Chapter 34- Dasher’s true power.
Earlier that night:
Violet looked down at the city. She was still a good few miles away but she would be there soon enough.
Mirage had been kind enough to give her a motorbike, a powerful machine, the engine size had to be twice that of the Vanisherbike. She had spent most of the trip trying not to fall off.
Violet pulled off the black coat she had worn to travel in and tossed it to the ground, revealing her glorious Vanisher suit. It felt good to be wearing it again, even better knowing that she had earned it. From a hidden pocket in the suit she pulled out her mask and took a look at it before sticking it to her face.
Masks; she knew them well and their purpose, to hide the person within and let them disappear behind the symbol of
the Super suit. It allowed the problems of Violet to ebb away and vanish for just a little while. It was easy for some Supers to become addicted to the freedom the mask brought them, she had once. But never again; now she had learned that the strength of a super was nothing compared to the strength it takes to lead a normal life and face its problems. She wore the mask of Vanisher but not the status. Her reputation had been destroyed, twisted and perverted beyond recognition. She returned now to reclaim and restore that once proud name.
She slid her mask onto her face and revved her engine. “Look out Psychewave.” she muttered as she rode toward the city.
****************
Present time.
Elastagirl crashed to the ground roughly and painfully. Her vision swam and blackened, she was falling unconscious. Taking her body to Level 2 combat ability had been draining enough but the strength of that thing would have been too much for her even if she wasn’t weakened.
She lay on the ground, barely finding the strength to keep her eyes open as Alpha walked slowly closer.
“MOOOOOOOOMMM”
The voice came from nowhere and grabbed the attention of both Super and Villain. Standing in the middle of the road was Dasher. He looked from Alpha, to Helen and back again.
“Dash.” Helen managed to gasp out weakly. She looked at him from her lying down position, too weak to sit up. “”Dash, run.”
But her son ignored her. He looked at Alpha, realising that he had done this to his mother. Alpha returned the look with a sick pleasure. He was looking forward to taking down another Super. He smiled his skull grin and stepped forward, past Helen and toward Dash.
“Hey.” She gasped out at him angrily. “Stop , come back here.” She tried top move, tried to sit up, but she couldn’t even make her limbs twitch. “You keep away from him.”
Alpha paused, but didn’t look back. “I have no business with you, now you’re defeated. I’ll kill him, then you.” He glanced over his shoulder and she saw the madness in his eyes. “You can watch from there.”
Dash glared and growled. He clenched his fists tightly as he spoke. “Bring it on. Come on you oversized tin-can. I’ll send you flying.”
Helen tried to sit up, but all her efforts brought her was a violent cough. Blood splattered to the ground. “Dash no. Don’t be stupid. He’ll kill you. Run. For God’s sake run.”
Dash continued to ignore her. “For my mother, my father, my sister, my brother. For the girl I love, the home I know and the millions of innocent people. I will defeat you.”
Alpha was less than impressed with the speech. “Are you finished? Then prepare yourself, to die.”
Dash yelled out angrily and raced at Alpha as fast as he could. The boy was just a blur of red light as he moved. He swung his clenched fist, aiming at Alpha’s mid-section. But in a blur of movement that was even too fast for Dash to follow Alpha swung his arm and cracked Dash across the cheek. The boy cried out as he flew off his feet and crashed down onto the roadside.
“Pathetic.” Alpha said, in an obviously disappointed tone. “is that the best you can do?”
**************
Earlier that night.
They were only lightweight thugs. Nothing but glorified pickpocket’s who’d seen too many martial arts movies. Yet it had taken all she had to bring them down. She wasn’t ready, not yet. Soon, but not just now.
She had expected things to be bad; with Psychewave nothing good would be happening to this city. But she hadn’t expected such chaos. The place was on the verge of destruction. Unless Psychewave was stopped soon Metroville wouldn’t survive.
Someone was coming. She shimmered herself into invisibility and hurried off as quickly and quietly as she could to safer ground. If it was an enemy she’d have the element of surprise.
She almost cried out with joy as a familiar seven foot tall furry beast ran onto the scene. He looked around in confusion at the six unconscious gang members and the burning car that had been their getaway vehicle.
He sniffed the air and she silently cursed herself. Of course. His super sensitive animal nose would be able to pick up his scent. His lips moved but she didn’t hear what he said. It didn’t take a genius to guess he had sniffed her out. The logical thing to do now would be to reveal herself to him. But she hesitated. She wasn’t ready for others to know she was back, not yet. Not until she had completed her own mission.
Forcing herself, she turned away from Shifter and hurried deeper into the city. She had to find Him. She had to bring Psychewave down.

Present time.
“Pathetic.” Alpha said, in an obviously disappointed tone. “is that the best you can do?”
Dash staggered to his feet. The blow had left him seeing stars but he tried his best to shake them off. Helen reached out a hand to him, it must have taken a lot of her strength to move her arm. “Dash.” She said breathlessly. “Run. Just run.”
