Chapter Two:

The pod opened and Kady stretched, but made no move to get out. Jake grumbled silently, but let Max and Norm help him. He wanted to avoid getting smacked around by his sister as much as humanly possible.

“Get your lazy ass up, Kadalin Maureen Sully,” Jake grumped when he wheeled over to her pod.
Kady glared. Her name was supposed to be Caitlin, but their cousin Yancy, who was only three at the time, couldn’t pronounce Caitlin and said Kadalin instead. It stuck…obviously.

“Go fuck yourself on a pogo stick, Jacob Marley Sully,” Kady glared.
Max had said she’d feel rested, but she still felt tired for some reason. Okay, she thought to herself, the damn bedding of the pod is comfortable. THAT was why she didn’t want to move.

“Move your lazy ass, Kay,” Jake poked her foot.
Kady opened her mouth to tell him off, but Norm just scooped her up out of the pod and set her on her feet. When she got steady, she turned and thumped Norm on the chest.

“Party pooper,” She pouted.
Norm gave Jake a confused look and Jake sighed, rolling his eyes at his sister.

“She wasn’t getting up because this,” He pushed down on the cushy gel of the pod bedding, “was comfortable. The closest she came to that comfortable was the king size feather bed in her apartment.”
Kady stuck her pierced tongue out at Jake. One thing that the triplets did together was the ‘mutilation of their bodies’, aka tattoos and piercing. If Kady wanted to get a particular piercing, then her brothers had to. So that meant that Tom and Jake ALSO had pierced tongues. Kady also had a stunning tattoo on her lower back, which her avatar had now as well. Jake and Tom got to choose theirs, but only Jake got the same one as Kady. Tom had always said that Jake and Kady were the closest, but then the two would just tackle him to the floor.

“Sullys,” a voice called, Jake and Kady looking up in unison, “Colonel wants to see you in the armor bay!”
Jake and Kady finished eating, then Kady scoot into her brother’s lap, Jake pushing back from the table and wheeling away. When Trudy saw them come rolling up, she’d thought that it was just a rumor that Kady sat in Jake’s lap instead of just walking. She chuckled when she saw it was true. On an earpiece, Kady was listening to Norm, Max and Grace chatting in the lab. She heard her brother talking to Trudy about them having heavy ordinance. She laid her head on her brother’s shoulder and closed her eyes.

Trudy looked to Kady, then back to Jake. Jake did a silent shushing motion. Kady stayed with Trudy, when Jake went to Quaritch. When Jake was gone Trudy turned back to Kady.

“He wanted to see you too,” She told Kady.
Kady sneered at the thought of being near the man.

“He looks at me like I’m the campus bike, Trudy,” She confessed, “I feel like putting my fist through his fat face.”
Trudy snickered. The two women sat, chatting and just generally sitting around.

“Hey,” Trudy had a thought, “when you do finally get to go out…” She gestured generally toward the forest with her wrench, “can you tell me if you find any hot guys?”
Kady gave Trudy a look, then she nearly fell off the plane cause she laughed.

“You want me to find hot Na’vi guys?”
Trudy tried to look innocent, but having two brothers, Kady didn’t buy it. She rolled her eyes.

“I’ll ask them if I can take a picture,” She chuckled, “to remember them by after my tour is over.”
Trudy snorted, but spoke anyway.

“Like they’d let you anyway,” Trudy sat back in the seat.
“Doesn’t hurt to ask, now does it?” Kady retorted.

Four Avatars sat in Trudy’s Blackhawk, Norm, Grace, Jake and Kady. Kady and Jake were leaning out of opposite sides of the Blackhawk, loving the feel of the wind in their faces.

“Enjoying yourself, Kay?” Trudy laughed.
Jake looked back over his shoulder. Kady rolled her eyes and flipped her brother off before he could comment. She leaned her head out again and closed her eyes. She hadn’t felt this free in years. And that was BEFORE going into Cryo. She didn’t know if it was one of the good points or the bad points, but you didn’t age in Cryo. Kady and Jake still looked 22, when they were almost 30. When the ‘copter sat down, Kady and Jake jumped out together. Where her brother had a gun, she had a giant compound bow. She put her hand on her brother’s shoulder, to keep him from walking around while the two just stared at the world around them. Jake let the gun hang at his side, the now-twins holding hands.

Grace saw the way that Wainfleet was watching the twins, singling Kady out and staring at her like she was a piece of meat. And she did NOT like it. She purposely bumped against him when she walked by him.

“Stay with the ship,” She told him, passing by Jake and Kady, “One idiot with a gun’s enough.”
Kady snickered and buried her face into her brother’s shoulder. Jake scoffed.

