3. Meet the Band
It was a lengthy flight from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, California. Elyse awoke from her nap feeling renewed and ready to begin work. Her new editor at Rolling Stone provided her some information about the band. The remaining hours would give her some time to go over things. When she was younger, she knew everything about her favorite band. That had been sixteen years ago. Now it was time to become an expert once more. She would start with the band’s history.

They were Black Pearl, the most popular rock band in the world. Will Turner had gotten the band together when the boys were in high school in England over twenty years ago. He had been acquainted with the others and knew that Roux had been classically trained in music. Jack Sparrow had no musical training but what he lacked in musical ability he more than made up for with his dark, handsome features and undeniable charisma. Will and Gonzo or “Dr. Gonzo” as he was now known as, worked like men possessed to learn the bass and drums. They were able to master them well enough without much difficulty. Roux taught Jack about singing and how to play guitar. It wasn't long before they gained a following playing in the local clubs. With Will's excellent marketing and negotiation skills, they soon obtained a lucrative record deal. Black Pearl became the premiere band of the eighties playing what could best be described as sensual hard rock. Jack Sparrow captivated audiences with his deep, sultry vocals and with his over the top stage presence. Roux's passionate songwriting was the heart and soul of the band. Add to the sauce, the powerful, solid rhythm of Will's bass and Dr. Gonzo's explosive drumming, and it could be called rock 'n' roll perfection.
With the popularity of grunge in the nineties, Black Pearl's popularity waned, but now the band was enjoying a full fledged revival. They were about to be bestowed with Rock music's highest honor of being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone Magazine was set to do a special edition cover story to commemorate the event. With a new CD and a sold-out tour, times were good for the band. Now they were back on top about to conquer America once again with their "Hall of Fame Tour".

Elyse smiled when she thought about what possible adventures awaited her in L.A. Joe had graciously offered his apartment to her for storing her things while she was away on assignment. It would be the first order of business to find her own place once she returned from touring with the band.
Elyse's flight was due to be in at 2:00 p.m. The first stop after dropping her luggage at Joe’s house was to meet with Will Turner. He was not only the band’s bass player, he was also their manager. She was to meet Will in his suite to go over the guidelines for the interviews. After their meeting ended she would hang out until it was time for the show at 7:00 p.m. It was going to be a grueling day and night. Elyse would be running on pure adrenaline to get through it.
