The Truth

Troy sat in his bed watching the sun rise, he woke up again do the fact he was suffering from ‘morning sickness’, the cause of his early times of getting sick real quick just to go away as fast as it came. Today was no different he shot up and ran into the bathroom and threw up what he had in his stomach at the time. Now he was fully dress and watching the morning come, thinking how to deal with his new problem.

‘Great, to be 17 and pregnant how am I going to explain this to everyone,’ Troy thought rereading the test results that Dr. Oakland gave him. ‘I mean I can’t hide the fact that my stomach is going to get suddenly big, but what am I suppose to say that my drunken father rape one night and that it got me pregnant because of a rare gene that I have! Oh yeah that will go over great, not to mention add more trouble then it worth.’ Troy sighed and sat up putting the papers in his bag also grabbing the x-rays pics that were given to him as well so that if anyone were to ask him to prove it he could show them. In the right light one could see the internal organs that were usually belong in a woman as well as the small fetus growing in him. Troy grab his sneakers and slid them on, knowing that sooner or later it will all come out in the open. ‘Might as well as get it over with.’

Troy headed downstairs greeting his mom and dad for breakfast, as much as he wanted to tell them now about his pregnancy he wanted to confront his dad alone about the team, he knew that he could no longer play for the rest of the season and telling him there will most likely start a chain reaction that will inform everyone what was happening. He finish his meal and headed off to school before his mom could ask any thing about what happen at the doctor. He spent most of his morning classes avoiding Gabriella, who was looking for him to see what happen and why he didn’t meet he at the mall, a confrontation he wasn’t ready for just yet, in fact he avoided all of his friends and teammates for that reason. It was just before lunch that Troy decided to confront his dad, his last class before lunch was gym, he had pretended that he forgotten his gym clothes so that he didn’t risk any injury to his child. After the class was over he waited for everyone to leave before he enter his dad/coach’s office shutting the door so no one would hear them.

“Troy!? What are you doing hear? Class is over.” his dad said when he notice Troy in his office and not at lunch.

“Coach we need to talk,” Troy said referring to him as his basketball coach for now. “It’s about the team.”

“What about it?” his coach asked concern that Troy was going to leave the team because of that night.

“I am sorry to do this but I can no longer play and the team I am here to resign as captain and from the team. Here is my uniforms.” Troy said handing him the school uniforms that he once wore proudly. He waited patiently for his coach reaction knowing that he was stun and most likely confirming his coach/dad worst fears.

“What Troy you can’t leave!” his coach shouted “The season just started and you were going to lead us to a back-to-back championship to finish your last year of high school. Don’t you remember!”

“I remember what I said but things have change and now I can’t play!” Troy said waiting for what he knew was coming next.

“If this is about that night I’ve done everything I can think of to prevent that happening ever again but if you feel uncomfortable with me as your coach I can resign and let the assistant coach take over.” dad said looking at the window to make sure that no one was near.

“Yes it’s about that night but it not because of what you are thinking.” Troy said pulling out the results and the X-rays. “the reason why I have to resign is because I’m pregnant!” His dad suddenly started laughing at this.

“Oh my hearing must be off I could have heard you say were pregnant.” dad said shaking his head.

“I did and here’s the proof.” Troy said handing both the results and the x-rays.

“But how?” his dad asked reading the results and looking at the x-rays “I mean your guy! My son!”

“It’s because of a gene that I have, it allows me to get pregnant and it very rare, and to top it off it’s hereditary meaning I inherited it from either you or mom, and it’s going to be in my no our child, that right dad I’m carrying your child!”

“Oh my gosh!” his dad shouted loudly before calming himself. “What are you going to do? Have it?”

“Well yes, I’m not going to get an abortion!” Troy said grabbing his stomach “This child is innocent it have no clue what happen that you got drunk and raped resulting in me getting pregnant. That is a coward’s way out I’m prepared to be ridiculed but I also want you to know this is my price for your mistake.” Troy exit the office before his dad could say anything else “Have Chad take my place as Captain he just as good as me.”

Troy made his way to lunch finding a quiet spot to eat not wanting to deal with Chad and his arrogance right now. He was alone for long as Gabriella sat next to him they quietly ate their lunch and were soon join by Kelsi and Taylor.

