a face and tugged at her hair. She finished brushing her hair and pulled on an outfit to wear to the boardwalk.
She didn't have much but she did have enough for where she wanted to go. She picked out a pair of jean shorts and a black shirt that said Nerd in pink lettering. She again went through her jewelry box and picked out her earrings.
By the time she had gotten ready it was already starting to get dark. She still had tons of energy but she was getting very hungry. She ran down the deck to grab a bite to eat at a stand with her 50 dollar bill she had picked the night before. She was on the boardwalk searching for some place to eat. Everything was dinners and restaurants. She didn't have time for that. She kept walking on down the boardwalk until finally she reached a good looking fast good place. It was a cheap impression of a McDonald's but instead of an M it had an E. She ate her food quickly without smelling it. It looked bad, it smelt bad, and it tasted bad. She quickly threw her food away and continued to walk the boardwalk. Joey had an hour before she started her job, she looked around for a friendly face, but she didn't see anyone worth talking to. So, she decided to take a rest and go find a bookstore.

“Guys, I'm going to the boardwalk.” David yelled through the cave to his buddies.

“Again? Dude you go there every night. We were going to go party tonight. Why don't you come with?” Paul yelled back,

“No,” David said coldly, “I have business at the boardwalk.” he said. He ran outside and jumped on is bike. He was getting sick of always spending time with the same people. He got even madder just thinking about it so he started driving faster.
He reached the boardwalk in a near minute which was 4 minutes faster then he usually went. He again passed through the huge arch way and went back to his original spot. He searched the crowd once again. Then he again noticed the red headed girl walk into a book store. This time he just got right off his bike and again came up behind her. He cleared his throat and she gasped and turned around to see the same man from the night before.

“This time I will get your name." he said staring straight into her eyes and she into his.

“Who said that I will give you my name?” she asked still staring at him.

“I did. You have a problem with it?”

“Yeah. Maybe I do!”

“Get over! So, Miss Mystery. What's your name?” he asked turning his gaze to her breasts.

“Joelle. And yours?” she returned staring at him and feeling uncomfortable, trying to decided what he was thinking.

“David.” he said.

“Well, David, I hate to cut this short but I have to go to work so... nice to..see..you again.”
David stared into her eyes one last time before she slipped out from under his gaze and walked off and leaving David to stare after her.
Damn he is so hot, Joey thought to herself as she walked away. But, she need more imported things then get in to trouble with a possible bad boy. Joey started walking toward the boardwalk again. Before she knew it she had walked into a bad part of the boardwalk. She kept walking though, thinking that she would be out of the bad part soon. She was looking down at her feet while she was walking and then she ran into a man. He was shaggy looking and very ugly.

“What're you doing down in these parts pretty lady?” the man said.

“Just walking.” Joey replied and tried to walk around the man. He jumped in front of her again to stop here.

“Oh. Well, it is a nice night for walking.” he grabbed her elbow and started dragging her into a dark alley near the boardwalk.

“HELP! HELP ME!” Joey scream but no one came. The man kept dragging her closer and closer to the alley. “HELP ME! HELP..me..please...somebody!” Joey was starting to cry. It was clear that no one was going to come to her rescue. It was the end.
He had dragged her into the alley now and was forcing her against the wall. She was struggling and trying to get away. She looked toward the boardwalk again hoping that ANYONE would come to her rescue. Joey struggled with to reach the knife she always carried, but could not reach it. Suddenly there was a bright light coming from the boardwalk. She put her hand over her eyes and was watching it. Then suddenly the man that was pinning her down just disappeared without a scream or anything. She was still stunned and the light was still there. She started walking towards it. For a second she thought she had died and was going to heaven. She was completely submerged in the light when she felt a hand grab hers. She was being pulled out of the dark alley way.
She looked in front of her to see the man, David, dragging her out of the bad part of the boardwalk.
Once they were out of the bad part he jerked around to face her, “If you know what's good for you you'll stay away from that end of the boardwalk!” David said coldly dropping her hand. He turned and started to walk away.
“Wait. Please!” Joey yelled to him. He stopped where he was and turned around to face her. “Take me with you! Where ever your going I don't care just take me with you. She was starting to cry again. Though she barely had any tears left. Her hair was getting stuck to her face. He walked back to her and pulled her hair out of her face and wiped her tears. Without a word he took her hand again and lead her back to his motorcycle.
