AN1: Hello lovelies! I guess you all saw the title so I don't really have to explain to you all that I'm once again splitting a story in two. I don't like doing it but I ran out of time since I went to visit an old friend (who I hadn't seen in years cause she lives so far away I have to go to her by train) and didn't bring my laptop cause I had only planned to stay one day and then take the train back home the same night. I ended up staying three nights. Mind you these were the three days I had off from work (Saturday, Sunday, Monday) and since I had to work all other days, including today, I didn't get enough time to write the complete story. I could have shortened it down but I wanted to do it justice cause this idea was submitted by Mrs. Bumblebee who always has awesome ideas. I'll make a deal with you all though, today part 1 next week part 2 and the week after that I'll write two stories. I'll even make one of those stories an Anung un Rama one if that's what you guys want. Also the spoiler thing for the comic is not that big, you don't have to have read the comic to understand the fic and the comic won't be ruined if you read this either (at least I hope not!)

Okay done ranting now, go read fic if you still want to. Also, this fic is a little later than usual cause I was out with some friends (all of a sudden I have a social life O.o?). Enjoy!

000 Blind pt. 1 000

John kept a firm grip on his gun as he moved through the crumbling corridors of the abandoned underground research lab, slowly making his way to the rendezvous point. The place was cold and damp and reeked of decay but he pushed on, ignoring the puddles of disgusting slush soaking through the material of his shoes and the rodents that scurried past his feet. He was all by himself but he wasn't the only one in the building, somewhere Hellboy was near, hopefully heading in the same direction as he was as they searched the building for anything suspicious. So far he had encountered nothing but in their line of work one could never be too sure.

After walking for a few more minutes the agent heard a strange noise, making a quick decision John decided to investigate (just to be sure there really wasn't anything fishy going on) as he strayed from the path he had been taking and started making his way to the source of the noise. He knew he should probably radio Hellboy in but he didn't want to call his partner in case the noise turned out to be nothing suspicious after all, Hellboy wouldn't let him hear the end of it if he dragged him all the way out here for nothing.

Passing into a corridor that was in a similar state of decay as the last one John noticed a faint, flickering light in the distance. Light and noise? Maybe this place wasn't as abandoned as they thought it to be after all. Speaking of the noise, it was getting louder now, sounding almost electric in nature, like a generator that hadn't been on for years powering up. As the agent edged closer he could see now that the faint flickering light from before came from a cracked door that someone had left open, probably on accident. Well, whoever had left the door open had let him straight to them and who was he not to take a chance like this when it was handed to him on a silver platter.

Holding his gun out in front of him John marched up to the door as quickly and silently as the sloshing liquid around his feet allowed him to. He could see now that the large wooden door was badly rotten, seemingly only held together by the mould that grew on it, and he cringed at the thought of yet another one of his suits getting ruined on a mission as he leaned against the mouldy surface and glanced through the small crack of space between the wood of the door and the stone of the walls into the next room.

The laboratory, for it was obviously just that, was large and spacious and looked exactly like what he had imagined when he thought of an abandoned secret underground lab. Most of the walls were ruined, looking like someone had taken a sledgehammer to them in a fit of rage, and the leaking ceiling posed a great safety hazard for most of the equipment, which, though old, appeared to be in good condition. Several large sturdy tables were filled with numerous vials of strangely coloured liquids and the typical stuff you'd expect to see in any laboratory like microscopes and such were strewn among them. On a different table altogether numerous beakers bubbled with boiling liquids over a controlled fire, a clear sign of recent human activity.

Obviously this place had been abandoned at some point in time but recently someone had taken up residency here and, judging by what he'd seen so far, was attempting to re-create the experiments once conducted in this place. Deciding further investigation was needed John attempted to pull the door open farther, which took a while as pieces of wood kept breaking off in his grasp, until he eventually succeeded in widening the gap enough for him to squeeze through and enter the room. Now that he was inside as opposed to looking through a crack in the doorway he could see that the room contained far more than he had at first thought. Squashed against the broken walls and even hanging over head were several large machines that rattled and whirred with electricity. Most of these machines looked old and worn but some were shiny and brand new, sticking out like a sore thumb between all the rubble and leaving no doubt in his mind that they must have been stolen.