“Troy what happen yesterday? You showed up and you did return any of my calls,” Gabriella said snapping Troy out of his daze.

“Oh sorry, oh shoot I for got to call you and tell you that I couldn’t meet up with you,” Troy said suddenly realizing that he made a stupid mistake. “Sorry, Dr. Oakland told me to go laid down for the rest of the night.”

“So did she find out what wrong with you?” Taylor asked.

“Yeah but I don’t feel like talking about it right now,” Troy said looking down at his shoes “However if my gut is right I’m sure before this day is over you’ll find out.”

“AH! Mr. Bolton and Ms. Montez and friends,” they all look up to see Ms. Darbus walking up to them. “I was wondering if a talk to you for a minute.”

“Sure, we’re in no hurry,” Troy said.

“I was hoping if you young people, I know Ms. Nielsen will most definitely be, if you will be interested in signing up for the Fall Musical.” Ms. Darbus asked adjusting her glasses.

“What is it about?” Taylor asked.

“Oh, it’s a dance that tell of 8 legendary creatures who gave their lives to save the world that they love,” Ms Darbus stated holding the script. “It’s a nice story/ritual dance that Mr. Evan found one day.”

“It sound sort of fun,” Gabriella said “I am up for it!”

“Count me in,” Taylor said not wanting her friend to be in it alone.

“I don’t know,” Troy said “I can’t do anything that involve serious work.”

“What do you mean?” everyone asked at the same time.

“I really don’t want to talk about it right now, it’s just doctor order.” Troy asked “But I will try to help out in anyway possible. When the audition?”

“This afternoon, but it more like volunteering there quite lot of roles.” Ms Darbus said.

“Then I’ll stop by and take a look.” Troy said getting a weird look from Gabriella “What?”

“Don’t you have practice this afternoon?” she asked.

“Not for me,” Troy said “Doctor orders.”

“Well then I will see you all at the auditorium after school then!” Ms. Darbus said heading off with a huge smile and before Gabriella could ask any more on Troy the bell rang to send everyone to their next class.

The rest of the day went by rather quickly for Troy, before he knew it school was over and done with and he was on his way to the auditorium with Ryan who was talking about the dance and how it was to go. Elsewhere in the gym the Wildcats were all dress and getting warm-up for their practice today. Chad was looking for their captain wondering why he wasn’t here. ‘Sure I’m piss at him but it not like Troy to miss a practice.’ Chad thought as their coach came in.

“All right boys start out with the usual drill follow by some squats.” Coach Bolton said.

“Coach! Troy’s not here!” Chad said “You not even wondering where he is at?”

“Oh! Right! Sorry to inform you all like this but as of early this afternoon Troy Bolton left the team under his own decision. Danforth you are the new Captain as of this minute.” Coach Bolton said. Chad not to mention the rest of the team was shocked, and without a word Chad drop his ball and head out of the gym. “Danforth were are you going?”

“To get are original Captain back!” Chad said as he flew the door open. ‘I take it Troy didn’t tell them’ Coach thought as the rest of the team began to practice.

Back at the stadium Ryan was showing Troy some of the dance that was going to be perform in the musical. Troy stare as Ryan did a spin and then offer Troy to do the same. They were in the middle of the stage the girls and Ms. Darbus in the backstage trying to come up with a good set design. Troy suddenly felt like he was to get sick and denied Ryan’s offer as he sat down on the edge of the stage.

“You okay Troy?” Ryan asked.

“Yeah just nauseas that all,” Troy said with a smile. “But I don’t think I can do such a dance.”

“No kidding if your going to get sick just watching me,” Ryan said and duck a playful smack from Troy as he sat next down to Troy. “But seriously what’s wrong with you and don’t tell me ‘Doctor’s order’ I heard that earlier from you to Ms. Darbus, if your serious about this you can’t hide what’s been bothering you.” Troy open his mouth to say something when the auditorium door flew open and Chad in his uniform storm in.

“TROY what in hell do you think your doing?” Chad yelled as Troy sat back up and started to head over to Ms. Darbus who came out to investigate the sudden noise. “Don’t you dare walk away from me! Who do you think you are quitting the team just as the season began?” This statement stun everyone even Ms. Darbus.

