"Hey, sorry about earlier."
Halo and Clay were in the woods, gathering firewood. Even though they were staying in cabins (tents gave everyone nightmares or freakouts), they were going to roast marshmallows later that night. Alice and Whitney were fixing up the cabins. Whitney refused to go outside. Tommy was getting their stuff from the van while Rowan did some work on her laptop in her cabin.
"It's okay," Halo muttered. "I get it Clay."
"No, its not. I upset you."
Then, he took his face in his hands and kissed her. They had been hooking up for a couple weeks. They had met a year ago, when Clay and Whitney had joined the group. Despite their constant fighting, they were close. Best friends, in fact. After a Jason attack, it was hard to make friends with others. So they had gravitated towards each other and then this had happened.
"Damn," Halo whispered. "You always do this to me."
"Hailey, you're always angry. But you have every right to be."
"So do you."
Clay kissed her again and pressed her closer. Halo dropped her pile and pulled him towards the ground. She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling his lower body closer to hers, wanting to feel something beside all the anger. She trailed her hands down his front, and then around so she could un-do his belt. He gave in and she pressed her hand to his erection. He slid his hand under her t-shirt.
"Hail, maybe we shouldn't," Clay whispered raggedly one last time/
"No, we should. Jason is dead and we should celebrate our lives," Halo answered and un-did the shiny button on her jeans.
Oh how wrong she was.
Not too far away, Jason stood in the shadows of the trees watching. Rage boiled over in his blood and he wanted to cut through the man. This was his good girl and he was making her do this. It had been so long. The good girl had gotten older. Her hair wasn't curly, but straight and it hid her face as the man hovered over her. He knew this man. That man had taken his mama's spirit. And he should have died, but he had tried to kill him.
Jason watched his girl's face twist in happiness and she grabbed the man's back, clawing at his skin. She didn't mean any of it. He was making her, lying to her. He didn't care. Jason did. That was why he had saved her. One day, she was going to love him the way she should and everything would be okay.
After they were done, Hailey grabbed her branches and went back to the cabins. After she left them where they should, she went into the bathroom of the girl's cabin. Her secret was in the secret compartment of her bag. She slid out the needle, spoon and vial. Her lighter was in her pocket, along with her cigarettes. That was a mild vice. This was serious, it could kill her. But it hadn't yet. It was a way to deal. She wouldn't have to think about it.
Perched on the sink, she put the lighter under the spoon after she put the contents of the vial in it. It boiled and then she put it in the needle. The shiny point slid under her skin and she pressed down on the plunger.
"Now all I want to know Is how to go I've tasted blood and I want more," she sang as the high came over her and she fell off the sink.
