Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Jada was preparing Jenna’s breakfast before going to school. She had just gotten off the graveyard shift at the local bar. She placed the bowl of hot porridge on the table. She then fried an egg and a few slices of bacon. Breakfast was ready in less than five minutes.

“Breakfast is ready!” she announced.

Jada sat in her favorite chair to revel in the few moments of silence that she had all day. Her job was a hectic one. Slinging whiskey 8 hours straight while dodging frisky hands. There were times when she wanted to quit but she had two mouths to feed. She found solace in times spent with her daughter.

The new school year was coming off to a great start. She was afraid that Jenna wouldn’t fit in with the kids at her new school. For she had numerous problems at the last one. Kids would constantly pick on her about the rumors around town. Jada was known as “Ja-Da-Hoe” in their neck of the woods. She had made her mistakes but she tried to shield her sins from her child.

“Mommy!” a child’s voice spoke.

“Huh…oh…yes honey?”

“I’m ready to go now.”

“Okay, let’s go baby.”

During the short drive, Jada’s mind hit the “rewind” button on her life. She began remembering when Jenna was a toddler. Being a single mother was very hard on her then. She couldn’t go anywhere without her precious lil one. She was responsible for a lil life and often wished that she had help.

If only he would’ve stayed, she thought.

Her father could’ve made such a difference in their lives. She would be able to then share the load and not have to be father and mother.

Funny that I consider him her father when I don’t even know whose DNA is apart of her genes, she thought.

“Okay Mommy, I’ll see ya later,” Jenna announced.

Jada was brought out of her trance abruptly.

“Okay honey.”

She watched as Jenna met up with her friends. The young girls giggled and talked for awhile then walked toward the school’s entrance.

“I gotta get a damn grip. I shouldn’t even be thinking about those times. Things happened and now they’re over. Let’s leave them in the past,” she said aloud.

She turned the radio on to ease her mind some. That trick did wonders during the drive home. Once she entered her home and headed for her bed, the memories started to play once more. She suddenly found herself drifting deeper and deeper into her past…

***Flashback***

He walked into the tavern and instantly caught her eyes. She had never seen such a mysterious creature. Black was the fur, which covered his sweet caramel toned skin. His head was clean-shaven, screaming for her to play with it. Black goggles shielded his eyes, which only added to his sex appeal. The eyes say so much and Jada wanted to hear what his were saying.

He nonchalantly scanned the room, approaching the bartender. He ordered a drink and kept to himself. Unfortunately, he didn’t stay long. Some drunk ass fool started giving her trouble. Jada held her own for awhile but he didn’t let up. Finally, the mysterious man had to lay the shiv down on him. The poor fool just had to see who had the bigger chain. Sadly for him, he didn’t.

Jada wanted to catch him before he left but she didn’t. She didn’t get a chance to thank him. First off, baby was much too pissed off and she didn’t know what to say if she did. Secondly, she was sure that a man like him got it thrown in his face all the damn time. She didn’t wanna come off as just another skank to him. Luckily for him, she got her chance…

Somehow, he turned up at her hide away during the early morning. She was cooking breakfast when he just busted in her place. It seemed that the man thought that he had free reign since her door was left opened. He quickly shut the door behind him and hid behind the door.

“What the…who are you and why the hell are you in my house?” she said approaching him.

“Shhhh…”he said putting his finger upon her mouth.

Damn you fine and that finger is kinda tasty. And it is breakfast… Oh God I need to stop that thought before I even finish it. I don’t even know this kat, she thought.

Jada cut the jets off so the eggs wouldn’t burn the skillet. She was about to chew his ass out for barging into her crib. However, she saw two men approaching the back of her house while another ran to the front.

Hold up, aint that the drunk, who tried to holla at me the other night, she thought.

She took another look at her houseguest and realized that he was the hottie who kicked ol boy’s ass.

It didn’t take long to figure out what was going on so Jada kept her mouth shut. After all, she owed him that much.

She waited until the thugs left before interrogating the mysterious stranger.

He removed his fingers from her mouth as she backed away from him.

“I remember you from the bar two nights ago. Look, I wanted to thank you for handling that fool but you left before I got a chance.”

“No need to thank me…he had it coming. You never come between a man and his brew. But I do owe you a thank you for not ratting me out just now. So, what’s your name beautiful?”

“I almost blew your cover until I saw him. As for my name…you’ll know it when I want you to.”

“No Doubt!”

“So let me try this again…who are you?”

“To know me seems to get people killed.”

“No Doubt! So why are you still in my house then?”

“Because you want me…here,” he said flashing a smirk.

“Damn, they must’ve kicked your ass good because it seems your head is on swole.”