“I have my reasons.” Troy said turning to face the fuming Wildcat “AND like you should really care after the way you been treating like I was a disease.” He received a very hard shove from Chad.

“You better reconsider right now because I know your dirty little secret and if you don’t want that to be share with the whole school then you better return to the team right now!” Chad said not even thinking Troy was confused at that.

“What secret?” Troy asked.

“As if you don’t know I was there at your house and I seen what you did in your room with--” Chad never got to finish that sentence as he was on the ground receiving a sudden right hook to his chin from Troy. Taylor gasped and ran over to Chad and was going to Chew Troy out but stop when she saw the hurt look and anger in Troy.

“YOU, YOU, YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT NIGHT!!!!” Troy yelled tears in his eyes as he picked up Chad and rammed him into the nearest wall holding him off the ground as he continue his yelling, no one dare to stop Troy right then. “IS THAT THE REASON WHY YOU BEEN TREATING ME THE WAY YOU HAVE!! YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT I DID THAT WILLINGLY AND YOU TOLD THE TEAM!! YOU FUCKIN’ IDIOT WHY DIDN”T YOU TALK TO ME INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO THAT EGO OF YOURS!!! I WILL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPEN THAT NIGHT I WAS RAPE!! RAPE BY A PERSON THAT I TRUSTED WITH MY LIFE ALL BECAUSE HE WAS DRUNK, SO DRUNK THAT HE DIDN”T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING WHERE HE PRETTY MUCH BEGGED ME TO CALL THE COPS! AND NOW BECAUSE OF THAT MOMENT I CAN”T PLAY BECAUSE I’M PREGNANT THANKS TO A STUPID RARE GENE!” He finally let go of Chad who was looking like a ghost now. Troy walked away from Chad.

“Troy I didn’t know I-”Chad started to say but Troy interrupted him.

“Don’t say another word Chad,” Troy said “right now I just don’t want to look at you or deal with you so just go.” Chad face twisted in horror as he realize something and took off in a hurry. The others surrounded Troy all looking at Troy as if he was insane. “YES I’m pregnant it’s been the cause of my suddenness of getting sick. There are papers and x-rays that prove it.”

“There no need for that, Troy” Gabriella said motioning Troy to sit down “Why didn’t you tell us?”

“What?!?! I just found out yesterday that I was pregnant.” Troy said.

“I THINK she means the rape part.” Ryan said.

“Oh that,” Troy said “Well to be honest I forgave him, it wasn’t something he usually do, and I mean getting drunk, so I knew he had no idea what he was doing but I did inform him if it ever happen again drunk or not that there would be a call to the police.”

“Well I guess that is your decision,” Ms Darbus said “is that why you can’t do any serious work?”

“Yeah I don’t want to risk any harm to the baby,” Troy said then realize something “Oh sorry for the language and the way I acted Ms. Darbus.”

“It’s totally understandable, Troy” Ms. Darbus said. “So how far are you along?”

“As of today one month.” Troy said “Although this isn’t how I expected to tell everybody.”

“How were you going to tell us?” Kelsi asked

“Don’t really know but it sure beats showing up to school one morning with a gut the size of a watermelon.” He said getting everyone to laugh.

“Man do you know what all is going to happen to you?” Ryan asked very curious.

“NOT to sure, Dr. Oakland is still looking into that,” Troy said “This whole male pregnancy is rather new and still under research and study. I can only imagine what’s going to happen, there obviously the big belly but my best guess is that I’ll have a lot of what women go through: morning sickness, mood swing, and what not. I wonder if my breast will inflate so that if I want to I can breast feed my kids that will be a pretty picture to see huh,” Troy said gaining another round of laughs. “You know this isn’t how I expected everyone to react to this news.”

“How did you expect us to react?” Kelsi asked.

“Oh I don’t know maybe in disgust not wanting to be near me or begging me to get an abortion.” Troy said “It’s nice to know that you really don’t feel that way. Okay I can understand a little if you feel uncomfortable with the idea I mean I ain‘t exactly thrill either.”

“Well you are right about that,” Ryan said “the idea that a guy is able to get pregnant isn’t kosher with anyone but to think that we’ll abandon you in your time of need now that is crazy true friends just don’t do that.”

