here goes...
Alexander came to his room after a brief meeting with his generals and after that with his mother. He had to tell Hephaistion that he would leave for the war in the east the day after tomorrow, that all the preparations were prepared. He would also ask if he wanted another child. Teodor was already a year old and Alexander thought that right now was the right time to conceive another child. Not only that, but Alexander didn’t want Hephaistion to go to war with him, he wanted Hephaistion to stay behind and raise Teodor. Olympias reminded him that tomorrow Hephaistion would enter his cycle,
“Don’t ask him, just do it, he doesn’t know when his cycles come, he doesn’t know anything.”
Alexander felt like slapping his own mother when she said that, he would not deceive Hephaistion another time, he didn’t want Hephaistion to be mad at him.
Alexander saw Hephaistion singing Teodor to sleep when he fully opened the door. Alexander smiled at this picture and when Hephaistion turned around he too smiled.
Teodor was fully asleep, “My Alexander, our son grows bigger by the day. He will be a strong warrior, just like you,” Hephaistion said while placing his son in the crib.
Alexander stepped to Hephaistion and kissed him fully on the lips. He took his hands and led him towards the bed and sat him down. He began to disrobe to ready himself for bed.
“Everything is prepared for the war in the east, I will leave in two days.”
“You will leave in two days,” Hephaistion questioned.
“Yes, I will leave in two days,” Alexander replied.
“I cannot go,” Hephaistion questioned while looking to the ground.
Alexander kneeled besides the bed and took Hephaistion’s hands in his and looked into his eyes, “No, you cannot go,” he said while kissing his hands, “I need you to stay here and watch Teodor.”
Hephaistion stood up, “I no longer have to breast feed him Alexander! My milk does not satisfy his hunger, he has been eating solid food,” he said as loud as he could without waking Teodor.
Alexander didn’t know what say in response so he just came up with a different topic completely, “I want another child Hephaistion.”
“What? What does that have to do what we were talking about? Alexander you are avoiding the topic!”
“I want another child and tomorrow you will enter your cycle, you cannot go to war with a child inside of you.”
Hephaistion crossed his arms and looked away from Alexander, “Will I ever be the same again Alexander?”
“What do you mean?”
“Every time a war comes, do you intend to keep me at bay by placing a child inside of me? I am a warrior like you Alexander, I need to see the battlefield again.”
Alexander came up from behind Hephaistion and encircled him with his arms, “I just don’t want to loose you. You know how much I need you,” he said kissing his neck.
“And I won’t loose you Alexander?”
Alexander laughed, “Oh my dear Hephaistion, I am a son of a god, you will not loose me my love.”
Alexander turned Hephaistion around and looked straight into his eyes and smiled, “So what do you say?”
“About?”
“Our future child.”
