Chapter Three
Will and Jackie had no trouble getting the captain to take them to Tortuga, although he was a little curious over why the two children of a high class family would want to turn pirate.
“Don’t make no sense. I met both your mother and your father. Outstanding citizens they were. Not to mention the fact that pirates were the ones who lay waste to your home.”
They had just shrugged at the man. They didn’t see any point in letting anyone know the real reason they had for turning pirate. Not that they were ashamed of it, they just didn’t want it to have any bearing on getting where they needed to get. However, they were interested in the pirates who had attacked their home.
“Who were those pirates?” Jackie had asked. “What purpose did they have in assailing our port?”
The captain was startled by the question. “You haven’t heard of them? They were the crew of the Dark Diamond. Evil men they are. Don’t see any reason for them attacking Port Royal, but then again, the reasoning of the wicked is very hard to see.”
After their somewhat cryptic talk with the captain, they went to find Drake and Lena, figuring if they were going to be pirates, they might as well make some friends with other pirate-hopefuls. Also, they wanted to find out what their newly-made acquaintances knew about the Dark Diamond.
“The Dark Diamond? Why, the only purpose they supposedly have at the moment is hunting down the Black Pearl!” Drake exclaimed.
“The Black Pearl,” Lena said dreamily. “What I wouldn’t give to be apart of that crew.”
Will started. “The Black Pearl? Why on earth on they after it? They are no match for it!”
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Drake stated. “I’ve heard things.”
“What sort of things?” Jackie asked.
“Things like the Diamond’s captain, a man named Goza, having a score to settle with Captain Sparrow. It’s said that he’s already tried to exploit the captain’s only weak spot, and he succeeded.”
“Meaning?” Will inquired.
“This was before Will Sparrow turned up. Back then, Captain Sparrow had a soft spot for Will Turner, the son of Bootstrap Bill Turner. Word is that Goza killed him.”
* * * * *
Images flashed before his eyes. Port Royal burning. Elizabeth and Norrington lying on the ground as if dead. Two teenagers huddled together, trying desperately not remain hidden. A ship silhouetted against the night sky. And that horrid face, the face he wanted greatly forget…
Will Sparrow, formerly Turner, awoke with a start. Was what he had just dreamed true? What did it mean?
He felt Jack shift in his sleep and pull him closer. ‘Oh well,’ he thought as he settled down into Jack’s arms. ‘No use worrying about it now. If I find out it is true, I’ll worry about it then.’
