Run to the Hills
Run to the Hills
(Iron Maiden)
“We’re going to see Grandpa?” Lori asked, sounding both intrigued and apprehensive. Maggie nodded and settled them both down on the couch, and pulled something out of her purse—sleeping pills. She handed Lori one and knocked one back herself.
“Stay with me, alright?” Maggie said seriously. “If you get lost…just call for your grandfather, okay?”
“Okay, Mom,” Lori said softly, her eyes closed. Maggie put her arm around Lori and closed her own eyes, feeling the familiar—albeit frightening—sensation of sleep overcome her.

Angelia suddenly sat up abruptly, effectively smacking Freddy in the face with her forehead. Said Dream Demon sat up, holding his face with his left hand and swearing up a storm as Angelia shoved him off of her and stood up.
“The fuck’s your problem!?” Freddy growled. Angelia only turned toward the doorway.
“Duty calls,” she replied, pulling on her glove. Freddy pulled his hand away from his face, seeing a smear of black.
“I think you broke my nose, bitch!” he griped. “And what the fuck are you talking about? I’M your duty!”
“MY duty is overseeing YOUR jurisdiction,” Angelia replied. “And right now, someone’s trying to infiltrate it.” She glanced at him. “Someone who’s NOT a kid.” She looked back at the door pointedly.
Freddy snapped his nose back into place and grimaced. “Right…” he growled. “Any idea WHO?” Angelia stared at the doorway for a few more moments before taking a step forward and vanishing. “…Thanks for the clarification, bitch,” he muttered to himself. He sat back on the bed to brood some more before suddenly bolting up.
“LORI!”

Maggie opened her eyes to see an all-too-familiar power plant.
…That, and no Lori.
“Shit…!” she swore, looking around wildly. “LORI!!! LORI, WHERE ARE YOU!?” She whipped around and ran right into someone, and screamed.
“WHOA, calm down!” It was…what was her name…? Angelia, that was it. Her father’s warden. She heaved a sigh and steadied Maggie. “Katherine, what’s wrong?”
“Lori…!” Maggie replied, still looking around. “Shit…! Lori was supposed to come with me, but she’s not HERE!”
“Lori was…? Damn it,” Angelia swore. She grabbed Maggie’s wrist. “Come on!”
“Where are we going!?” Maggie demanded.
“Freddy,” Angelia replied grimly. “You should have TOLD me you two were coming! I sensed YOU coming, but I cant sense children! I cant even FIND them!”
“What the hell does that mean!?” Maggie shouted, running to keep up with Angelia’s quickness.
“It MEANS,” Angelia shot back, “that if Freddy doesn’t find her first, then whatever the hell’s been chasing her WILL!”

Lori’s eyes shot open to find that she was once again in those dimly-lit underground tunnels. Her hand immediately shot to her side to hold onto her mother—only to find that her mother wasn’t there.
“…Mom…?” she murmured, swallowing hard. No response. Her heart hammered against her chest hard as she stood up and backed her way down the hall. “No no no…” she moaned to herself in fear. “Mom…!”
A rustling sound echoed behind her, and she whipped around to see—nothing. “…Mom…?”
“Only you and me…my little hors d’oeuvre…”
“NOOOOOO!!!!” Lori took off running down the tunnel, again hearing the lights flicker off behind her. “GRANDPA!!! GRANDPA, PLEASE HELP!!!” She tripped and fell, as she had done last time, only this time it was because a pale, skeleton-like hand was gripping her ankle. She screamed again and kicked at it with her other foot. “GRANDPA!!! GRANDPA!!!” The hand ignored her kicks and began dragging her into the darkness that shouldn’t BE so dark. “GRANDPA!!!” Closer to the darkness. “GRANDPA!!!” Closer… “FREDDY!!!”
She suddenly felt a pair of hands grab her and yank her away from the fiend who was dragging her into the dark, and suddenly, she wasn’t in the tunnels anymore.
“LORETTA!!!”
Lori turned sharply in time to see her mother grab her up and hug her so tightly Lori’s breath was snatched away. She recovered quickly and hugged her mother back. “Mom!” she sobbed. “It…it was HIM again! He GOT me!”
“No, he didn’t!” Maggie sobbed back. “Oh, Lori…” She kissed her daughter’s forehead and smoothed out her hair. “…Good girl, Lori,” she said, swallowing. “You did just as I said, and called for your grandfather.”
Lori nodded, not feeling like she had done a good job at all, and looked around. She seemed to be in…what WAS this place? The walls were metal, there was a messy desk, stuff all over the floor, and a tiny bed…that someone was sitting on.
This person looked…familiar. He was wearing a green-and-red-striped sweater, and he had dirty-blonde hair like hers, and was looking at her like he wanted to both hold her and run away from her at the same time.
Maggie noticed where Lori was looking, and saw her father’s uncertain expression on his face. “…Mom, who is that?” Lori asked her. Maggie stood up, standing Lori up with her.
“Lori,” she said softly. “…I want you to meet Freddy. Your grandfather.”
