Chapter Four
“There is no easy way for me to say this, so here it goes. I am the daughter of Hagen, Goody Pope’s bastard son. I am the only female ever born from his line.”
“Don’t you mean you are one of his decedents?” asked Reid.
“No, I don’t. I am his only daughter; I am over 300 years old. When Hagen was twenty he met my mother, he had a brief affair with her and I was the result. At the time he did not know of her darkest secret. She was a shape shifter and a powerful witch in her own right. They had kept their secrets to themselves. When I turned 13 I started to experience changes, I felt the pull of the moon, and the energy that flows through my body. My mother explained my heritage to me and after many arguments she finally told me who my father was. One year later she was killed by a hunter, she used to like to run through the woods, one day while in wolf form a hunter shot her. I tracked my father down and demanded an explanation from him; I wanted to know why he had left us. After aggressive persuasion on my part he admitted his own secret and the secret of the covenant. I have magic from both of my parents as well as my mother’s ability to shape shift.”
Oh my god, why are you immortal, if we use are bodies wear down and we age prematurely. You are over 300 years old and do not look a day over 18.” Caleb asked.
“I stopped aging the day I ascended.” Replied Lana.
Pogue, Tyler, and Reid could only stare, completely at a loss for words. Caleb shared a look with them and turned back to Lana, “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but what happened back there a few minutes ago. Don’t get us wrong it was completely amazing, but we have never seen or felt anything like that before.”
Lana closed her eyes a second to calm her emotions before answering, “Because I am a shape shifter, I have the same basic urges that animals do, we all do, but I feel them more intensely. When I felt the power from the four of you in the car, it sent me into overdrive. The power is seductive to me and add the basic primal urges to mate, well you seen what happens. When I choose, I will mate for life and it has been over 300 years, I have been waiting for all of you.”
Pogue sucked in his breath in complete shock at her statement “what do you mean you have been waiting for all of us?”
“I have the gift of foresight, I knew that I would have to wait a long time to fulfill my destiny, I have been waiting for all of you. I have seen it in my visions; you are all to be my mates, though when the time finally came I did not expect one of you to be involved with someone else. I see the way you are with Kate, Pogue please know that I would never force you into anything, but there is something you should all know.”
Reid and Tyler had both been quite up until this point but Tyler had to ask “what else is there to know? Please Lana tell us everything, we will not betray your trust.”
Lana reached over and placed her hand against Tyler’s cheek, closing her eyes, savoring the feeling of his skin beneath her palm. “I know you would not betray me, I will tell you everything, just give me a moment, and I am still slightly overwhelmed by your presence.”
Reid leaned over and placed his hand on Lana’s shoulder, gently massaging the tension from her neck, “it is ok take all the time you need.” Lana looked into every one of their faces, before taking a deep breath and telling them the rest, “As you are all destined to be my mates, I am destined to share me energy or power with all of you. If you all agree to do this we will form a circle of power, my power will become your power and yours mine. I do not age from using, I do not grow old, and I will not die of natural causes. That will be passed on to all of you, but you must not make this decision lightly, eternity is a long time.”
Pogue sat there staring at Lana while she explained everything, she looked up and caught his eye, he saw a brief flashing moment of pain there, “One last thing, it is all of or none of us. It will not work unless we are all united as one.”
Lana stood up, looking down at the guys “I am ready to go back to my dorm now; I will give you guys all the time you need to make your decisions. Please do not take this lightly, and no one can be forced into their decisions. I will wait for you to come to me.” Lana started walking back to the Hummer, opening the back door; she gracefully climbed in, waiting for the others.
Caleb looked around at everyone else and slowly climbed up off the ground, “let’s go, we will take Lana back to the dorms and we should all get some sleep.” Reid and Tyler where already starting toward the car, while Caleb waiting on Pogue. “Come on man, you don’t have to make a decision tonight. It is a lot to take in, and you more than any of us have some tough decisions to make.” Pogue stood up, and looked over at Caleb “I am still trying to come to terms with everything she told us.” Caleb laughed “I know what you mean, but let’s figure this out tomorrow.”
