Horace looked at the ground in shame. “I’m gonna get a beating, right dad?” He asked mournfully, looking up at him with large tearful grey eyes.
“Of course, you stupid fucking kid! You disobeyed me! I told you never to leave this junkyard and that the other kids’d only make fun of you.” Skip said, grabbing a belt and folding it, snapping it a bit as though to threaten Horace, who just bowed his head and sniffled a little.
Skip landed a blow across Horace’s back, drawing blood. He was angry. Horace let out a yelp of pain echoed through the junkyard as blow after blow from the belt landed across his helpless exposed back. As he was beaten Horace though of how badly it would hurt never to see Leo again, would it be worse than these stinging welts forming on his back? After a few more, the pain dulled and he decided “Yes, it would.” He thought out loud.
“Yes what would!?” His father shouted.
“Yes it would be bad of me to go out again, sir!” Horace lied.
“Damn right you are.” Skip said, stopping his beating. “You have learned your lesson, son…” He put his belt back on and walked away, leaving Horace bleeding on the floor.
As soon as Skip was gone, Horace heard something at the front gate. He walked over to it and looked around. Seeing nothing he turned to leave, but heard a voice.
“Psst! Hey! Horace! You in there?” It was Leo. Horace’s heart skipped a beat when he heard Leo’s voice and he wondered why. But not wasn’t a time to wonder. Now was a time to go be with Leo. Horace’s only friend and sole comfort in this world which treated him so badly.
“Horace….I just couldn’t stay away.” Leo said breathlessly, smiling a little. Was he blushing? Horace was too.
“Leo….I know it’s only been a few minutes, but I missed you…” Horace smiled as dashingly as was possible for his hideous features.
Leo gave a little half smile. “Hey….Do you wanna go out and have some fun, we could get something to eat or go see a movie…or just look at the stars.”
“Come on in, we can look at the stars right here.” Horace smiled back.
“Alright.” Leo said, nodding his head. The two walked off to a more lonely area of the junkyard. Horace knew he’d be beaten again and probably called a fag a couple of times for good measure if his father found Leo here. Horace didn’t consider Leo like that, or at least he didn’t think he did.
“Do you know anything about constellations?” Leo asked after about half an hour of just sitting there in silence, stargazing.
“Isn’t that when you can’t go to the bathroom?” Horace asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Is it?” Leo asked. “I thought it had to do with stars.” He shrugged. “Well, anyway, how about I stay the night?”
“Um….” Horace scratched the back of his head for a moment. “Maybe you shouldn’t….”
Leo stared at Horace for a minute, then leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek. Horace drew back from him, eyes wide. “Leo, I’m not a girl.” Horace stammered.
“No? Well I can be the girl if you like.” Leo laughed nervously, tossing back a long strand of jet black hair.
“Leo, do you even know what that means? We’re too young.”
“Well now we are, but one day we won’t be and I’ll promise you I’ll be here with you then…if you want, that is.” Leo blushed brightly.
“Well alright.” Horace smiled at Leo. He only had a slight idea what Leo meant, but he was sure he’d warm up to the idea in a few years time.
A note from Ryan: Okay, I officially hate Leo now. But that’s beside the point, the point being this chapter is so short because nothing interesting happens in it, the next chapter is where things REALLY begin to heat up for Leo and Horace and I don’t mean sexually, although that probably happened too. Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of: Monster or Man? The Breaker Mahoney Story, soon to be a best selling made for TV movie airing on Logo, you know, that channel where everyone’s gay? Because you just know there’s a lot of sexual tension here, oh yeah, and so much more love than Horace and his REAL lover. Me. No, you know what? Fuck Leo. I’m the one Horace wants, Leo’s only here because he LOOKS a little like me and I’m going to go before I capitalize one more word. Oh, right, I also want to spoil the story for you by telling you that Leo-the-tramp gets his in the end and I am not jealous no matter what Dana says.
