Chapter Three

Walking down the sidewalk, passing the nicely trimmed lawns and lovely homes of Suburban hell made her want to vomit. She hated happy, preppy, cute things. She hated what kids called fashion and music and most of all she hated her mother. Well, really Raven hated everyone in her life. She had no friends and constantly thought about slicing her wrist open. She often pictured blood flowing and flowing like a waterfall from her torn vein and her life draining away, but more often--she pictured killing her teacher, the kids at school, her mother and every other happy-go-lucky, snob that invaded her life. They were stains to her and she wouldn't miss them. She ran through the doors just as the second bell rang, pushing and plowing through people. Raven hated the crowded halls of her school or 'institution of my tortured existence'as she called it. She walked hastily into the open door of her homeroom and her portly, balding, thick-spectacled teacher smiled, "You finally managed to make it before the third bell", he said snidely and Raven glared, but silently took her seat at the back of the classroom.

When the last school bell rang, Raven walked through the packed halls and out the door. She would not go home. Her mother's boyfriend was there and he disgusted her. He was always getting into fights with her mother and leering at her. Raven smiled at the thought of castrating him and dismembering his flabby, alcohol-bloated body. She walked to the park and sat under a tree, eyes closed, trying to assume some semblance of inner-peace. She didn't find it, she never could. She touched the bruise around her eye and hissed through gritted teeth. He had gotten drunk last night and punched her knocking her to the floor, then punched her again. Her mother hadn't seen she was already passed out. Raven's rage coursed through her at the memory of last night. One day he would get his and so would her negligent good-for-nothing mother. She closed her eyes and the song "Beautiful People" played in her head. Her head swam with crimson, dark thoughts drifting in and out.
