Revelations

“What have you done this time?” he asked smiling
“Rick I…” she began but was cut off as the door flew open and Ardeth stormed in.
“WRick watched Evie closely, she looked nervous, every time one of the servants came in with food or the newspaper she would flinch.
here is she?” he yelled
“Who” Rick asked confused
“That she-devil, she is gone as are all her things” both men turned to look at Evie
“Why do you assume I know where she is?” she asked
“Aside from the fact you are cousins, your car is gone” Ardeth replied anger radiating from every pore
Evie closed her eyes and sighed deeply
“I can’t tell you Ardeth, wait until the end of the week, I can’t tell you why either, you will just have to trust me”
“I made her mine Evie, I must marry her” Ardeth sighed sinking to the floor
“I don’t think I can survive with out her, it’s like she has bewitched me”
Rick noticed the way Evie stiffened at the statement she gave him a look as if to plead with him for a little help.
“Come Ardeth old friend, I think we should do as Evie says, she knows something she can’t tell us, we must trust it is for the best” Rick helped the warrior to his feet and guided him away. As he left the room he shot Evie a look that left her in no doubt he wanted to know what the hell was going on.

Later that evening Evie had finally cracked and told Rick everything.
“What the hell is it with our family. You’re a reincarnated princess, Alex was the way to Ahm Shere, your cousin is a guardian of innocents and I’m a scared Med-jai.” Rick stopped and then laughed
“What is it?” Evie asked
“I was just trying to figure out what the hell Jonathan could be”
The couple laughed together.
“Seriously Evie, we need to tell him”
“No we can’t tell him what she is. But we can tell him where she has gone, but not just yet, we need to give her a head start”
Rick nodded and pulled her to him, kissing her head. “We have to go with him don’t we?” He asked already knowing the answer
“Of course we do” Evie smiled, “I’m sure Jonathan won’t mind looking after Alex for a bit longer”
“You mean Alex won’t mind looking after Jonathan” Rick smiled, his brother in law and his son were always getting in trouble, but they had a knack of getting out of it just as well. He figured it had something to with there cheek;
“Well we best start making plans”
“I’ll leave that to you honey, you’re good at it.”
“You mean you’re going to occupy Ardeth’s time. He will be pining for Almara, Med-jai don’t sleep with just anyone, they have to love them deeply”
Rick just nodded

Ardeth felt like he was losing his mind, he had woken up and reached out for the woman he loved, only to find her gone, he had stomped off to her room to see what she was playing at only to find all her things gone. It had taken every ounce of strength for him not to curl up in a ball and cry. He knew that what Evie was doing was probably for the best, but he was going insane.

Almara had explained her experiences to the council, they had agreed with her on the course of action she had chosen, but told her after the book was returned and Ardeth was safe, she would have to marry him, for a Med-jai’s heart is not given lightly.
She was sitting at the edge of the compound, well it was more of a village really, it was beautiful. The compound was on high ground, it looked out over the desert, a place Almara had always longed to be. Her mind wandered back to Ardeth, the exact location of the Med-jai compound was not known although, the guardians new the rough area.
Almara looked around and saw Mett trying to sneak up on her.
“Nice try my friend” Almara smiled. The big cat purred a greeting and head butted Almara
“I’ve missed you, you were away so long. And there is something bothering you” the lion said after looking around to check no one was within earshot.
“Alas Mett, I have finally found a man I want to spend my life with”
“Ah the rumours are true then. The Med-jai chief has won your heart” the cat laughed
“Yes” Almara replied scratching Mett’s head affectionately
“But that is not what is bothering you my friend”
“I left him in England because I saw his death, I came back to find the man that will take his life before he fulfils the premonition. But I did not say goodbye”
“And you regret this because you fear he will hate you?”
“Yes” Almara replied tears falling from her amber eyes. Mett raised her paw and almost seemed to hug the woman.
“I suggest you have something to eat, freshen up and then we can go into Cairo and make some inquires” Mett said straightening up and gazing into her friends eyes. Almara nodded and hauled herself to her feet.