“About time you noticed,” he said walking closer to me.

“What…” she lost all train of thought as her eyes fell upon his sweetspot.

He just stood there flashing a toothy grin.

“Look, I could really use a place to lay low just for tonight. There’s no telling what could happen if those goons come back and I’m not here,” he pleaded.

Damn he’s right…there’s no telling what they’d do. They can always come back, she thought.

“Okay here’s the deal, you can stay but only until night fall. After that, you gotta go.”

“Hmm, that’s fair and thanks for your warm hospitality.”

“Don’t thank me yet because I might come to my senses later.”

He was amused by her comment and let out a lil chuckle. He then made himself at home at her dinner table.

“Making yourself at home I see.”

“Those eggs are cold and you’re going to have to heat them up. I figured that you might wanna throw in two more afterwards.”

“Ha…Ha…is that right? Is that your way of asking me to cook you breakfast?”

“What other way is there to ask baby?”

“That smartass answer will get you a plate of nothing with a side of a growling stomach. If your ass is looking for some food you best come correct with it papi.”

Growling as he replied, “Will you please fix me some breakfast?”

“Ha…Ha…Was that so hard?”

“Not nearly as hard as me though.”

Oh my damn…he really doesn’t know who he’s messing with. I’d put it on his ass so good…Down Jada! Oh what did I get myself into? she thought.

“Down boy…The name’s Jada by the way. So… what should I call you?” she asked cracking two more eggs.

Jada grabbed the package of bacon out of the refrigerator along with some grape juice.

“Call me Riddick.”

During the night, Jada got up to get a cup of grape juice. It was cold so she put on her robe. She walked towards the living room and there he was, sleeping in her couch. Baby slept in the buff so she got to see just how "big" his chain was.

"What the hell are you doing?" she asked.

“What does it look like I’m doing?"

"It looks like you’re butt ass naked, sleeping in my couch! Not to mention about to raise up and bounce. Those thugs are long gone and your time is up."

“Like what you see?” he asked standing up.

“Hardly!”

"Are you sure about that?"

"Very."

"I can change your mind," he said standing in front of her.

"My mind doesn’t need changing," she said backing away from him.

Jada headed towards her front door as his stone cold voice cut through her senses.

"What about the rest of you?"

"Excuse me!"

"What does it need?"

"It doesn’t need anything from you," she said as beads of sweat broke out all over her body.

"From the way you were looking at me at the bar, I’d say you do. Am I right?" he asked standing right behind her. He began sniffing her and blowing his hot breath upon her neck.

You’re right…oh so right, she thought.

"You’re…You’re…" her words trailed off as he kissed her ear.

She tried pushing him away but it did no good.

“I’m what?"

"You’re…You’re. Oh God!" She tried to fight it but her hormones won out that night…and every night.

"I told you," he said smirking.

"Shut up and kiss me,” were the last words Jada spoke that night.

Eventually, Jada wanted more than what he could give her. He didn’t like to be tied down unless they were getting freaky. Jada hated that she wasn’t his only one so she made a few new friends. She thought that would open his eyes to see what they had but it didn’t. He did the unthinkable and she never had forgiven him for that.

They’d just had an argument about him seeing other women. Jada told him how much it hurt and that she loved him. He didn’t take it well and left. He didn’t come back so she went looking for him. Jada had a feeling that he’d be at the tavern and she was right. She saw him leaving his chair, approaching the stairs. He knew that she saw him because he looked back and gave her his award-winning smirk. Jada knew what he was going to do up there and she just couldn’t take it. She ran out crying and almost made it to her place when she turned back. She had to stand up for herself. She loved him and there was no denying it. She couldn’t go on letting him get a piece, knowing that he didn’t love her back. It hurt too much to know that all she really was to him was another skank, which she tried to avoid from jump.

Jada ran back to the bar and rushed up the stairs. She knew his scent very well and easily found the room where he was. Jada knew that she didn’t wanna see what was behind the doors but she needed to see it. She didn’t waste time knocking on the door…she just busted it down. She expected him to be doing what he was but she didn’t expect it to be with her best friend, Stacy.

Needless to say, She beat her ass down and kicked his out. Though it hurt for her to let him go…she had to. He walked out of her life and into another’s arms…for good.

She kept tabs on him once he left Planet Deep and took off to Planet Dread. It seemed that he found his childhood friend, Nadia Steele. They got married on some stupid planet named Desire and he eventually got her knocked up with twins. They finally settled down on Planet Eden. What a happy lil family they’ve become. She wanted to be the one whom he’d commit to. Now he was living a life…without her in it.

***End of Flashback***

"Oooh Riddick…" Jada uttered.