Dash looked from his mother to Alpha and nodded his head. He turned and raced off, as quickly as his legs could move. Alpha watched the red blur disappear and turned back to Helen with a very evil and incredibly smug expression. “That’s what I thought.”
Helen stared in fear as he took a step towards her.
Out of nowhere came a sound, like a high pitched whine merged with a screech. Alpha looked toward the end of the long city street and the source of the noise. In the darkening sky of the growing night was a bright light on the horizon growing larger and brighter, but the sunset was behind him, what…?
He screeched in agony as a bolt of light charged by his side, clipping his left arm. He staggered, almost knocked off his feet. He stared downward in horror, his arm was gone. At the elbow were bare wires, sparking angrily. But the rest of his arm was gone. It hurt so much. “What?”
That whine came again, growing louder much faster this time. He stared and saw the light return to the horizon, it grew brighter much faster this time. The bolt of light raced by his right side this time and Alpha screamed out again. His right arm, his right arm was gone; destroyed.
“What?” He screamed in rage.
“Dash?” Helen gasped out in wonder.
************
Dash raced onwards, his speed was building faster and faster with this immense run-up. Everything around his was becoming a blur of light. He couldn’t see where he was going anymore, but his instincts were guiding him well.
Forest, Mountain, Desert, City, City, City, Ocean, Jungle, Ocean, Desert, Mountain. The world itself shot by in milliseconds. He was running faster than he ever had before. He was lapping the entire planet, running so fast that he was moving on water and land, crossing the vastest of the oceans and continents in the blink of an eye. Water parted in his wake like the red sea. The ground was churned up as he shot past. He was nothing but a blue of solid white light; living lightning, to all who saw him pass.
He cried out, feeling his muscles burn down to the core. He had never known such pain, but he wouldn’t slow down, not one bit. He needed every last ounce of speed on his side.
Alpha came into view at the end of a long tunnel of white light, he had less than a split second to react and it was enough. Dash kicked himself up from the ground, behind him the road exploded, churning up chunks the size of cars. The shockwave caused by his kick was so great. He flew through the air like a meteor at his enemy. Alpha saw nothing but a bolt of blinding white light. But he felt the immeasurable pain at it slammed into his chest. He was thrown off his feet, backwards. A shockwave spread outwards shattering the stone and glass of the buildings around them for five floors up from the ground.
Alpha ploughed into the ground, leaving an enormous deep ditch in his wake. He scraped along the ground for more than fifty feet, building up a small mountain of tarmac and rubble in front of him. Dash was on his chest the whole time, all of his speed was concentrated into his arms now; his fists pounded at Alpha’s metal armour while the rest of the world shot back into sharp focus. His arms moved so fast they were nothing but a blur of white light attached to his body. Both he and Alpha screamed loudly in their mutual pain. Alpha’s chest plate started to glow red hot, then to white. His outer shell started to melt, exposing his mechanical insides but Dash didn’t stop his barrage. Static bolts, like miniature lightning shot from his body and his suit was being pushed beyond the limits of even Edna’s design, tears appeared across the arms at the elbow and pits, holes were being worn into the gloves as each successive hit into Alpha’s molten hot body.
Alpha screeched out in his electronic voice, the agony was like the deepest pit of hell. His body sparked and exploded. Dash was thrown backwards from Alpha almost thirty feet before he crash landed onto the ground. He rolled limply ten feet and came to a stop just a couple of metres from Helen. She looked at him in Horror, fearing the worst as she stared at his still body.
Shrapnel from Alpha’s body clattered to the floor, but of Alpha himself there was nothing left, just a smoking crater in the ground and half melted gold coloured metal.
Her mothering instincts took over and Helen found strength she didn’t know she had, she managed to shuffle herself over to Dash. He was deathly pale and covered in a thick layer of sweat. His suit was ruined, the sleeves from the elbow’s downwards were gone only tatters on the edges remained. At the armpits were enormous holes torn into the suit through the action it had been forced through. Helen was breathed a sigh of relief; Dash was breathing, he was still alive.
His eyes flickered open and he looked at her, his eyes struggled to focus upon his mother, she was nothing but a flesh coloured shape to him. “Mom?” He gasped breathlessly. He was tired, so very tired. More than he ever had in his entire life. “Did I do it? Did I win?”
Helen looked at the smouldering crater and the remains of the meta that were scattered around. “You did it Dash. You saved us both.”
“Thank God.” Dash gasped. “I can’t go that fast again.” He said with total seriousness. “If I did, I won’t survive.”
“I know Dash. I know.” She said soothingly. She brushed her hand slowly over his soaked brow. “You never need to run that fast again.” She kissed his forehead. He had saved her life. He had pushed himself beyond his own limits to gain the strength to bring down the servant of Psychewave. “You were amazing.”
They both lay there in the middle of the street, neither one able to find the energy to move. Over an hour later they were found by friendly forces and taken to safety and all the help they needed.
To Be continued.