He ventured further and found one wall that still stood for the most part, this wall was covered in dozens of ancient looking blueprints, all of which were written in a what he assumed to be German. Unfortunately his German had never been all that great and so he couldn't make out more than a couple of words here and there. Despite the fact that he couldn't make out what any of these blueprints were about he did notice a certain word that popped up multiple times on almost every single one of them.

"Kriegaffe?" John said slowly, rolling the word on his tongue as he stumbled over the pronunciation. "What's a kriegaffe?" He asked aloud, unconsciously muttering to himself as his eyes scanned over the unreadable blueprints.

"A very annoying monkey." A voice coming from somewhere behind him suddenly said as he quickly spun around to face his assailant, gun pointed at head-level. The moment his battle-trained reflexes faded though he recognized the face he had his gun pointed at as his partner's, irritation kicking in to replace the adrenaline rush as he glared up at his charge.

"Damnit, HB!" John swore as he lowered his gun but kept his glare firmly in place. "How many times have I told you not to sneak up on me like that?" The agent asked, hands poised on his hips. John knew for a fact that despite his small stature he still managed to look pretty intimidating when he really wanted to (which was the effect he was going for at the moment) but no matter how hard he tried he was never able to strike that same level of fear and regret in his charge as he did everyone else.

Hellboy, having been on the receiving end of one of John's glares too many times to still be affected by them, simply shrugged. "A couple of hundred times." The demon guessed in a joking manner, a smirk on his face. John sighed. He understood the amusement Hellboy got out of startling him, his charge really was just a big kid after all, but that still didn't mean he appreciated getting the ever-loving crap scared out of him.

"Then shouldn't you know by now not to sneak up on me?" John asked, poking the demon in the chest as he did. Hellboy didn't seem to mind the agent's finger jabbing his ribcage if the ever growing smirk on his face was anything to go by.

"But it's fun to sneak up on you." Hellboy said, hands coming up to grip his liaison's hips as he literally dragged the other closer to him. "You're just so easily startled and then you get mad at me and you know hot I think you are when you're mad." The demon cooed as he pulled the agent flush against him. John's cheeks heated up in embarrassment, it wasn't strange for Hellboy to say stuff like that (the things he said in bed were far worse) but sometimes it was still hard for him to believe the demon actually wanted him.

"You're crazy." The agent declared. Hellboy simply chuckled in response.

"Yeah, crazy for you." Hellboy said, wiggling his eyebrows at him in a suggestive manner. John burst out laughing.

"Oh my God that was totally lame." The agent said, still chuckling. "Now don't get me wrong it was kinda sweet but also really, really lame." John said as he hooked his arms around the demon's shoulders, their bodies fitting together like two puzzle pieces, as he smiled up at his sort of-boyfriend. Hellboy raised an eyebrow at him but smirked with determination a moment later.

"I'll show you lame." The demon declared as his grinning lips captured his nanny's own, muffling the small sound of surprise the agent let out over suddenly being kissed. It only took a second for John to get used to the feeling and reciprocate though, his eyes falling closed as his fingers twitched restlessly on Hellboy's shoulders. Kissing Hellboy was definitely one of the greatest feelings of the young agent's life and as their lips parted and tongues met, the wet sounds of their kiss loud in the silence, it only got better. The slick muscles of their tongues danced together, John sucking the demon's tongue into his mouth as he let the other explore the cavity he had become so intimately familiar with over the past few weeks.

No matter how many times they did this John was pretty damn sure he would never tire of it, as much as he enjoyed it though he knew this was hardly the time or the place for a make-out session, especially as those always led to other things whenever Hellboy was concerned. Knowing his charge wasn't going to be the one to break their kiss it was with great reluctance that John pulled back though a thin string of saliva still connected their lips.

"We should stop, someone could see us." John said, his voice low and full of need, the complete opposite of his words.

