Chronicle 3: Yauts, Eat Up!!!
Key:
“ ” Human
‘ ‘ Thoughts
( ) Yaut
I was sitting in the room I was given by the Halkrath elder, R’ka, was pretty nice actually. Its not nearly as big as the grand hall I met the Yauts in but my old room was dwarfed in comparison!
It could be classified as a small house! I had a nice sized living room, a HUGE bathroom. Well, it might seem bigger due to the fact there are mostly Yaut inhabitants aboard the ship. ‘God, I’m a midget compared to those guys!’
Then there was a small kitchen nest to a door that led to a medium sized study. R’ka even got the books from my room! Unfortunately…he also got my textbooks. He thankfully got all my clothes as well.
Laying on my bed, I was kind of depressed. Back on Earth, it was now the holidays! I was missing Halloween; I actually already missed that…But I’m about to miss Thanksgiving and more importantly Christmas! NOOOO!!!!
Rolling over on my left side, now facing the wall, I began to think. ‘If these guys are gonna be my new family…maybe. I can ask Hannah if we can give it a try.’ I thought, getting up and putting on my neon green sneakers, I made my way out of my small house-sized room and began heading to Hannah’s lab.
I assume my suitors were training, so the halls were pretty empty. Since I was a human or Ooman with how they pronounce it, a female at that, the other Yautja weren’t allowed near me, the section of the ship I’m on are only where Elders are allowed. Something about how human females always smell as if they’re in heat.
R’ka said it was for my own safety which I understand. Don’t wanna be ravaged by a male just yet…I’m not even done growing.
I toyed with the translator around my neck that R’ka gave me. I only got it on the promise that I study how to speak the Yaut language. I had no problem promising that. Though the language is hard to grasp.
I knocked on the lab door, the clicking of heels heading my way told me Hannah heard me. The door then slid open, revealing the only other human on the ship. “Oh, hello Stacy. Is there something that you need, dear?” the young woman asked.
“Well, I was thinking, the holidays are coming up and well…could we maybe do a dinner for Thanksgiving? Please?” I asked curiously.
Hannah walked back into her lab, thinking with a thumb to her lip, almost chewing on the nail. “You see, I really miss my family and well…the two holidays coming up are very family-oriented holidays…” I added rather meekly, something that was rather out of character for me.
“I don’t see the harm in it. Come, let’s go ask R’ka.” she suggested, taking my hand and leading me to the Elder’s Study, I must point out, she didn’t even wait for a response from me! Oh well, gets the question answered quicker.
I’ve been in R’ka’s study before it was just as big as the Grand Hall, a literal maze of books led to the Elder’s desk. The books themselves were in countless languages. Though the Elder was very playful and friendly, he was also very curious and intelligent. Though I’ve noticed, Hannah and R’ka seem close…veeerrryyy close. ‘Not really my business. After all, I’m gonna have to choose one for my mate.’ It still felt odd to say for some reason.
The walk to the study was not a long one since the Elder’s section of the ship aren’t as big as the rest of the ship. Hannah knocked, asking permission to enter. And a deep, yet inviting bark answered yes.
Books were everywhere in small piles up to my knees. And some of these tomes were almost as thick as me! A good few of them looked very ancient.
I’m surprised Hannah wasn’t tripping over anything with the shoes she was wearing! Me on the other hand…I don’t wanna talk about it.
It took us a few minutes, but we found R’ka, his…nose buried in a book about human culture and tradition. (Good evening, Elder R’ka) Hannah greeted, smiling and bowing to the powerful alien.
While I’ve been a guest aboard the Yaut spacecraft, I’ve been observing the aliens. They are very interesting creatures. Their physiology is very close to that of humans yet a hybrid of some kind of reptile.
There is some type of beauty and grace to them. And you can’t forget their intimidating stature. Each Yaut is unbelievably tall and heavily muscled. I’ve poked them out of sheer curiosity…I’m serious! Kinda…but, they are harder then rock! Its insane!
I usually poke Bhu’ja, or Stark as I call him mostly to annoy him. Slight revenge for shooting me. Heh. I still giggle when I poke him, mostly his biceps or abs, causing the albino to tilt his head and chirp in confusion.
(Stacy actually has a request for all of us, you may enjoy it.) My translator did its job. And just to point out, I think this was made by Stephen Hawking, it sounds just like his! I laughed at that fact, confusing my hosts until Hannah explained…they still didn’t get it.
The Yautja have actually tried pronouncing my name in English. With how they say it, my name sounds like Zta’Ci, which is kinda cool.
R’ka barked at me, my translator telling me he was asking me directly. Thankfully, Hannah had helped all my new family at least basic English.
“R’ka, sir. I wanted to know if we could celebrate two of my holidays. They are very family orientated. One is Thanksgiving, when family gets together for a big feast and be thankful for each other. The other has to be my favorite, Christmas. Another holiday where family gets together, but they exchange gifts and celebrate well…family.” If I could’ve, I would have face planted on the floor. ’Yeah, real eloquent, Stace!’ I growled in my mind.
I’m assuming R’ka got the gist of what I said, gazing out the large window to see the stars and planets that the ship was passing. He turned around, facing me once again with his mandibles tilting upwards, the Yautja equivalent of a smile. (It sounds entertaining and a chance for learning more about your Ooman customs. I will allow this.) he told me, my Stephen Hawing impersonator translating every last word.
I smiled and leapt with joy, throwing my arms around R’ka’s mid-section. “Thank you so much!!!” I cheered, the large, dark crimson Elder barely moved after my show of affection. I guess R’ka found my action amusing since he let out one his hearty, bellowing roar of laughter.
