Chapter 3
Dark Agent
Chapter 3
Mara was awakened by her comlink. “Jade.”
“Mara, it’s Han. They’ve finally found what Luke was injected with.” Han stated.
“I’m on my way. I’ll be there in ten minutes.” she said as she jumped out of bed and began getting dressed.
She had returned to her apartment shortly after viewing Luke’s memories. The only reason she did is because Han and Leia threatened to sedate her if she didn’t. She pulled on her boots and rushed out the door.
When she reached Luke’s room, she found Hand and Leia speaking with the doctor. “What was it?” she demanded.
“It’s a serum called DARK AGENT.” the doctor answered.
“Are you familiar with it Mara?” Han asked when he saw her face drain of color.
“Yes. The serum was designed by Palpatine after Luke destroyed the first Death Star. It’s purpose was to use Luke’s emotions against him. The serum would tap into his rage and exploit it. Palpatine hoped that would destroy Luke. I just didn’t know it had been successfully created.” Mara explained shakily.
“Rebel spies had managed to steal the files. Once we found out about it, we gave them to the medical team. There was also an antidote that was created as well. We have already begun working on it.” the doctor added.
“It looks like Palpatine figured if he couldn’t turn Luke, he would have Luke destroy himself.” Han sighed.
“Who made the serum.” Mara growled.
“A Captain Devon.” Leia replied.
Mara’s emerald eyes flashed angrily. She jumped to her feet and spun to face the window. “When will the antidote be ready?” she questioned.
“One standard month.” the doctor said.
“That will give me plenty of time.” Mara hissed.
“Plenty of time for what?” Leia asked.
“To pay Captain Devon a visit and show him why it’s bad to target Luke.” Mara stated with an angry look.

Mara hid in the shadows of the office. It had taken nearly a month to finally locate Devon, something she hadn’t anticipated. He was hiding on the remote planet of Solarous. She stiffened as she heard the door open and close. She watched as Devon sat at his desk and turn to look out his window.
“With any luck, Skywalker would have killed that traitorous bitch Mara Jaded. It’s only a matter of time before his guilt destroys him.” Devon laughed to himself.
Quietly, Mara drew her blaster and moved to stand behind him. “Turn around Devon. Slowly, you bastard.” she ordered.
“Mar…Mara Jade. What…what a surprise.” Devon stuttered in fear as he slowly faced her.
“You picked the wrong Jedi to mess with. You made an even bigger mistake by pissing me off. I don’t take kindly to people messing with my friends. Did you think I wouldn’t find out what you did and come after you?” she growled.
“Pl…please Mara. I…I…” he begged.
“Tell Palpatine hello for me when you see him in hell.” she smiled twistedly.
He didn’t have the chance to draw his final breath. Mara shot a blaster round right between his eyes. Without looking back, she quickly and quietly left the office. Within minutes, she was back on the JADE’S FIRE and on her way back to Corusant.
“Hang on Luke. I’m coming home.” she smiled softly as she jumped into hyperspace.

“We really should wait for Mara.” Leia said.
“Lady Organa Solo, if we wait, it could be too late.” the doctor replied.
“Leia, Mara would never forgive us or herself if anything happened to Luke.” Han whispered.
“You’re right. Do it.” Leia nodded.
The doctor turned and walked to Luke’s left side. Han held Leia as the antidote was injected. Leia buried her face in Han’s chest as Luke’s body began to convulse violently. After a few minutes, Luke fell still and back into a peaceful slumber.
“The serum should be out of his system in twelve hours. We will draw and test his blood again then. If it’s clean, we will wake him.” the doctor explained.
“Thanks doc.” Han nodded as he shook the doctor’s hand.
Han turned and placed his hands on Leia’s shoulders. She was sitting at Luke’s bedside holding his hand gently in hers. “You’re going to be just fine now Luke.” she whispered.
“Love, let’s go home and get some rest. We won’t be any good to him if we’re falling down from exhaustion.” he said.
“You’re right Han. If anything changes, they can reach us at home.” she nodded.

Mara hurried through the halls of the medical unit. She was desperate to see Luke and let him know Devon was no longer a threat to him. She had received word from Leia, that the serum was fully out of Luke’s system and he would be fine. On her flight, she came to startling revelation. She, Mara Jade, was in love with Luke. She rounded a corner and quietly entered him room.
He sleeping peacefully. Mara sat in the chair and took his real hand in hers. “Hey Farmboy. I don’t know if you can hear me or not, but I took care of him. Devon can’t hurt you anymore.” she whispered as she stroked his cheek.
“Thanks.” Luke sighed as his eyes fluttered open.
“Hi.” she smiled.
“Hi yourself. Looks like you saved my butt again.” he chuckled.
“Looks like it. How are you feeling?” she asked.
“A bit tired, but I’ll live. Mara, I’m sorry for what I did to you.” he answered.
“Sshh, don’t worry about it. That wasn’t you. Just rest now. We can talk later.” she said softly, her hand resting on his cheek.
“Stay with me for a while.” he requested.
“I’ll be right here.” she nodded.
Luke gave her one last soft smile as his eye drifted closed once more. Mara continued to hold his hand as he slept. She knew once he was up and around, they needed to have a long heart to heart talk.
“I love you.” she whispered.
“Mara.” he sighed.
