Chapter 3 – In Too Deep
Jack woke in the middle of the night with no idea why other than the distinct feeling he should be awake. He blinked when he realised his arms were no longer holding Oria, he patted around him over the bed but she wasn’t there. A cold chill clasped his heart and he leapt out of her bed dragging his clothes on in any which way. Without a second to gather his thoughts he charged out of the cabin shouting her name fearfully. Something was going to happen and he wasn’t going to like it, he could feel it in his bones.
Jack cleared the cabin in less than a second and the deck in less than two, taking the steps up to the prow three at a time. He skidded to a stop next to Oria who was stood gazing over the ocean her hand clamped shut held over the ocean. Jack glanced down at the droplets on the banister, they glistened a bright crimson. He tugged her palm open and stared at the slash in her palm, “What is the point of this?”
Oria snapped her hand free, “I’m in too deep… I can’t do this anymore.” She glanced at Jack hiding any emotion from her eyes and locking it away, “Davy Jones is coming for me… I called for him.”
Jack stared at her dumbly, “Why?” Oria stared at him over her shoulder.
“Jack I’m assigned to kill you can you honestly think of no reason why I can’t do that?” Jack was beginning to feel a bit lost, he was obviously meant to pick up… realisation dawned. He pointed a finger at his chest numbly, Oria shook her head as he finally grasped the concept.
“Do you mean what I think you mean?” Jack whispered keeping the hope out of his voice as much as was physically possible.
“I do… and it’s killing me.” Maccus appeared next to her and clamped a hand about her elbow.
“Captain’s waiting.” Oria nodded and glanced at Jack.
“I just need one minute.” Maccus nodded and watched as she dragged Jack to the bottom of the stairs, he followed limply still in a state of shell shock, “Jack.”
His attention focused back on her slowly and he smiled faintly, “You still leaving?” Oria nodded.
“Jack listen to me now. Get the heart and save yourself, he won’t wait forever… your time is running out. Forget about me… I’m no good to you anyway…” She turned to head back up the steps and paused halfway up before charging back down and kissing him as passionately as she dared. Slowly she stepped backwards her fingers running over his jacket slowly as they trailed down from his cheeks regretfully, “Goodbye Jack.”
He stared as she jogged back up the steps without a backwards glance, shaking himself back awake he stormed back up them and stared. There was nothing there, no evidence that either had been there… no evidence that either had ever existed, “Oria?” No answer came and he felt cold.
:/
Oria met Davy Jones gaze with equal ferocity, “It was a mistake, nothing more. I can assure you that it will not happen again.”
“I assure ‘you’ my dear little one that it will not happen again.” Davy Jones bristled as he stared at the girl stood before him. She was trying to look defiant, she was barely pulling off looking meek. Drained was the only way he could describe her, “You are to be whipped forty strikes and shall not be leaving my side unless I have a task for you.”
“Aye Captain.” Jones paused at that.
“No challenge?” Oria lowered her gaze and gritted her teeth. She was trying to look annoyed but her heart wasn’t in it anymore, “He’s made you weak.” Jones whispered.
“I am not weak.” Davy Jones chuckled, at least there was anger in that tone.
“He’s made you into just another little lost girl desperate for a man to lead them by the hand.” Oria glared at him.
“I need no one to guide me, I need no one to survive.” Jones circled her slowly his hands folded behind his back, he smirked as her eyes followed him.
“You’ve turned into the same as every other female in your family, nothing more than a brood mare.” Oria drew her cutlass swiftly and swung for him violently, he met her strike with his claw arm and chuckled with mirth.
“I am not like them.” Oria whispered in a deadly tone before Jones knocked her cutlass aside with a broad laugh.
“Not only tamed but tamed by a pathetic little man only playing at being pirates.” She froze and stared at him all her anger gone and replaced with surprise. He was playing with her, getting her to show him that the hatred and anger was still there and she was falling for it. Well if he wanted to play she would play.
“Throw her in the brig, tomorrow at dawn she receives forty lashes and then goes back to the brig. No food or drink. Let’s see if we can’t get you a bit more eager to kill again for your keep.” Oria glared at him before Maccus grabbed her arm and dragged her away.
