Part 4
Hoggle's small home wasn't fit for having children in. Especially small ones, but it was slightly better than the castle.
He had found a clean soft blanket to put Duncan' onto and the baby had fallen asleep sucking his thumb. The poor boy was teething and his gums were giving him trouble.
Chole was a first scared to be in Hoggle's house, and was worried about when her mother would arrive. The goblins had done their best to scare her by pulling her hairs and pinching her.
When Hoggle got home he had found her in tears. "It's my fault, I called them. I'm a bad girl and now I won't see my mommy or daddy again." She had sobbed. Hoggle consoled her the best he could. It was only when they had noticed Duncan eyeing up Hoggle's spray gun was Hoggle able to settle the girl. He has suggested she wave in front of Duncan to keep him occupied.
Sometime during that exchange Chloe had felt her mother's presence in the Underground. Sarah had that effect here. She believed in so much, she had created world inside her head. Imagination and belief, that of which is the basis of power in world beyond the veil. When she first came things had shaped themselves to suit her belief.
Jareth hhanghanged to suit her as well. Before the goblins and their king sat contentedly in their stolen city. Jareth lulled to boredom and complacency.
The Goblins started to rule themselves in their king's neglecense. That was when they took the babe.
They knew it would anger Jareth. They knew he had been watching her. Following her, listening to her dreams.
Goblins, being goblins, thought that taking what was hers would snap the king out of his daydreams. They thought they would use the babe to control the Jareth but instead she arrived and controlled them all.
Jareth was aware; he was alert, he cared, and he even loved her; all because she wanted him to.
Hoggle once a prince, now a gardener watched as a young girl turned the world upside down.
Now Jareth wanted her and her belief. He wanted her powers. For what Hoggle didn't know. All he knew was Chloe needed rest.
"Com'on Let's out you to bed."
"Will you brush my hair Hoggle?"
"Of course."
Jareth kept his back to the screen as Sarah changed. He listened to her movements reflecting on what had passed between them.
When he had set his plan in motion he was determined to remain aloof and detached. He only wanted to woo her and play on her fantasies of him. He wanted to make her love him. But instead of remaining cold and detached he was involved in every aspect of it. He revealed himself over and over again.
Her power over him was strong, very strong. He could not hide from her as well as he thought he could. And stranger indeed was it seemed the moments of weakness drew her to him like a moth to a flame.
When she came from behind the screen Jareth turned around. She loved the feeling of silk on her skin. It was decant and sensual. She wondered if it pleased him to see her this way.
"Of course it does, this colour suits you." He moved forward and touched her waist.
She looked at his gloves, curious about other parts of his body and flushed.
"No, oh no my pet. Only the touch of my hands is dangerous."
"Did I say that out loud?" Sarah asked only noticing now that he would answer her thoughts.
"Shh," he drew her close and whred red into her hair. "Never worry your secrets are safe with me." He dropped his face into her neck and placed a gentile kiss where he knew it would affect her most.
"Your thoughts are an open book to me. Long have we known of each other. You have no secrets from me."
Sarah stiffened, panicking like a rabbit. She suddenly felt exposed and vulnerable.
"Now sweetling it isn't unthinkable. It just is." Jareth knew he had to change her thoughts, or she would bolt scared of him.
"Come let us sit by the fire, it will warm you."
Jareth kept one arm around her waist and lead Sarah to the fire. When she has sat down on the bench he moved behind her and let his hands start rubbing the back of her neck.
Slowly she gave in and relaxed, still worried but less guarded.
"Talk to me Sarah, I want to hear your voice."
She rolled her head forward enjoying Jareth's movements. She tried to think of something she could say.
"How long have you been watching me?" she asked judging that to be a safe topic.
"Sarah, this like many other questions you ask have answers you already know.
"You keep saying that, but I still don't understand."
"Maybe by the end of the night you will" Jareth took his hands from Sarah and sat beside her. "More wine?"
Sarah shook her head, she had only had two sips from her goblet and that had done quite enough to turn her head.
"A heady mixture indeed Jareth"
"Say it again.." He closed his eyes.
"A heady"
"No," the king shook his head, his blonde hair moving around his face. "Say my name."
"Jareth?" When he sighed Sarah knew what he wanted.
"Jareth, not many call you that do they?"
"No, nor would I want them to. But from you it is a caress."
Sarah got a twinkle in her eye. Jareth smiled at her as she lifter her hand and stroked his face.
"It is very hard to surprise you Jareth, when you can read my mind." She smiled suddenly in control.
Jareth noticed the shift in her but could only say, "I don't like surprises Sarah. You did it to me once and I didn't like it."
"Sarah's hand stayed cupped around his chin, with her thumb stroking his bottom lip. She tipped his head so she could look in his eyes. "It wasn't a surprise and you know it." Her voice took on a deadly edge.
"Sarah," the words were a whisper, his heart in his throat. Sarah so sure of herself was overwhelming.
"Never have I surprised you. Always you have tried to subvert me, and I have always beaten you. This time will be no different." Power tinged the air around them as she moved forward and planted a harsh kiss on his lips. She gave him everything she was feeling in that kiss. Anger and joy, lust and love, adoration and control, desire and victory, and most of all power, all in on heart beat.
When she pulled away she looked at him again. "But I think I can surprise you once and a while."
Breathless Jareth looked to her. He had lost again. She knew of her power over him. "It would appear you can." He turned away, "Yet I still must try."
"Why is it I can only know your mind a part of the time?" She asked she got up to get closer to the fire and away from him. She was confused at the power between them.
"We have known each other a long time. There is a big part of what you want me to be in me. I am my own and I am what you make me."
"I make you? I don't understand you are older than I am. You're speaking in riddles."
Jareth looked at Sarah, dressed in the flimsy silk nightdress and robe, glowing in the heat of the fire. The traces of what passed between them still evident on her face. Her hair straight, dark and long as it was when she was a child. Her figure fuller now than it was then was made more alluring by the silk. He wanted to spin her mind around him and make her his as much as he was hers.
But he had lost.
"It is my nature Sarah, I am Fae. Let me.."
"No Jareth."
"Let me show you."
"No Jareth, I can't you know that."
"Let me tell you."
"Tell me about that night." Her mind flooded with images and sounds fears and emotions, and two faces.
"Don't ask me that, don't Bring him into this."
"Tell me why you came. I wanted you to, but why then of all the time I wanteu?"u?"
"Let me kiss you again and then I will tell you."
Sarah looked to Jareth and worried. Worried that despite her efforts his kiss would make her forget and loose control. Worried that his power would overwhelm her and she would succumb to the dreams and fantasies that had plagued her since she first met him.
She was worried she was enjoying this too much and he would take her and abandon her. But she wanted to know why, and she knew he was hurting.
"Yes, But away from the fire." She walked past him and brushed his shoulder. Only tonight will she give in. Only now, only for him. "On the bed. I want to hold you."
Sarah moved to the bed and sat down. Propped up on the pillows she opened her arms. "Come to me, kiss me and tell me why."
Jareth moved towards her.
