Gotham's New It Girl

What Happens In Gotham

By: TheDisasterousChibi

Last Time:

“Hello Bruce.” Rachel replied, Katarina could have imagined it but for a split second panic was evident on Rachel face.

“And you must be Harvey Dent. I’m Bruce Wayne.” putting out a hand for Harvey to shake Bruce gave him a smirk which Katrina thought looked more then a little forced.

“And you my beauty, who might you be.” Bruce had turned his attention onto Katarina, who oh-so-hated to be interrupted so she curtly replied in a very heated manner.

“I’m the woman you just interrupted with your need for a grand entrance. Please to meet you” she bit out.

People all around the restaurant who where previously making small talk or laughing froze. Everyone was silent as they waited opened mouthed for Bruce Wayne’s response to such a venomous comment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter Four: Gotham’s New It Girl

Katarina new that Bruce Wayne was an important person; he was the Lex Luther of Gotham. It was terribly unlucky for Mr. Wayne that she really didn’t give a shit who he was.

Bruce Wayne, playboy, philanthropist, and all around burner of the moral codes of society couldn’t help but stare at the woman before him. He was shocked, but not for long. He opened his mouth and peels of laughter left his throat, immediately easing the atmosphere.

“Well it seems you’ve aided me in making a grand entrance.” Bruce Wayne said as he turned fully to face Katarina, holding out his hand for her to take; a peace offering.

“Let’s try that again shall we? I’m Bruce Wayne and who might you be?” the chocolate eyed man said his hand still in that air waiting to be grasped.

“Katarina Napier” she said grasping his hand firmly in her own.

He turned her hand until the back faced him, bent down and kissed the smooth flesh of her hand, all the while looking into her eyes. “It’s a pleasure to meet you” he said his breath tickling her hand.

“The pleasures all yours Mr. Wayne.” was her snide come back. “This is my son Jack, at her sons amusing glare she corrected herself, I’m sorry this is my son J.C.”

“Nice to meet you kiddo.” straightening himself Bruce shook the boys small hand.

“Nice to meet you too Mr. Wayne.” was J.C’s polite response.

“Please, Mr. Wayne was my father, call me Bruce.”

“Okay Mr. Bruce.”

“Now shall we put some table together?” Bruce said as he reclaimed his hold on the blond beauty beside him, his gaze fixed on Rachel. That did not escape Katarina’s observant eyes, or Harvey’s.

“I don’t think we’re allowed to do that.” was Harvey’s quick reply. His smile conveyed a simple message of ’take that’.

“Of course we can, after all I own the place.” said Bruce giving Harvey a ‘suck on that’ victory smile.

At the clap of his hand two waiters came rushing to see to his needs. Like eager young puppies looking for a tummy rub in the form of a nice tip.

“How can we be of service Mr. Wayne?” the two brunets chorused, bowing in time, like a synchronized dance.

“Please place another table here and grab us some menus boys.” was Bruce’s command.

‘This is going to be a long night’ Harvey, Rachel and Katarina thought.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“So Katarina, as an outsider, what do you think of Gotham’s Dark knight?” the lead ballerina to the Russian ballet, better know as Bruce’s arm candy, asked Katarina.

They had been enjoying a relatively civil meal, with lots of small talk and that sort of thing.

Taking a sip of her water Katarina answered, “Well, he’s no Superman, but I believe that he’s a good effect on the city. And I’m not an outsider Miss Natasha. I moved out of Gotham eight years ago.”

‘More like ran way, but miss snotty doesn’t need to know that’ Katarina thought.

“I would have to disagree.” was the blonde’s response.

‘Of course’

“What kind of man goes around dressed as a bat. He’s a criminal, even if he is doing well to the city. It can not last for long.” giving Katarina a plastic smile the blonde gave her unwanted opinion.

“I would have to agree with Katarina” Harvey said coming to her defense, “the Batman is helping Gotham city in more ways then one. Today Rachel and I almost put Maroni behind bars. All thanks to the Batman”

“I think he’s really cool. On the internet they say he’s seven feet tall.” an exited J.C joined the conversation.

“Silly child, he’s a vigilante, a bad man. Children shouldn’t talk of what they don’t know.” Natasha responded, killing the child’s glee.

“And what would a ballerina know of criminals? Perhaps you should take your own advice.”

‘No one messes with my baby and gets away with their ego in one piece.’ the enraged officer thought.

“You, Miss Katarina, speak as if a mother would know of such things.” the obviously ruffled blonde bit back.