Hellboy shook his head. "You worry too much Scout." He smiled. "I already checked the area, not a single lab coat crazy in sight." Hellboy assured him as he dipped down to trace butterfly kisses up the column of John's neck, the agent gasped as his fingers tightened on the demon's shoulder, not sure if he was pushing the other away or pulling him closer. "Though someone should really call pest control and let them have a look at this place." His charge whispered in his ear, the deep rumble of Hellboy's voice sending liquid fire rushing through his veins despite his words not even being remotely arousing.

"S-still, we have work to do." John managed to say as he bit back a moan, no longer clutching desperately at his charge's shoulders.

Hellboy groaned. "Fine." He said as he realized John wasn't going to let him continue. Hellboy stepped back, putting some space between their bodies so he wouldn't be tempted to ravish the agent again, his body already missing the feeling of his partner pressed against him. "But you're gonna make it up to me later." The demon said, a silent promise in his voice that John was going to be 'making it up to him' all night long once they got back to the BPRD. John shivered.

"Y-yeah, sure…" The agent said, turning back to the wall of blueprints as he tried to focus on the task at hand instead of letting his thoughts drift to more x-rated things even as he felt the demon's eyes on his backside.

Looking over the faded plans and realizing he still had no clue what they meant John suddenly got an idea. He turned to Hellboy. "You know some German, right?" He asked, the demon looking at him in surprise before nodding slowly.

"Yeah, I mean I don't know a whole lot but you pick up some things along the way when you've been fighting Nazis for as long as I have." Hellboy explained and John nodded, agreeing.

"You think you can translate some of this." John asked, indicating towards the wall of prints. Hellboy shrugged.

"I can give it a shot." Hellboy said, stepping forward to stand beside the agent as his eyes scanned over the faded pieces of paper. John, too, searched the blueprints for any information that might help their case but could make out very little more than the fact that these projects were obviously Nazi funded (the swastika symbol was in every corner of the prints) and were all centered around this thing called a kriegaffe, which, according to Hellboy, was some sort of monkey.

A growl pulled John out of his thoughts after several long minutes of (uselessly) trying to decipher the German prints, the agent instantly turning in the direction of the source of the sound. The growl had come from Hellboy but by the way his partner was still staring at the prints with furrowed brows and an enraged expression on his face John figured the demon hadn't done it on conscious.

"What is it?" John asked, looking back and forth between his charge and the wall of prints in confusion. "What do they say?" He asked again, feeling anxious as the demon remained silent. A quiet Hellboy was never good, it usually meant one of two things; either someone was going to get hurt or the demon was seriously pissed. In this case it might even be both.

Hellboy inhaled sharply, his stone hand clenched in a tight fist, even as his face twisted with anger. "They're blueprint designs for several different models of the kriegaffe monkeys, a series of mentally and physically enhanced apes created by Nazi Professor Herman von Klempt." Hellboy started and by the tone of his voice John could guess this was personal to the demon.

"Professor von Klempt was a messed up bastard and dedicated Nazi supporter back in the day and even as a mere head in a jar he did all sort of unethical kinds of research for the Nazis. I met him for the first time back in '59 when he was doing experiments on peasant girls, I managed to take him out but one of his kriegaffe monkeys roughed me up a bit so I was unable to finish the job and actually kill him. We met again later and he's dead now but I had to fight another one of those monkeys to get to him, this one even more of a sadistic fucker than the last one." The demon explained, giving him the short version of what John guessed was a long (and strange) story.

"Anyways, these plans hold all sort of information on things from dna structure, to weapon plans to brain manipulation and so on. Every little thing, you name it it's there, they researched and tested and took notes so that good old Professor von Klempt had a proper set of hands for the ones he lost." Hellboy wiped a hand over his face, kept it there for a second, and let it drop again. When the hand fell John saw not only the anger that had been present before but a great sorrow as well, like the weight of one of his enemy's misdeeds was now on his shoulders.

The demon shook his head and when he looked over at John the agent saw so many emotions in those expressive eyes it was almost impossible to name them all. "The worst part though was that to make sure everything worked perfectly they tested all this stuff out on humans first."

John's eyes went wide. "Humans?" He yelled in equal parts of outrage, disbelief and denial.

