Chapter Thirty-Eight
Xanatos paced the living area for a countless time, his hand clenching around the heavy crystal glass that held yet another drink. Heated sapphire eyes continually strayed toward the large bay window as if seeking the whereabouts of his lover. He was desperate to find Obi-Wan and unwilling to wait too long, the thought of tearing Coruscant apart seeming more appealing every minute that dragged by.
Coming to a standstill in the center of the room, he tossed back the remainder of the drink before running a hand through tangled locks of raven hair. A grimace twisted his lips as he took notice of his attire for the first time in days. Normally meticulous about his appearance, he was currently wearing a wrinkled silk shirt and badly creased pants. It was a clear indication of just how preoccupied his mind was these days. His business interests had even begun to suffer, requiring his right hand man to assume more and more of the daily running of Offworld.
All because of Obi-Wan.
His morose thoughts were interrupted by the peal of the door chime. Relaxing and bursting with eagerness after a careful scan through the Force alerted him to the identity of his visitor, he waved the door open and turned to greet his friend with hope shining in his eyes. Eitan ran a passing glance over his rumpled clothes as he moved by on the way to the liquor cabinet. It was a lesson in futility as Xanatos was forced to be patient as the Jedi poured himself a generous glass and tossed half of it back in a single gulp.
“Well?” The fallen Jedi’s impatience was clear in the brusque question.
Eitan took a seat on the plush sofa, a sigh of contentment slipping past his lips as his body sank into the comforting folds. “I found him.”
Xanatos’s heart skipped a beat at the simple words, his eyes stinging with emotion. Aware of his friend’s intense stare, he turned his back and moved over to stare blindly out the window. It was difficult to maintain a calm mien when his initial reaction was to beat the location out of his friend before rushing there and tossing Obi-Wan over his shoulder like a scene from some sappy holovid. Eitan seemed to sense and understand his feelings and sat up to expand on his tale.
“Muln and Chun actually led me right to him.” He hesitated as Xanatos’s back tensed at the mention of Bruck. “Muln was trailing Chun in order to discover Kenobi’s location and I just happened to catch them.”
Xanatos didn’t turn around as he spoke. “Did you see him?”
“Yes,” Eitan’s reply came from directly behind him, his friend resting strong hands on his shoulders. “He’s a damn gorgeous creature, Xan. Just one look at him and I understood the reason for this obsession you seem to have.”
Xanatos spun around and glared resentfully at him. “It’s not an obsession or merely sexual attraction. Do you honestly think I’d go to this much trouble just to get a piece of ass? I love him Eitan, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him, as corny as that may sound.”
“So why did you let him walk away on Telos?”
“Because I’m a stubborn idiot, plain and simple. My damnable pride wouldn’t allow me to be the one to bare my heart first and now I may find myself having to grovel in order to get him to even talk to me.”
Eitan grimaced in reaction to his words. “I won’t argue with you on that point. He told me to tell you that he neither wants to speak with, or see you again. You’re going to have a hell of a fight on your hands.”
“We both know I’m not one for losing,” Xanatos retorted. “So where is he?”
“The hotel right next door, top floor suite.” Eitan gave him a stinging slap on one pale cheek. “Go get him. I'll let myself out.”
A grin broke across Xanatos’s handsome features as he bent forward and kissed Eitan directly on the lips before hurrying toward the fresher to clean up. He was brought to a standstill by the Jedi’s next words of warning.
“Oh, and Xan? Leave the Padawans alone. They both care about your Obi-Wan a great deal and just want to protect him from getting hurt.”
Eyes locked, Xanatos eventually nodded in agreement which brought a relieved grin to Eitan’s face. Brimming with excitement, Xanatos showered and changed in record time, tossing his black cape over a shoulder on his way out the door. He was oblivious to his surroundings or the beings around him as he swept out the front door of his own hotel and into the one next door. A smile curved his lips as he marveled at just how close he’d been to his young lover. It was no wonder his body had felt strung tight since he’d arrived on Coruscant.
Bypassing the desk droid who was preoccupied with an irate client, he stepped onto a free lift and pressed the button for the top floor. As it sped upward, he made certain his clothes were in pristine order, a quick glance in the glass door assuring him that he looked his best. The lift came to a gentle stop, the doors sliding open with hush. He stepped off and strode toward the door, a black gloved hand lifting to knock, only to pause before making contact.
A quick glance around to make certain there was no one else in the hallway, he pressed his ear against the dear and stretched out with senses heightened by the Force. He could pick up three life forms from inside, all of them appearing to be still and at rest. Pressing the tips of his fingers against the keypad, he manipulated the locking mechanism with the Force, a soft clicking noise signaling success. A wide grin of satisfaction as he hit the door control and slipped inside, relocking the door behind him.
Xanatos leaned back against the door for a few minutes and allowed his gaze to adjust to the dim lighting in the room. Only the lights from the traffic outside the window gave any illumination to his surroundings. His heart dropped when he spotted the pile of sheets and pillows in the center of the room, the sofa blocking his view of the couple buried beneath them. Rage sending the blood pumping through his veins, he strode forward until he stood directly over them, a relieved sigh hissing through his teeth as he realized that Obi-Wan wasn’t one of them.
Eitan’s two Jedi Padawan were a tangle of muscled, naked limbs as they curled around one another. Faces pressed close together in sleep, the air around them was thick with the smell of sex. Admiring the two handsome young men, Xanatos shook his head in bemusement as he tried to imagine how Eitan could deny himself the pleasure of sampling such decadence. As his gaze rested on Bruck’s peaceful features, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of relief and deep satisfaction that his rival for Obi-Wan’s attention was thoroughly preoccupied.
Xanatos carefully made his way around the pair, drawn toward the closed door behind which he could sense Obi-Wan’s strong Force presence. Making certain the two Jedi were still deeply slumbering, he opened the door and entered, smiling when he saw it was able to be locked from the inside. Activating the lock, he slowly turned to stare at the figure asleep on the bed, heart lodged in his throat.
Obi-Wan was sprawled on his back, head tilted back with lips slightly parted, arms spread wide. His skin was bathed in the glow of the traffic lights, a thick coverlet bunched low around his waist. As Xanatos cautiously edged closer, the younger man murmured in his sleep, head lolling to face in his direction. Waiting until his lover seemed to settle back into sleep, the fallen Jedi removed his cloak and gloves, and toed off his boots before kneeling on the side of the bed.
Squelching the rush of desire that immediately hardened his cock, Xanatos gingerly draped himself on top of Obi-Wan. He braced the full brunt of his weight with elbows that were planted on either side of his lover’s head. His lips lightly touched Obi-Wan’s in a feather light kiss, fingers that trembled almost violently gently tracing features that appeared oddly angelic in sleep.
“I love you,” he whispered, breath stirring reddish-gold locks of hair.
Obi-Wan moaned in his sleep, long lashes beginning to flutter against his cheeks as the sound of his lover’s voice and body heat called to him. Unwilling to lose the opportunity available to him, Xanatos sent a sleep compulsion to Obi-Wan, guiding him deeper into a peaceful slumber.
“Sleep. Tomorrow is soon enough for us to deal with unresolved issues.”
Once certain his lover was settled, Xanatos maneuvered them until he was spooned up behind the man he loved. Wrapping his arms and legs around Obi-Wan, he breathed deeply of the locks of hair as he allowed himself to drift off.