“I’m the newest Lieutenant of the Gotham Police Department. I was personally assigned to the Joker case. I also happen to have a PH.D on Criminal Psychology. I believe I meet plenty of qualification to know what I’m talking about.” now she was really pissed.

“Ladies, ladies, if you’re going to fight please allow me time to get a ring, some mud and an audience. That would be quite a show.” with a lecherous grin in Katarina’s direction Bruce successfully averted her anger from the Russian blonde onto himself. Not the smartest of idea, but Kat would let it go.

For now.

“Mom, what’s a Joker?” her son asked her, one look at his angelic face vanquished all her anger.

“He’s the one Mom’s here to help catch baby.” Katarina informed her son.

“So he’s a bad guy?” J.C continued to question his mother.

“Maybe or maybe not. He could just be insane baby. If he is then I’ll help put him in Arkham Asylum. A hospital for crazies.” Katarina explained.

“Mom do you think you’ll get to meet Batman while you help the police.” the hope in her baby boys face caused a bright smile to crawl across Katarina’s face, her first genuine smile since Bruce Wayne arrived.

Speaking of Wayne, he seemed to get nervous when ever Batman was mentioned. It wasn’t obvious but someone with as much experience and knowledge in reading people and their minds knew when some one was hiding something. And Mr. Bruce Wayne definitely had a secret, one that Rachel seemed to share if her slight flinches where any evidence.

Interesting.

“Well, as lovely as this evening has been Rachel and I have to work tomorrow. I’m sure that Katarina also has to go down to the station.” Harvey said smoothly cutting into the awkward silence that had over taken their table.

“Yes, J.C has school tomorrow morning as well.” Katarina supplied. Hoping to retire for the evening. It had been as long two days. That’s also not counting the fact that she had barely slept.

“Yes we’d all best be going. This meal is on the house Harvey, don’t worry about it.” Bruce said as he saw Harvey reaching for his wallet. Harvey didn’t seem to like that, but he remained quiet when Rachel placed a hand on his clenched fist.

“I bid you all a good night” said the flamboyant man known as Bruce Wayne, “ Oh and Rachel make sure Harvey doesn’t forget to polish off his shoes for that fundraiser this Saturday.” he finished with a wink to Rachel, who looked furious.

Taking a hold of Katarina’s hand for another kiss Bruce had no idea how close he came to receiving a concussion as he said. “I hope to see the lovely Miss Napier and her son there as well.”

“It’s MRS. Napier and don’t worry Mr. Wayne we’ll be there for Harvey and for the wonderful food you’re sure to have.” Katarina said making sure to add extra spite and venom for Harvey and to emphasize Mrs. for her own benefit.

“Good night all.” with a laugh Bruce Wayne and his annoying blonde friend were gone.

“You know, I don’t know if I want to kill him or maim him.” Katarina said out loud. Harvey and Rachel nodded their heads in agreement.

“I thought he was really cool” J.C said adding his to cents, earning himself three disbelieving looks.

“What?!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weeks passed by in a rush. Katarina had read every single file in existence about the Joker, and didn’t find out a whole lot considering the amount of reading she had to do.

Rachel and Harvey quickly became some of Katarina’s favorite new people. J.C adored them and they were title Auntie Ray and Uncle Harvey. Kids!

Bruce Wayne also kept making an appearance in Katarina’s live, even if it was not in person. Apparently the Paparazzi and Tabloids thought it would be amusing if they printed out an article complete with pictures about Bruce Wayne’s new cop friend.

God how she hated freedom of the press.

J.C still insisted that “Mr. Wayne was really cool.”

Needless to say the GPD was flooded with reporters and photographer until Lieutenant Gordon, a wonderful caring man, put a stop to their party.

Katarina was eternally grateful to the man she shared a post with. God bless him.

The only reason that Katarina was now going to the fundraiser was that she had a clear shot at Bruce Wayne, to bad murder was illegal, she was going to put him in his place. And hopefully take all the snotty people that would criticize Harvey too.

Hell Hath No Fury Like A Katarina Napier Scorned.

Bruce Wayne look out Kat was on the prowl.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It wasn’t until Saturday morning as J.C slept and Rachel was showing Kat her gown for the evening that something occurred to Katarina.

She didn’t own anything that would be presentable for the fundraiser.

And neither did J.C for that matter.

Crap!

When she told Rachel this the petite woman stared at her open mouthed until she grabbed Katarina, both there pursed and keys and made her way to the door, pulling Kat along the entire time.

“Katarina you tell me this now. It’s Saturday! We have to find you a dress, J.C’s tuxedo will be easy, but where are we going to find you the perfect dress.” Rachel, who was becoming more desperate by the second said.

