Unlikely Allies
Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Nadia spent several years on the streets. What first seemed hard to her became like second nature. When she lived with the Blackwells everything was practically handed to her. One thing that she could say about them was that they supplied her with all of the material things that she ever wanted or needed. Some of those things they could have kept and supplied her with more love instead-she always thought. Nadia learned the tricks of the trade quickly. Self-reliance was a must to survive in this world.
She resorted to everything short of selling herself to make sure that she had a place to sleep and food to eat. She never had any real family. She went from living in terror to living alone and she missed Riddie like hell. She had reached an unbelievable low in her life when she met Scott. After 3 years of wondering where she would find her next meal, she fell for him hook, line and sinker. He took her under his wing and took on the role of big brother to Nadia. He was the first person since Riddie she felt that she could tell all of her secrets to. He made sure she had everything that she needed and what she didn't have, he went out and got it personally.
Scott had lived on the streets all of his life. He had made a home for himself in an abandoned building where he had been living for two years. Nadia felt for the second time in her life that she'd found someone who cared for her.
They were inseparable from day one and living in his place was far better then living on the street. He felt she made his house a home. However, Nadia looked at him differently. She saw him as the Riddie she'd lost some years ago. He was the big brother she'd spent her days and nights with in the foster home. Nadia could sense Scott's feelings were growing beyond those of her innocent relationship with Riddie.
Scott began to do strange things that made Nadia very uncomfortable. He would walk in on her while she was bathing. He’d watch her getting dressed. From there, his flirting became increasingly more aggressive. He seemed obsessed.
Nadia knew it was time to move on so she started to save her pennies and decided to leave.
One night she awoke by an unbelievably loud noise. When she opened her eyes, there was Scott hovering above her in the dark. A pain rocked her so deeply that she could barely speak.
"You should go." Scott whispered in the dark.
"You can't stay here anymore,” he continued.
Nadia sat up and once again the sharp pain shot through her body. She reached down, grabbed her
stomach where the pain surged and pulled back a hand full of blood.
"Help me." She mumbled softly as tears started to run down her face.
"Get Out!" Scott screamed. "You come here to tease me. Then you tell me that I can't have you. I love you." He said grabbing Nadia up by her collar.
"Help me." Nadia squealed again.
"I love you and if I can't have you, no one will." Scott said dropping her to the ground and moving away.
"Get Out!" He continued to scream.
Nadia got up and stumbled to the door. She stepped out into the street bleeding profusely.
A blur of things ran through her mind as she crossed the empty street and collapsed in front of a store.
"Is this the end?" She wondered as she laid there on the sidewalk.
"What has Scott done to me?" Clinging to her last seconds of consciousness, she mumbled but in her mind, she was screaming for Riddie. She took one last look at the world before she blacked out.