“My brother right and it’s nice to know that your going to keep the child,” Sharpay said “I think it’s wrong to end a life just because you don’t want it, but I can’t say that I hate all people who do it know there are times when there really no other choice but abortion.” (A/N: this is how I feel about this subject- life is precious and I really can’t see ending the life of something that didn’t know it wasn’t wanted but I won’t judge people who do go with an abortion because it is their right and choice to do so, for whatever the reason maybe.)

“Yeah I agree with Sharpay,” Gabriella said “know that we’ll stand by your side all the way through. By the way does anyone know how to throw a baby-shower for a guy?” Everybody laughed not knowing how that would work out. “By the way how is your parents reacting to this and who’s the father?”

“About that you-” Troy started not knowing how to explain that part. He didn’t get far on it when Zeke and Jason came running in. “What do you guys want! If Chad told you why I quit I don’t want to hear anything you have to say then I am still--”

“Troy you got to come with us!! It’s Chad!” Jason said panting hard.

“He’s seriously beating the crap out of your dad!” Zeke said in better shape the Jason was “He’s calling him a sick monster, and worse your dad not even bothering to fight back!”

“What is Chad thinking?!?!” Taylor asked

“Troy what is this about?” Gabriella asked knowing he had the answer. Troy didn’t hear either if them as his eyes widen in horror and took off, Zeke and Jason following him as was the rest of the group.

Back in the gym, Coach Bolton finally decided to fight back realizing that his son would be upset with him. The team watch in shock as Chad basically take a punch in the gut and fell back. However Chad recover quickly and spun giving a low sweep kick to the coach who fell hard on his back. Chad capitalize on this by leaping on his chest and threw punches after punches to the coach’s face. Some teachers arrived and try to separate them waiting for the principal to arrive but they broke free and were at it again. They try a few more times and as the principal and some security guards arrive the fight ended when Chad and Coach Bolton were tackled by a sudden blur of a stripe blue shirt and blue jeans.

“What do you guys think you are doing?” Troy asked in a very loud manner as he effectively pinning his dad and friend down his knee push into Chad‘s throat. Neither of them made a move to stop him or to get him off of them.

“I too like to know that!” Principal Matsui asked. “Mr. Danforth you of all people know better that fighting is an automatic suspension!”

“Troy how can you defend this sick freak!” Chad asked ignoring the principal. “Because of him he ruin your life at basketball, you can’t play anymore!”

“Chad aren’t you taking this a little far?” Troy asked as they got up.

“What are you thinking! Troy you’re pregnant you can’t seriously think that you can recover from something like that!” Chad said “And it’s his fault!”

“Chad shut up!” Troy said realizing where this was going.

“NO!” Chad said “I can understand with you just being pregnant by another guy but this isn’t another person so how can you protect him!!”

“SHUT UP!” Troy said again.

“HOW CAN YOU PROTECT THE PERSON WHO RAPED YOU!” Chad yelled causing the whole room to be silent.

“Is this true? Jack? Troy?” Matsui asked looking at first Coach Bolton then Troy. Neither said a thing, one to protect his son pride the other angry at his friend stupidity.

“Troy is this true?” Gabriella said walking up to him taking his hand and make him look her in the eye. “Is it true, the person who rape you and to cause you to be pregnant, was it your dad?” Had is been anyone else he would have either lied or said nothing but he couldn’t do that to Gabriella.

“Yes,” he said looking away from her his eyes cast down to the floor “He’s the one who rape me.” The last thing he heard was her saying ‘no’ as he was grabbed by the teachers and rushed away to another room, his dad being taken down by the security guards as Principal Matsui called the police on the phone.

When it was just Chad, Taylor, Gabriella, the Evans, Kelsi, and Ms. Darbus and the Wildcats left in the gym Chad turn to face a very angry Taylor. Chad was feeling good about himself, thinking he just took off the street a monster until he face Taylor who raised her hand to smack Chad. SMACK!!! The sound echoed throughout the gym. Chad was on the ground rubbing his cheeks looking at the person he thought had smacked him, Taylor who was looking at the person who did slap Chad silly, Ms. Darbus.

“Do you realize what you have done?” Ms Darbus asked.

“Yeah I just took a sick freak off the street!” Chad said.

“Idiot do you think at all!” Ryan said

“You just ruin Troy life!” Zeke said

“What are you talking about?!?!” Chad asked.