“Traitor,” He stage-whispered, nudging his sister.
Kady stood up straight and the two followed after Grace and Norm. Both Wainfleet and Trudy noticed how the tails of the two avatars actively reached for each other, holding on to each other like the siblings where holding hands. When they were away, Kady touched on her comm to Trudy.

“Fuckwit was watching us, wasn’t he?” Kady snickered, Jake squeezing her hand.
Trudy snickered, “Yup.”
Kady kept her comm open, so that Trudy could hear things. And Trudy only, it seemed. Kady stopped, absently letting go of her brother, when she saw a monkey-type creature. She smiled softly at it.

“Hello little one,” She spoke softly, holding her hand out to it.
The monkey creature reached out, the two touching fingertips. It spied Jake over her shoulder and suddenly looked nervous. She snatched it up quickly and held it close, hushing it silently.

“It’s okay, little one,” She spoke, oblivious to the groups observers, “it’s alright.”
The monkey creature calmed down quickly and looked up at Kady. She stroked it’s ear affectionately and let it climb up on her shoulder, it’s tail wrapping around her bicep. Jake rolled his eyes at her.

“Only you, Kady,” He chuckled.
Kady stuck her tongue out at him, the monkey creature mimicking it. Kady chuckled and looked at the monkey creature.

“Kind of reminds me of Momo,” She admitted, “from that cartoon that mom used to play for us.”
She was talking about Avatar: The Last Airbender. Momo was a Monkey Lemur, almost exactly like the one on her shoulder. The monkey creature cocked it’s head at the name.

“You like that?” She asked, repeating the name, “Momo?”
The monkey creature chattered happily at the name. Grace wondered what was taking the siblings so long, walking up to see the now--named Momo on Kady’s shoulder. Kady looked up to see her when Momo tapped her on the head.

“Momo,” She smiled at the monkey, “that’s Grace,” then stage-whispered to the monkey, “she REALLY needs to get a mate.”
The monkey buried it’s face into Kady’s hair and made a snickering sound. Grace glared at Kady, who just stuck her tongue out at her. Jake took his sister’s hand and they caught up with Grace. Momo was softly chattering to Kady as she walked with her brother, Trudy chuckling in Kady’s ear. Kady barely heard Grace’s comment about being sure that they were being watched. But when Momo made a sound to the affirmative, she listened.

Then they spotted the school…or what was left of it. Kady let Momo down. The little monkey ran into the school, coming out with a scorched doll in his teeth. He climbed back up, handing his ‘prize’ to Kady.

“Oh,” She said softly, dusting off the ashes and burnt edges, “we’ll just have to fix you, won’t we?”
Grace saw the doll and smiled. It was something the children had helped her make. She pat Kady gently on her free shoulder.

“I know you’ll take care of it,” She said knowingly.
Kady handed in to Momo.

“You hold on to that, okay?” She said carefully.
Momo nodded and clutched the doll tightly to his chest. Kady followed her brother around as Grace and Norm worked. The two were still holding hands, their tails still holding on to each other. Their observers finally caught on that they were siblings, guessing they were twins since they didn’t know about Tom. A surprise for them, as well, was Kady and Momo’s attachment. Kady chuckled with childish delight when her brother as he tapped the Helicoradians and they shrank. Jake looked over his shoulder at his sister and rolled his eyes at her.

Momo chattered at her, bringing her attention to Jake. She popped her brother upside his head.

“Eyes forward, Jarhead,” She snickered.
“One foot in front of the other, Egghead,” He retorted when she almost tripped over one of the shrunken Helicoradians.
He kept tapping the tall spiral plants, not seeing what it revealed until he felt his sister tugging frantically on him. It was a bull Hammerhead Titanothere. Kady was close to fearless, but when something THAT huge, that much bigger than her was looking to trample her into pate, she had very strong fight or flight issues. She could hear Grace telling them not to run and Jake stood his ground, pulling his sister and Momo behind him, holding them close. Kady could feel Momo trembling against her, trying to burying himself under her long hair.

Jake stood his ground against it and it stopped right in front of him. But Kady’s turning her back to him, Momo trapped between them told him that something was behind them. He turned around, seeing what it was and pushed his sister behind him. He knew that Kady could protect herself, but it didn’t mean that he didn’t want to protect her still. Didn’t mean that he didn’t still have the instinct to protect her. He was the baby of the three and still felt like he had to protect her. It was a Thanator. Despite the fact that Grace and Trudy were yelling in their ears to run, Jake and Kady just felt trapped by the creature. But it was Momo’s fearful chattering that shook Kady from her staring.
