Nightmares and Futures
Chapter 4
Talon entered the busy café. It had only been two days since Mara left for vacation, so he was quite surprised when she called him and asked him to meet her at once. He finally spotted Mara, who was sitting at a back booth with Luke.
“Thanks for coming Talon,” Mara said.
“Mind telling me what this is all about?” Talon asked, nodding to Luke and sitting across from them.
“Talon, Mara took a vacation because of me. For three months now, someone has been sending me nightmares, violent ones. Leia called her. They got so bad that I nearly attacked both Leia and Mara,” Luke explained.
“What! Is that how you got that black eye!” Talon demanded.
“The black eye was an accident. I found Luke having a nightmare two nights ago. I was trying to pin his arms down and his elbow connected with my face. He didn’t know until he saw it the next morning,” Mara answered, trying to calm her boss down.
Talon relaxed a little. He knew Luke would never purposely hurt Mara. “Okay, I don’t see how I can help. I’m not a shrink,”
“Talon, we believe a dark Jedi is behind this. What we need from you is your help. Do you know if there are any records of Jedi who survived the purges by Palpatine?” Luke questioned.
“How should I know,” Talon exclaimed.
“Come on Karrde. We need help. All records of the Jedi here on Coruscant were destroyed by Palpatine. Any other information that could help us would be somewhere else,” Mara groaned.
“Well, I may be able to ask Aves to do some searching. I may also know one or two groups who could find something,” Talon sighed.
“Thanks Karrde,” Mara smiled.
“Yes, thank you Talon,” Luke nodded.
“You’re welcome, but I’m not guaranteeing anything. There may not be anything left to find,” Talon replied.
“If there is anything to find, you’ll find it,” Mara stated confidently.

Leia stood in the kitchen working on dinner with Mara. She had been so relieved when Luke had asked if he and Mara could join her and Han for dinner. Shortly after arriving, Luke and Mara told them they were in love.
“Mara,” Leia said.
“Yeah?” Mara asked as she worked on the salad.
“I just want to say how happy I am for you and Luke. As well as thank you. You have always made my brother smile, even when you were trying to kill him,” Leia answered.
“You never need to thank me. Luke saved me. He completed my training and taught me not only how to live and what it was like to have friendships, but to love as well,” Mara smiled.
“Have you and Luke talked about what you will do?” Leia questioned.
“Right now, we’re more concerned with finding who is behind Luke’s nightmares. After that crisis is over, then we can talk about the future,” Mara replied.
Luke and Han were sitting in the living room. Han was glad to see his brother-in-law and best friend smiling again. When Luke and Mara had told him and Leia they were in love, he couldn’t have been happier for them.
“How’s the FALCON?” Luke asked.
“Same as always. At least the hyperdrive isn’t busted. This time it’s the rear stabilizers now,” Han answered with a sigh.
“Maybe it’s time you broke down and got a new ship,” Luke said.
“No way. That ship has saved my ass too many times,” Han argued.
Luke couldn’t help but laugh at his friend. At that moment, Leia and Mara brought out the food. Han and Luke stood up and moved to the table. Just as Luke pulled out Mara’s chair it hit.
“AAAHHH!” Luke screamed and clutched his head.
“Luke!” Mara cried as he crumpled to the floor.
Luke began seizing. Leia rushed to call a doctor while Han and Mara held Luke down. Mara pulled off her belt and managed to get in Luke’s mouth to keep him from biting off his own tongue. Leia ran back into the room.
“A medical team is on the way,” Leia said.
“Luke. Luke, stay with us buddy,” Han spoke softly to Luke.
“Hang on baby. Hang on,” Mara pleaded as he continued to seize.

Leia sat on the sofa next to Han while Mara stood at the window. Luke passed out just as the medical team arrived. For an hour now, the team had been in the guest room working on Luke.
“Leia, did you find anything in those documents from Kasynia?” Mara asked.
“No. The documents only held information on the Jedi stationed there during the Clone Wars. Of course, all those Jedi were killed by their clone troops,” Leia answered sadly.
“Then what do we do?” Han sighed.
“Luke and I met with Talon this morning. He may know one or two groups that could help us. Let’s hope they can find something,” Mara replied.
“Councilor Organa Solo,” the doctor said, exiting the bedroom.
“How is he Doctor Levitt?” Leia questioned as she got to her feet.
“Master Skywalker is resting comfortably for the moment. He had another seizure while we were working on him. I recommend that he be moved to the medical center,” Levitt explained.
“Doc, we believe a dark Jedi is behind Luke’s condition. For three months now he’s been suffering from violent nightmares. That’s how I got my black eye, from trying to pin his arms down during one of his nightmares,” Mara added.
“Then I’ll send for Cilghal at his academy. Either way, he needs to be monitored in case he has additional seizures,” Levitt nodded.
“Guess the kid has no choice. Can we see him?” Han stated heavily.
“Yes, but only one at a time. He needs his rest,” Levitt responded.

Mara finally entered the room. The lights were low and the soft beep of a heart monitor were what she noticed first. Luke laid on the bed, dozing softly. He had two machines hooked up to him. One for his heart and the other for brain activity.
“I see they finally let you in,” he teased as she sat on the bed.
“Saving the best for last,” she smiled.
“Definitely the best,” he beamed.
“They’re moving you to the medical center in the morning,” she elucidated dolefully.
“Leia told me,” he said in a neutral voice.
“Listen to me, we’ll get through this. I’ll be right there with you. Levitt is sending for the healer at the academy. No matter what anyone says, I’m staying at your side,” she insisted.
Luke extended his right hand out and grasped Mara’s hand. She reached over and placed her other hand on his cheek. Over their bond, Mara sent all the love she could. She would do everything in there was inside her to help Luke get his life back.

Chapter 4
