Chapter Four.
The Resurrection.
The snow still hadn't cleared.
It was deep night and the full moon was looking over the clearing that Jack, Oona and Gump were walking into.
The body of the dead stallion lay in the snow, it's body nearly completely covered by the snow, which looked dull in comparison to the unicorn's pure white.
Gump walked over to it and lay his hand on the cold body; he sighed loudly and looked over to Jack.
"I don't entirely know if this will work Jack."
He looked back down to the stallion, but tensed as he heard a noise coming from the trees in front of him. He quickly drew an arrow and placed it in his bow, ready to strike at any moment.
He saw a quick flash of pure white and lowered his arrow knowing what it was.
The mare unicorn walked slowly out of the trees and over to her mates cold body covered in snow.
She lowered her head to his neck and nudged trying to wake him up. When he didn't move she looked up at Jack and neighed loudly.
Jack seemed to come out of a trance, and began walking over to the unicorns.
He pulled the alicorn out from his belt and knelt down to the stallion's head looking sadly upon the small stump that remained of his once beautiful horn.
As if he had always known what to do, he reached over to the stump and placed his hand around it, his other hand moved the alicorn to the stump and placed on top of it.
For what seemed like an eternity nothing happened then Jack felt heat rising from the alicorn and as if in slow motion the two separate parts started to merge together and a golden glow began to emanate from the connection that was forming.
Soon the alicorn had been completely reconnected to the stallion but still the unicorn did not move.
The mare nudged his neck again more forcefully this time, and then neighed once again stamping her front legs impatiently.
Jack looked over to Gump the question everyone was thinking in his eyes.
Gump merely stared back with the same confused expression on his face, when his eyes fell back upon the stallion once again and widened in surprise.
Jack turned quickly back to the stallion and froze in amazement.
The stallion was shaking its head as if it had just woke from a long sleep, blinking its eyes quickly.
It began to try to stand and fell over quiet a few times before finally managing to rise onto its four legs. It shook its head one more time as the mare, who had been quietly waiting in the side lines as the stallion had recovered it's feet, walked slowly over to him and rested her head over his neck closing her eyes in relief, as she had her mate back.
Suddenly she opened her eyes and stared intently at Oona who had remained silent for the entire process.
Suddenly the air was filled with the sound of the unicorn's speech, a high, beautiful sound that calmed even the most restless spirits; the mare lifted her head off the stallion and looked fully at Oona.
The stallion quickly did the same thing and their speaking instantly ceased.
***************************
Oona was terrified, she could feel the anger flowing out of the unicorns bodies as they stared at her, a fire in their eyes she would not think possible in a creature of their nature.
She averted her eyes and began to back up away from them and back into the safety of the trees, but they could sense her actions before she even began to do it.
The mare galloped around behind her cutting off her escape, as the stallion began to advance slowly upon her.
She screamed loudly at Jack,
"JACK! HELP ME!"
**************************
Jack began to run towards Oona and the advancing stallion to attempt to stop whatever was happening, he could also feel the anger seeping off them but could not understand why they would be so angry at Oona, how could anyone be angry towards such a perfect creature.
He reached the stallion and walked past him towards Oona, them turned to face the stallion and put both of his hands up in a sign of peace.
The stallion stopped and looked at Jack, and the sound of the unicorns filled the air once more.
The mare moved from behind Oona to behind the stallion and just stood there.
Jack felt the mare's mood soften and he became even more confused as it transformed to pity and sorrow.
**************************
Oona was no fool she knew exactly what the unicorns were so angry about.
What she had done to Jack, and she was not willing to die for him.
With the mare gone from behind her back she once again began to edge slowly away from the clearing and into the forest where she could easily hide until Jack came to find her.
When she got to the first tree she forgot all stealth and just turned into a ball of bright light and flew as fast as she could.
*************************
Jack felt Oona leave and was glad, he did not understand what was happening to the unicorns, perhaps they were confused as to who had got the stallion killed, he could not tell.
This of course was a new experience for Jack as he was the green man of the forest and he could communicate with all the animals in it. He could speak rabbit and hunt like a fox, but he could not understand these creatures.
The stallion as if sensing his confusion began to walk to Jack his anger also ebbing away into pity and...was that regret?
Jack was truly confused now and stared at the stallion hoping it would give some indication of what was happening.
He had no idea of what would happen next.......