He returned the affection and I then backed off an bowed, (Thank you, Elder R’ka) it was relatively easy to pick up. The Elder smiled again and bowed in return.
I ran out the door, almost hitting it as it slid open and was off to plan the meal…sorry I meant feast. I think all five of them could and would just decimate a buffet.
I was sitting at the desk in my small study, 2 weeks before the feast. I needed to get this list taken care of so we could get all the food on time.
‘Let’s see…umm would 4 turkeys and 3 whole honey hams be enough? Maybe I’ll just double it, lots of leftovers would be awesome! A lot of cranberry sauce, corn on the cob, green bean casserole, at least 10 assorted pies. Definitely strawberry rhubarb! Cornbread, apple cider, stuffing and mashed potatoes and plenty of gravy.’
I finished writing down the ‘grocery’ list. I didn’t make it cream corn because, seeing the set up the Yautja have for a mouth, it’d just be cruel. And it might be pretty humorous seeing them eat corn on the cobs. Why so much I might be asked.
Well, look at the size of my new family and there’s five of them and they will more then likely eat a whole lot! And, seeing as its their first Thanksgiving, I wanted to give them a good selection.
“Oh, and 2 or 3 roast beef sounds good. Wow, so much meat…” I then ran to Hannah’s lab and turned in the list.
Cetanu and his brother Bhu’ja were there, a check-up I suppose. I learned that the Yin and Yang Yautja were R’ka’s children and he was proud of both. But, while Cetanu is said to take after his mother, a more serious female, Bhu’ja is much like his father, very curious. It seemed he was very curious about me.
Both males bowed as I entered the room. “Hey Hannah, here’s the list for the upcoming feast!” I announced, the dirty-blond woman turning towards me, away from Bhu’ja.
Looking over the list, Hannah gave me a skeptical look. “Why would we need so much meat?” she asked , a hand to her hip.
“Well, I figured they’d eat a lot of food and it’d be nice to have lots of leftovers.” I told her, probably sounding like a scolded child.
“Well, at least you’re thinking of everyone. Cornbread and green bean casserole sounds delicious, I’ll get this sent out immediately. Thank you, Stacy.” she said with a smile on her ruby colored lips.
Bhu’ja trilled a greeting to me, he is very kind. An interesting trait between Bhu’ja and his brother are their red eyes. Which, given their skin color, makes them look more demonic but also more wicked.
I smiled and nodded to him. Another difference between the twin Yautja are their personalities, Cetanu is more withdrawn with the trademark Yautja confidence with a huge superiority complex. R’ka told me that Cetanu assumes that, as the Elder’s first born, he is in line to lead the Halkrath clan when his father passes on.
Bhu’ja is polite, honorable and thinks more then his older brother who seems to act solely on impulse and instinct. While both are desired traits in a Yaut warrior, if R’ka had to choose, he would have Bhu’ja lead since he is more thoughtful, it would be a more diplomatic choice.
I said goodbye to the brothers and went to my study to learn how to cook all the food that was coming our way.
*2 weeks later*
It was now time for the Halkrath’s first Thanksgiving, all the food was prepared which thankfully everyone helped. Nrak’ytara and Hult’ah were also back in time from a mission to reclaim a small settlement from the control of a tyrannical dictator, which both were boasting about, showing off the giant skull trophy they earned from the battle.
I also noticed that the teeth from his jaws were missing which I found odd. Hannah had been teaching me extensively about the Yaut culture and I don’t recall hearing about the warriors taking anything off their trophies unless it was already gone.
I just shrugged it off as I made my way to my seat. Bhu’ja stood up and pulled my seat out for me and pushed it back in after I sat down. “Thank you.” I told the young warrior, smiling at him.
I then noticed the stark Yaut poke the turkey in front of him. I growled a bit then swatted his hand. I know it didn’t hurt him in the slightest but he jumped at what I did. “Don’t poke your food, Bhu’ja.” I scolded sternly, receiving a nod from the alien.
I heard his father snicker a bit. Everyone was kind of dressed up. I was wearing black sandals with black leggings under a red plaid skirt and a black button up, lace blouse.
The Yaut each wore traditional armor without their helmets and weapons. The armor being a silver color.
And Hannah was wearing a long, dark blue, satin dress with a long slit on the left going all the way up to her thigh with matching heels. Her hair was even wavier then usual and she had applied dark blue lipstick and smoky eye shadow. She is a really beautiful woman.
The aliens were rather weirded out by the food but scooped plenty of meat onto their plates. Nrak’ytara seemed entertained with the cranberry sauce, poking it with his sable-hued claws then pulling it away, seeming afraid that it might devour his hand.
I thought that they would have difficulty eating the corn cobs. But, as shown by R’ka they can cheat! He used his mandibles to keep the damn thing in place while he munched on it! He chuckled deeply, more then likely hearing me growl ‘no fair’ under my breath.
I think Hannah ordered some type of wine or champagne to mix with the cider…she looked rather tipsy. “What a wonderful dinner this is.” she giggled, taking another sip of the apple cider.
All the Yauts purred in agreement. I also noticed how they used their mandibles to keep food in there mouths.
‘I’m glad everyone is enjoying themselves. Really makes this place feel more like a home.’ I also changed my thoughts into what I would do for everyone for Christmas. ’I do hope they will like their gifts.’ I smiled, sipping more cider and eating my strawberry rhubarb pie.