“By law Troy is going to be removed from his parents, his mom too.” Taylor stated. “Even though she’s innocent the cops are going to suspect that this had happen before and there going to grill Troy to confess to stuff that never happen.”

“And if they don’t do that, they’re going to imply that Troy said that.” Jason continued “Then they’re going to take every student who ever had Coach Bolton and interrogate them into thinking that Coach Bolton did something wrong with them whether it by sight, touch, or something he said.”

“That’s ridiculous nothing ever happen to any of us just Troy because he got drunk.” Chad said.

“They don’t know that all they will see is an adult raping a minor, with the possibility of more.” Gabriella said.

“AND to top it all off, you will have no more games until the investigation is over, which could take the whole season.” Ms. Darbus said “and that is the procedure, the assistant coach can’t take over until the investigation is done.”

“Then there the fact that Matsui does not like homosexuals,” Ryan said “and to him Troy being pregnant means that he is gay and will think of everything possible to have Troy expel from school, or make Troy have an abortion to prove that he’s not gay. It‘s the reason why I didn‘t come out publicly in school.”

“And it is all because you didn’t think and you only cared about the game.” Zeke said.

“I-I am sorry,” Chad said

“Well it’s too late now it’s already happening as we speak.” Sharpay said. “And there is nothing we can do about it.”

“Not if I got something to say about it!” Gabriella said pulling out her phone getting ready to call Dr. Oakland for some help but the phone was snatch by Chad calling someone in a second. “CHAD what are you doing?”

“Mom I need your help,” Chad said “I made a big mistake and you’re the only one who can help out and prevent this going too far.”

In the Principal office Troy was in a middle of a stupid argument as two police officer and Matsui tried to get Troy to tell them of any other time that his dad did anything wrong to him. No matter how many times that he told them it was a one time deal they continue to insist that something did happen.

“You can’t expect us to believe that your father on a drunken night just all of a suddenly decided to rape you and leave it at that, never try to do it again? Or that he in the past even made a move on you before.” Matsui said.

“I told you before that he begged me to call the police but I said no! I knew he was drunk and that he had no clue what he was doing to me but I warn him if it happen again then I would, drunk or sober.” Troy said getting annoyed.

“I believe that is far enough gentlemen,” Troy turn to see Chad’s mother enter the room dress in a outfit he never seen her wear before.

“What are you doing here Mrs. Danforth?” Matsui asked.

“I’m been ask to represent Mr. Bolton,” Mrs. Danforth said standing by Troy “and as I can see it is important that I am here. Other than the confession of the rape, what other proof do you have that my client been molested before?”

“None.” the officer said.

“Then there is no reason for you to hold him here no is there?” she asked.

“Well no,” the officer said again.

“Is there any evidence or suspicion that Mr. Jack Bolton have done anything to any other students?” She said knowing the answer.

“No,” the officer said getting annoyed as he knew they were caught.

“So as I understand it you have nothing to hold my client here or have any real evidence to claim that Mr. Jack Bolton has done any wrong except the raping of my client. Correct?”

“Yes you‘re correct.” the officer said grabbing their things in defeat.

“Shameful trying to make my client to confess to things that never happen, the sheriff will be getting a letter from my department about your behavior and procedure. Also as per this arrest of my client father I believe that no charges were made by my client so there will be no further pursuit of this, I am fully aware that Mr. Jack Bolton will be detain for two weeks and that mandatory therapy will be in order for both my client and Mr. Jack Bolton I will have the paper work filled out and with the papers that I will be sending as well.” She said saying good-bye to the officers.

“Hmm, it’s still leave the problem of Troy being pregnant,” Matsui said “I feel Troy should be reassign to another school one more preferably to handle his conditions, unless he was getting an abortion.”

“I’m not and there is no schools anywhere that can deal with a pregnant guy because there are very few guys to get pregnant, in fact it was only recently discover that men can give birth.” Troy said.

“Well I just feel that having him here will only promote other homosexuals like himself to go around and have sex to see if they can give birth.”

“That is a prejudice’s statement, I’m straight!” Troy said standing up ready to fight Matsui.

“You expect me to believe that a straight teen is going to allow himself to get rape or be able to get pregnant unless he’s really gay!!” Matsui said challenging Troy.

