Frustrated
Part IV
So that’s how it was going to be was it? Not only would she have to get through the labyrinth, but she would also have to fight her way around Jareth’s seductions. He had easily helped her waste more time with their little interlude in the clearing. She couldn’t allow that to happen again.
Even if it did set her body on fire, making her limbs want to melt and tremble so that she couldn’t move past where he placed her….
She gave herself a mental, as well as a physical shake. She had to keep moving. She had no idea what the labyrinth would have to offer her this time around. It had already proved its newer darkness to her, what else might it hold now that it hadn’t before?
She had ducked around a few corners quickly, not that Jareth wouldn’t be able to find her if he wanted to, but she thought it wise to put a little distance between them.
The further she went into the heart of the new labyrinth, the darker and more twisted it became. Paths were littered with more weeds and lichen, each pathway she turned down was darker and more overgrown.
She finally decided that the over all feeling of dread she was getting was from sickness. There was a sickness here that had never been here the last time she had tried to find her way through the labyrinth. Something was not right with the labyrinth and she didn’t think it had to do with Jareth’s direct orders.
Surely it couldn’t have anything to do with her?
She finally slipped through another opening and emerged into a slightly lighter niche then before. Up until now, the walls had been covered in dying greenery and eyes and odd rustlings had appeared just ahead of her and just behind. Now she had come back out into the more desertlike entryways that she had gotten so frustrated in before.
She had tried marking the flagstones before, but someone had kept going around behind her and moving her marks.
She still wished she could find out who to give them a swift kick in the……
She growled a little under her breath and moved determinably forward. This section of the labyrinth was also different in that now instead of being blacker then pitch, lights were hung above to illuminate the moonless night.
She could still vaguely see glimpses of the castle when she glanced up. She knew she was moving in the right direction. She hoped she didn’t get stuck here like she had last time.
Her body still ached…what wouldn’t she have done to stay back there with Jareth…she sighed and continued steadily ahead.
Suddenly there was a scream up ahead. Sarah froze, not sure what to do. Go forward? Stay put? Or run like all hell?
A/N: Sorry that this is such a sort chapter and that its taken me so long. This story is driving me nuts and it just won't cooperate with me. I guess the goblins are up to their usual no good and have decided to lead me down a different path than I had expected! My muse has been bitching at me that her socks keep disappearing and that someone keeps eating all of her jalapenos. Maybe this story will start going more smoothly when we figure out how to set goblin traps and corner Jareth into responding to our emails. Hope this atleast wets the appetite!
