Regret and Rescue
Chapter 3
Regret and Rescue
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Something was wrong. Bumblebee couldn’t pin down exactly what, but something just felt wrong.
He’d first felt it when he and Sam left that ratty diner. It started out as just a hunch, but he grew more certain of it as time passed.
After twenty minutes of this feeling becoming increasingly intense, he had to go.
He let Sam and Optimus know where he was going.
When they asked why, he told them about the strange feeling.
Optimus offered to send one of the other Autobots, or even a few NEST soldiers with him, but he preferred to do this alone.
~*~
He raced through the night toward the run-down restaurant, toward Lexi. Something was pulling at him, drawing him like a magnet, and he let it.
About halfway there he started detecting the resonance he had felt before, but this was different. This time it was cold, she was afraid, no, terrified of something. He pushed for even more speed as he felt different sensations blooming within his consciousness.
The fear was still there, but now it was joined by anger. A moment later pain was added as well, and helplessness. Something, someone was hurting her, and she couldn’t fight back. Then another sensation eclipsed the rest, horror, and just beneath it, shame. He thought she had been afraid before, but this made everything else pale in comparison.
His engine roared as he pushed himself to go even faster, now easily topping 120mph. He silently urged her to hang on, his own fear pushing to the surface as the resonance began to fade. Pain crept in again, stronger than before, even as the sensations grew faint.
The scout’s tires squealed and left smoke rising from the black streaks across the pavement as he turned sharply into the parking lot. He flashed his high beams and instantly wished he had never left her.
Lexi was sprawled on the pavement with her wrists bound in front of her. Her clothes were torn in multiple places, bruises covering the pale skin that showed through the tears in the fabric. Blood trickled from a gash on her forehead, her nose, her mouth, and myriad scrapes over the rest of her face and body.
There was something else as well, her hair and skin were damp with…seminal fluid and…urine? He struggled to keep his intakes from purging when he realized exactly what had taken place.
He knew humans were capable of all sorts of violence and depravity. He had seen war. But seeing her lying there, broken, in a puddle of semen, urine, and her own blood was just too much.
Concern overtook disgust when he noticed something else.
She wasn’t moving. She hadn’t moved since he’d arrived.
He quickly shifted out of his alt-mode and crouched next to her still form. He wasn’t picking up any other heat signatures with his sensory array. Whoever had done this had left her to die. He began mentally kicking himself for not bringing at least one of the soldiers Optimus had offered him.
How was he going to get her somewhere safe? He didn’t have time to wait for help. His only option if he wanted her to survive her injuries would be to rouse her, get her inside his alt-mode, and drive back like Unicron himself was on his heels, figuratively speaking.
Bumblebee hesitantly reached out his hand and gently nudged her shoulder. She whimpered at his light touch, curling in on herself protectively. Her hoarse whisper was so quiet he had to strain his audio receivers to understand her. “Please…no more. I’ll leave…You’ll never see me again. Please….”
He bent down low and spoke softly, not wanting to startle her. “Ms. Corvin? You’re safe now. They’re gone. Alexandra?” Relief washed over him as her head turned toward him a fraction. “Nnngh, who?” she coughed, spitting blood onto the concrete. “Who is that?”
She froze as clear jade met brilliant sapphire. Her eyes widened (a feat in itself with the bruising on her face) as she spoke. “Bumblebee? You came back. Why?”
The scout answered hesitantly, not wanting to reveal the strange resonance that had drawn him back. “I had a hunch. One of the men here when Sam and I left was acting strange. I wanted to make sure you were alright. I’m sorry. I should never have left.”
Lexi gritted her teeth and pushed herself up onto her elbows, breathing deeply in a futile effort to control the pain. After a moment she gave it up, realizing that when it hurts to breathe, breathing deeper doesn’t really help. “Don’t be ridiculous. There’s no way you could’ve known this would happen. On a different note, do you think you could help me up?”
Bumblebee reached down and gently lifted her to a standing position, letting her lean against his hand for support as she wriggled her hands free of the ragged towel that had been used to bind them. “I’m going to place you next to the door for a moment, alright?” She nodded, wincing as the motion set the parking lot spinning.
The yellow mech gently leaned her against the dingy brick that flanked either side of the glass door and quickly shifted into his alt-mode. Carefully, he pulled as close to the bricks as he dared. He lined up his passenger door with the spot she currently occupied. “Get in.”
She gritted her teeth, pushed off the wall, and dropped into the passenger seat of the waiting car, wincing as her body protested the sudden movement.
She smirked as the seatbelt fastened itself around her and the seat leaned back, allowing her to rest as he drove. “My, my, seems you’re quite the gentleman.” She murmured as she let her eyes drift shut, feeling safe for the first time in ten years.

Bumblebee eased out onto the road and began to head back to the base. The resonance he had felt before returned as soon as she came in contact with the seat. The echo in his processor that he knew was her.
At the moment that echo was radiating pain in throbbing waves, each one breaking softer as she fell into a deeper sleep.
She needed medical attention, and he wasn’t going to chance leaving her with the locals again. That being the case, there was no way he would take her to the local hospital. The only choice that left him with was the base medic or Ratchet.

Lexi woke to a bright light and what sounded like arguing. Shielding her eyes from the light, she looked around the room, confused. “Where am I?”
At the sound of her voice the arguing ceased and Bumblebee walked over and crouched next to the bed. “You’re safe Lexi. You’re at NEST base. You were badly injured and needed immediate medical attention. I wasn’t going to chance leaving you in the care of someone who might have harmed you.”
She smiled as she slowly reached out her hand to lightly touch his cheek plates. “Ever the knight in shining armor, aren’t you?”
Bumblebee fought the urge to let his optics shut off at the soft tingling that spread across his facial components at her touch, settling for dimming them as his cheek plates warmed under her fingertips. Had he been able to smile he would have as appreciation, awe, and surprisingly, affection echoed in his processor.
The pain from last night was steadily fading. As she retracted her hand to push herself to a sitting position, the tingling ceased and he shook his head, confused at the strange reaction he was having to this human woman.
No mech, femme, or any being he could recall for that matter, had ever affected him the way she did. Honestly he had no idea what these sensations even were. They were pleasant, but far from normal. He made a mental note to speak with Ratchet about it later.
A/N: Yeah yeah I know, still no sexins. Give me a chapter or two to develop things some more. Got a few surprises to pop out before that can take place...