“Well yes,” a new voice said “in fact, there are only ten other guys in the world known to carry the gene.” Dr. Oakland finally came into view “and of these ten, only one was gay, and one was bisexual the remaining eight guys were straight guys who were happily in a marriage with many children. And to be more precise the gene that Troy has come from his mother side, I was able to isolate it to that much so you can’t assume that he acquire it from his father indicating that he’s gay too.”

“There will be no need to as of this moment I have enough proof to issue a lawsuit against the board of directors of East High School for employing a prejudices against gays, or those who maybe can get pregnant.” Mrs. Danforth said. “of course these lawsuit might drop if you Mr. Matsui were suddenly to resign or retire.” Matsui jaw dropped and left the room knowing that he was just screwed.

“Um thanks, but how did you know that I was in trouble?” Troy asked.

“A Ms. Montez called me and told me that you had some trouble informing me the man in question had a problem with homosexuals.” Dr. Oakland said “That and I thought you might like to know some possible changes I left the info with your friends. I got to get back to my clinic. See you next month!” she left with a bow.

“I came because of Chad,” Mrs. Danforth said with a smile “he’s worry to death that his action may have cost you dearly, your parents, friends, the life that is growing in you, and whatever else that might of occurred. He know that no amount of apologies can fix this but he’s hoping by calling me to give you aid was a start.”

“It’s a start but it’s going to be a while before I can truly forgive him,” Troy said “he hurt me badly because of his ego but won’t stop considering him my friend, so let him know that?”

“I will and congratulation on your baby,” she said leaving the room Troy behind her.

Outside they ran into everyone wondering what happen. Mrs. Danforth just smile and walk up to her son giving him a kiss and whisper something in his ear. Chad smiled and gave the thumbs up sign to them as he and his mom left together. The others gather around Troy and were happy that Troy would most likely be keeping his child and stay at East High, Gabriella gave him a kiss and the cheeks and held him close. As Troy continue talking to his friends, telling them what happen he notice from out of the corner of his eyes his mom coming towards them.

“Troy!” she shouted and ran over and held him tight. “Oh thank goodness I was told on the phone that you and your father were taken by the police! I was worried to death that something happen!”

“Mom, something did happen. Can we talk somewhere private?” Troy said the others silently watch as the two walked over to Troy’s mom’s car.

“What’s wrong dear?” Troy’s mom asked.

“Dad won’t be back for a while,” Troy said “and the reason is why the police took him last month on the night that you stayed over a grandma and grandpa dad came home that night drunk, very drunk, and came to my room and raped me.”

“What!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Why didn’t you tell me or call the cops?” she asked.

“Well mainly because I knew dad didn’t know what he was doing,” Troy stated “the morning after it happen he was so sick and ashamed of himself he begged me to turn him in but stopped when you return home not wanting you to freak out. But that not all I have to tell you?”

“What is it?” she asked fearing that he might have a disease that will take his life one day.

“I am pregnant, and before you jump to conclusion or say it’s impossible it’s the truth,” Troy said seeing his mom jump in surprise. “I have a gene inherited from your side of the family, that allows me to get pregnant. There are others out there who also have this gene, ten for sure but it is rare, and this gene will be pass onto my kid. I plan on keeping the child but I just don’t know how you will think of it when considering who the other parent is.”

“Troy, your father is this child father right?” she asked and Troy nodded. She lean in and hugged him “This isn’t how I was hoping to get my grandchildren but I will not stop loving you and if you are willing to love this child then I will love this child too although do we call it your child or brother?”

“That would like considering it to be either your son or grandson the same for dad when he gets back.” Troy said.

“Well, we’ll just have to discuss this subject when he’s get back but as for now tomorrow morning we’re going shopping!”

“Shopping? What for?” Troy asked.

“To get you some clothes,” she stated with a smile “you’ll need some extra large clothing so that when your stomach expands your not force to were tight clothing that feel rather uncomfortable or expose your belly.”

“I didn’t even think about that!” Troy said “OH I got to get something from my friends, a paper that Dr. Oakland gave them.” Troy went and got the paper and together with his mom he went home however before the sun would set for the evening the city and the world would know about Troy’s pregnancy.

Next chapter is how the world reacts to Troy, or at least where he lives.