Hellboy nodded, sadly. "Yeah, regular people, seen as inferior beings by those Nazi sons of bitches; black people, Jews, homosexuals…" Hellboy trailed off, glancing at him again at that last one. In that moment John saw the fear in the demon's eyes, fear that, even though times had changed now, ghosts of the past would harm John just for being born the way he was. Had it been different times it could very well have been John who was the test-subject for Nazi scientists instead of some poor, unknown soul. "Hell, they even tested some of this stuff on women and children for fuck's sake, just so they could create a helper monkey for a deranged lunatic!" Hellboy growled, his anger getting the best of him as he cursed up a storm. Figuring it was best to calm his charge down before he did something he would later regret John gently put a hand on the demon's arm, making the other look at him.

"I know its awful, HB, but you can't change what happened no matter how much you want to. It's in the past now and as much as I hate that those people suffered at least they're in a better place now." John said, giving Hellboy arm a reassuring squeeze as he gazed up at him. The demon was quiet for a second but eventually nodded slowly.

"Yeah, you're right." Hellboy said, looking, for the most part, like he was once again in control of his anger. "Sorry for freakin' out on you." The demon apologized to him and John smiled, waving it off.

"It's okay, it was completely understandable." The agent said, making sure his charge understood he didn't blame him for getting angry before removing his hand from the demon's arm.

They fell into a silence, both Hellboy and John staring at the blueprints on the wall. John knew it would probably be better (for Hellboy's sake) if they moved on and searched the rest of the building but they were on a mission and if Manning found out they didn't investigate something as major as this their heads were gonna roll.

"So…" John began, breaking the silence. "These kriegaffe monkeys." The agent said, pausing to confirm if he'd pronounced the strange word properly. Hellboy nodded at him so he continued. "They work for von Klempt?" He asked, wanting to get a few facts straight before he started drawing conclusions.

"Yeah, they work only for him actually." Hellboy said but at John's confused expression knew he had to explain further. "Part of the whole mental manipulation thing was making sure it only listened to von Klempt, that way no one could use his own invention against him." Hellboy said and John nodded, processing this new bit of information as a thought occurred to him.

"Well, if it only listened to him and he was the one that made them then these blueprints would be useless to anyone else, right?" John asked, a touch of hope tinting his voice. Despite the circumstances the corners of Hellboy's mouth briefly twitched upwards at the blatant show of optimism, the kind he sometimes wished he still had.

"I don't know." Hellboy admitted honestly. "Still, regardless of the fact if someone figured out a way to make the kriegaffe work for them too it would be impossible to do it all by themselves, you'd need a whole team of crazy scientists to get one of them working, not to mention the fact that you'd need several specialists of different kinds to get the extras von Klempt wanted installed." The demon mused, figuring that since they were only supposed to be on the look out for one person they were in the clear on that point.

John nodded but figured that if they wanted to solve this case he was going to need more info. "How did von Klempt do it? I mean, after the Nazis lost the war you'd think he lost all influences." John pondered, posing it as a question which he hoped his charge may have the answer to. Luckily for them Hellboy did.

"That's the thing about von Klempt, no matter where he went the guy always had followers, lackeys or people in high places who were willing to help him out, whether it was out of a past obligation or because they needed him to do their dirty work it didn't matter to von Klempt as long as things worked out in his favor in the end." Hellboy explained, thinking about all the people the crazy scientist simply used and discarded like they were dirty tissues easily replaced. The thought filled him with anger but he held it back, he could think about that later, after this case was solved.

"Do you think one of those followers is the guy we're looking for? Perhaps someone who idolized von Klempt and wants to continue his work for him now that he's gone?" John asked despite the fact that he couldn't even begin to fathom why someone would want to follow in a maniac's tracks.

Hellboy's eyes narrowed. "I don't know but if someone is trying out for the audition of von Klempt 2.0 then we're gonna find him and stop him before he gets the chance." The demon declared as John nodded. He couldn't agree more.

AN2: Hey, you're still here! I'm pretty sure there's like a million typos in the text above but when I write after work I just don't catch those as often as I do as when I write on my free days. Sorry to all of you if you were bothered by it but it's quite late here right now so if it's really that bad I'll probably fix it sometime.

Stay tuned for next week's part 2!