“Rachel, at least let me leave a note for J.C, it note likely he’ll wake up but just in case.” Katarina said searching for some paper, after she got the crazy lady to let her go.

"Don’t worry I’ll call Harvey and ask him to baby sit. He loves J.C” Rachel said as her fingers dialed a familiar number.

Katarina left her and went to J.C’s room; softly opening the door Katarina entered the room.

Her baby boy was fast asleep his curly hair like a halo around his face and on the pillow.

Sitting by his bed Kat leaned in to give him a quick kiss on the forehead. As lights it was it woke him up.

“Mom?” J.C groggy voice called out.

“Hey baby. Harvey is coming over to stay with you while mom goes shopping with Rachel for the party.” she greeted her son.

“Oh yeah, I get to see Mr. Bruce today. Mom can I go back to sleep please.” J.C was unable to get overly exited in the morning.

‘Just like his dad. Use to take me forever to get him out of bed, but no time at all to get him in it.’ Kat blushed at her naughty thoughts.

“Yeah baby go back to sleep. I’ll keep the crazy lady busy and out of the house, you sleep.” giving him another quick kiss Katarina exited the room as her son called out a sleepy good bye.

“Bye Mom, Love you.”

“Sleep tight baby.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Rachel we’ve been to ten stores already, nothing fits me that doesn’t need to be tailored. Can’t we just give up?” an exhausted Katarina asked Rachel.

“No there is one place left. Our last hope. Come on we’re almost there.” linking her arms with Katarina’s more as a means to keep her from running them out of friendship. Rachel continued to drag our poor heroine down the streets of uptown Gotham.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Rachel I got to hand it to you. You’re right that place was great, the dress is beautiful and it doest need to be tailored, a miracle in itself.” Katarina said as they climbed the steps of Rachel’s apartment building.

“You Kat are the hardest person to shop for but we did it with two hours until the party starts.” Rachel said her voice and attitude that of a sated cat.

“You’re just picky. J.C’s tuxedo is so adorable I can’t wait top dress him up in it.” Katarina giggle as she thought of her son’s reaction to the suit.

Opening the front door both women’s thoughts drifted to the party as they greeted the men’s of their lives.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Katarina Napier are you ready yet?” the pounding on the bathroom door made Katarina roll her eyes.

“Rachel you where in here for almost an hour! Let me finish I’m almost done.” shouting to the door Katarina continued to apply her make up.

She had decided to go for the classic smoky eyes, the main colors being silver and black, bringing out the honey undertones of her dark brown eyes, and a red lipped finish. A little blush gave her cheeks some color. Her extremely long hair was curly thanks to Rachel who had spent the better part of half and hour curling it and cursing at Katarina for having such long hair.

Her ebony dress barely held in her bust, the only thing keeping it in place where two thin straps on her right shoulder, the dress was completely backless, though that was hidden by her black locks. The dress hugged hr body’s shape until the top of her thighs and then gradually loosened until it pooled at her feet.

The silver sparkles of the dress highlighted the key feature of her body. The silver high heels on her surprisingly small feet gave her a three inch boost putting her at six feet, matching Harvey.

Walking out of the bathroom Katarina was greeted by her son, whose hair was slicked back at the top and gently curled at the end.

“Mom you look so pretty.” her son complemented her. “Like a princess”

‘You look like a princess, my princess’ the words ran in Katarina’s voice. Those where the word Jack had whispered into her ear when they stood at the alter listening to the minister.

Smiling at the carbon copy of the man she had loved Katarina gave him a blinding smile and said, “You don’t look so bad yourself Jack”

“Your going to call me by my grown up name all night aren’t you mom?” Jack questioned.

“Oh you bet. You don’t look like my baby J.C. You look like such a young man.” Katarina said as she took her son’s hand in her own.

Catching sight of Rachel and Harvey standing together Katarina couldn’t help but tease them a little. “I think I’m going blind. The power couple is too much to look at”

“Ha ha, very funny Katarina.” Rachel rolled her eyes at her newly acquired friend. She could help but feel a little jealous. The woman before her was stunning and graceful, nothing like the crude out spoken woman, who was still beautiful, that she knew.

“Take a joke Dawes. You look every beautiful.” Katarina laughed as Rachel struck a posse for her.

“As much as J.C and I love listening to you two mock fight we are going to be late to our own fundraiser.” Harvey stated.

“Don’t worry Harvey, Katarina said as they exited the apartment, what could possibly go wrong at a Bruce Wayne party?”

Oh The Irony.
