Chapter 2: Which Samara Was Which?

It started when Samara turned four. Of course, Aidan reflected, he was still slightly confused as to which Samara was which. He little daughter was even slowly starting to look like the other one. But he tried to keep them seperate in his mind. They weren't the same person. They couldn't be.

But then it happened.

He was expecting it. Or, at least, part of it. Izumi was screaming at him, screaming at how he didn't care about her, he didn't give her what she wanted. Which was true; Aidan really couldn't have cared less about the woman in front of him.

But Samara was in the room.

"Izumi-"

"No Aidan! I'm not going to listen to this anymore! I'm going to do what I should have done long ago: Leave you and take our daughter with us!"

It was hard to pay attention to what she was yelling. Not when he was paying attention to something else. Paying attention to the hateful glare that was crossing their innocent daughter's face. To the small puddle of water that was slowly forming around her, seeping across the carpetted floor.

Something was definitely wrong here.

"Izumi-"

"Don't you ever listen to me?! What did I just say?! I'm not going to listen to this anymore! You mistreat me, and then try to act like you're the injured party. I'm tired of it. I'm leaving; end of story!"

There seemed to be a definite chill in the room, a feeling that reminded him of the time Samara, the other Samara, was in his room. Watching, waiting for him. To come to her. And then, the feeling of her hand on his arm...

Aidan could almost hear her voice, feel her breath on his neck. 'I have you now... there's nothing you can do. I have your daughter, and I'm not going to let her go.'

The puddle of water was widening. None of this was making sense. And Izumi's endless banter wasn't helping any. Feeling a strong headache beginning to form, he shook his head and looked at his wife. Truly looked at her.

He was suprised at just how beautiful she was, standing there, black hair rolled into a tight bun. Her dark eyes with wide and vivid, and Aidan realized that, until now, he had never really seen her. Had only seen her for a weak creature. Why?

She never had to suffer through Samara.

But she had. She had given birth to her, and that in and of itself was something special. But then again, which Samara was which?

"Izumi-"

"I told you, I'm not-"

"Izumi!" His eyes widened and the word came out as a snarl. The woman stopped and stared, frightened. "Would you just shut up for a moment?!"

Samara looked up at him, and for a moment Aidan thought he was going to die. He couldn't seem to breath; every breathe was like inhaling water, choking. His lungs filled with the brackish liquid, and the pain that wracked his body, intense spasms that felt like someone was lighting him on fire, and needles being pulled through him, ripping him open-

"Please don't yell Daddy."

The words came out quietly, so faint that he had to strain to hear them. But, at the same time, Aidan felt like he couldn't have missed them, even if he hadn't been in the room.

Samara didn't want him to yell.

The water, the puddle surrounding her was gone, and only a faint ston ton the carpet was left. Giving him once last fearful glance, Izumi picked Samara up and screamed something at him about abuse, abusing them, how he wasn't healthy for their daughter. He had stopped listening long ago.

--- ( ~ * ~ ) - ( ~ * ~ ) ---

Samara laughed, cackled really, as she felt her own power growing. Growing, not through her, but through \her\. The brat that shared her name, and also shared far more than that.

The world around her crackled and bent, shattering as her concentration on it broke. For a moment she stared, shocked, but, she realized, she should have been expecting this. After her, she wasn't the only one that could tap into her power now.

Samara could, as well.

But still, she pondered, that did bring up a good point, a thought she shared with Aidan. Which Samara was which? Was there really any difference between them now?

No... perhaps not...

Which is what made this all the better.
