Extinguished Light
Chapter 32: Extinguished Light
She lets the sound of the engine cloud her thoughts, nothing could prepare her with what she's going to face when she gets home. Erica just hopes Eva will still love her after what she did. Carefully she parks the bike in the front, not wanting to wake anyone up, she secures the helmet and sighs. *Here we go * before she can plant a foot on the first step the door opens. Erica looks up and sees a very worried expression on Eva's face.
"Are you OK?" Eva asks meeting her half way down the stairs. Erica nods and breaks down crying, mostly because she's scared. Dom comes by the door and Eva tells him if he could park her bike inside he walks down the stairs and a cab pulls up. Mia and Brian arrive; they're all grins. Dom forces a smile on his face for his sister. Eva tries to hide her face, which is swollen from all the crying. Mia notices immediately.
"Eva, what's wrong honey?" she puts her baggage down and pulls her face towards her.
"Nothing I'm fine, let's go inside, I want to hear all about the honeymoon OK?" Eva picks up her luggage and Mia turns to Dom and frowns. Brian shakes Dom's hand and he too knows something is wrong with his friend.
~~~ In the corner, inside a black unmarked car, a man driven by envy and hatred waits for the right moment to strike. He'd rid himself of Toretto for good, without him the team would collapse. Echo Park would be his once again ~~~~
Dom pats Brian in the back and tells him they'll discuss it later, right now he just wants to spend some time with Eva and Mia. No one notices the car approaching slowly at first, when it picks up speed Brain is the one to notice. He turns around too late, all he sees are guns pointed towards them.
"GET DOWN!" he yells pushing Dom down and sprinting up the stairs. Eva, Erica and Mia's head whip towards Brian. Shots are fired, windows brake, screams are heard. It seems like the bullets are showering the front of their house. Everything happens in flash. When it quiets down the first face Dom sees is Eva *She's alright * but her face is one of horror, her hands fly to her face and she screams. Then he sees it ~ Mia is standing there a look of shock on her face, she's holding her stomach and blood slowly begins to gush out. Dom becomes deaf; he sees everything as if it's on mute. Is Mia going to die? The diamond of his life was going to takway way from him.
"MIA NO!" Brian makes it to her side just before she drops to the ground. Everyone comes out from inside the house. . All the girls are gathered around Mia and Brian, screaming, crying. Erica is holding her shoulder; she'd been grazed by a bullet but is OK. Dom gets up slowly, as if in slow motion, he doesn't want to believe what's happening. Brian holds her head up, she's still conscious, he calls the dispatch and tells them to send an ambulance. Dom pushes everyone aside and kneels down at her side, he holds her in his arms, and she looks into his eyes, tears flowing effortlessly. He places his hand on her stomach and applies pressure. Dom begins to sob desperately, he feels so vulnerable, there's nothing he can do for his baby sister. Mia tries to speak, but instead coughs up blood. The ambulance arrives only minutes later.
Dom waits for Eva to get the car, he's still standing in the same spot, clothes drenched with his sisters' blood. *It's my fault, I killed her * he'd been responsible for her his whole life. One stupid decision he'd made had gotten his sister killed ~ If only he never visited Lance ~ She'd taken care of him since she was able too.
A month before Mr. Toretto's death, he and Dom had been working at the garage. Mia came over to bring them lunch. This guy was there waiting on his car and he began to flirt with Mia. Dom noticed and smiled, it was innocent, but Mr. Toretto hadn't thought so. He chased the guy with a bat all the way down the block. Afterwards he sat Dom down and gave him the big brother speech "One day Dominic, I'm not going to be here to protect her and that's when I'm going to need you to look out for her. Always respect Mia, love her and look out for her, after I'm gone you're only going to have each other. Someday she'll return the favor and take care of you" its as if he'd know then about his death. As many siblings, they had their share of arguments and misunderstandings but she'd always been there for him. Even if they'd had an argument the night before, she would still get up in the morning, make him breakfast and prepare his lunch. She always respected his decisions, even if they involved stealing trucks and placing himself in danger.
Before he realizes it, they're walking inside the hospital, he spots Brian, he's crouched down against the wall, hands covering his face.
"Brian!" Eva says running up to him, he looks up at her and it takes him a moment to respond. "How is she?" Eva kneels down, eye level with him.
"They took her to trauma but, haven't given me any word yet" he's crying so hard, his words are slurred. All Brian can think about is their wedding day, she looked so beautiful, there was no doubt he's the luckiest man alive. If she dies, he would too; he'd refuse to live without her.
Dom paces back and forth, Eva tries to comfort him but nothing works. Eva calls home and makes sure everyone is OK, Lisa tells her that Letty and Vince are on their way to the hospital. Coco is taking care of Oscar and Erica is fine. Eva tells them to NOT leave the house under any circumstances, until they hear more about Mia's condition.
A nurse walks in the waiting room and Brian jumps up to meet her. Dom feels his heart stop and looks at Eva, she holds his hand ready for the news.
"Mr. O'Conner?" she asks, Brian nods, saying nothing. "I'm afraid I have bad news"
