Chapter Three: Take Me Home Tonight
Chapter Three: Take Me Home Tonight
(Title song by Eddie Money)
If I hadn’t been so damnably hungry, she thought halfway through dinner, we could be alone somewhere else right now. Ah, well, she’d make the most of it. “So tell me about yourself,” she said, in between bites of a truly delicious ikopi steak.
Obi-Wan took a swallow from his mug of Corellian ale and shook his head. “There isn’t a whole lot to tell. I had the typical upbringing we’ve all had at the Temple here. I’ve been Qui-Gon’s padawan for about six years now. Nothing exciting, and nothing you wouldn’t know about from your own experiences.”
“I doubt that." She grinned as an idea came to mind, something to ease the almost palpable tension in the air between them and pass the time. "Why don't we play a game; you tell me something about you, I’ll tell you something about me. We can take turns.”
He ran a hand through his sandy hair. “Ok. Umm…something about me.. Let’s see…I’m a lousy Sabacc player.”
Kayla laughed aloud. “I’ll file that away for future reference. My turn now; well, as you’ve already experienced first-hand, I’m not the most dexterous creature in the galaxy.”
“I was wondering about that. How in the world do you manage with a lightsaber?” He snickered, flashing a mischievous grin.
She laughed again, almost choking on her wine this time. Note to self: that smile of his is downright dangerous. “Hey! That was a cheap shot." She caught her breath and continued. "Actually, it’s strange; my lack of grace seems to disappear whenever I’m in danger. It's always been that way. Back when I was a padawan, it aggravated Master Windu like mad, ‘cause he could never figure out why it happened, or how come I couldn't transfer the way I moved in combat over to day-to-day life, but it's evident not only in real mêlée situations, but also in practice settings as well. Care to test me?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Is that a challenge?”
Kayla smiled and shook her head, “Not at the moment, but if you ever care to take me up on it, let me know.” Oh, there are other things I’d *much* rather be doing with you tonight. “It’s your turn again, Obi-Wan.”
He smirked, and she realized belatedly that there was a good chance some of her thoughts were leaking past her shields. “Hmm, ok. Are you almost finished?”
“You’re supposed to be telling me something, not asking me a question, silly. Yes, I think I'm done here.” She forced tighter control on her shields, but a blush escaped nonetheless.
He leaned closer to her and she could feel his breath warm against her cheek as he whispered, “Good. Alright, then. I want to get out of here and go someplace where we can be alone. I don't think I can take another minute sitting here without kissing you again.”
Oh my, she thought. This was moving faster than she had expected. Although I have absolutely no problem with that; none at all! “Ok, it’s my turn again. My apartment is about two blocks away. Game over. Let’s go.” She left a handful of credits on the table for the bill and they rose to leave. She suddenly wasn’t hungry anymore; not for steak, anyway.

Kayla forced herself to concentrate on not fumbling with the lock and they were soon inside her apartment. She gestured towards a lamp in the corner and it came to light, softly illuminating the vestibule from the distance.
No sooner had she done so than Obi-Wan closed the front door behind him and leaned into her, pressing her up against the wall and kissing her passionately. She pulled him closer and reached towards the back of his head to tug the tie out of the back of his hair, threading her fingers through it once it was freed.
His hands found the clasp at the back of her belt and opened it. Her kisses left his lips and began a trail along his cheek and onto his throat. He tilted his head back and a small moan escaped his parted lips. Thus encouraged, Kayla flicked the tip of her tongue softly against the soft skin of his neck and collarbone. She heard his breath catch as she playfully nipped the base of his neck.
“Is there anywhere other than the hallway we can do this?” Obi-Wan managed to find his voice. He was starting to feel lightheaded as his blood rushed towards another part of his anatomy altogether.
She nodded and took his hand, and led him towards the bedroom. //I thought you’d never ask.//
