chapter 46

Chapter 46:

A/N: Jack and Elizabeth arrive at Tia Dalma’s where Jack asks about the map to the hidden city of El Dorado and it’s treasure. But she ignores him when Elizabeth enters the hut and goes on to talk about the strength of the aura of the baby growing inside her. Please read and review it encourages me to update!

Jack paced in front of his cabin anxiously as the Pearl sailed into the harbor that led to the mouth of the river where Tia Dalma lived. He only came to visit the witch whenever he absolutely needed her help with something. And finding the lost city of El Dorado and it’s legendary treasure definitely qualified as one of those times. Elizabeth came out of the cabin to stand behind Jack when he stopped in front of the door. She wrapped her arms around his waist loosely and laid her head against his back.

“Is it time Jack?”

“Nearly love….jus’ a bit longer.”

Nodding she sighed heavily as she let her tired eyes close for a moment. As of late she had been feeling increasingly lightheaded ever since the day she had collapsed on the deck. Not really wanting to worry Jack she hadn’t mentioned it to him. Suddenly the urge to ask her husband about the reason they were paying the witch a visit popped into her head.

“Jack?”

“Hmmm?”

“Just what exactly are we coming to see Tia Dalma about again?”

“T’ see if I can persuade her t’ give me the map t’ the city of El Dorado.”

“It had better not be too friendly of persuasion.”

“Not t’ worry darling….yer the only one who gets that kind of persuasion.”

Squeezing him tightly for a moment before letting him go she then stood upright to look over his shoulder. When the Pearl reached a few feet away from the mouth of the river Jack gave the order to drop anchor and lower the longboat. A short time later Jack and Elizabeth were sitting in the longboat ready to row upriver to Tia Dalma’s hut. Jack shouted his orders up to Gibbs who was leaning over the railing looking down at them.

“Yer in charge until we get back mate!”

“Aye captain!”

Jack used one of the oars to push off from the Pearl and then began rowing towards the mouth of the river. Elizabeth’s tea colored eyes darted all around the heavily wooded marsh that surrounded the banks of the river. The last time they had been here was before Jacob had been born. In fact she hadn’t even started to show she had been so early into her pregnancy. Not that it had made any difference to Tia Dalma because she had mentioned the baby the moment Elizabeth had entered the rickety little hut that she lived in. It wasn’t long before Jack was rowing the boat up to the little pier and tying the line off to hold it steady. Standing up he stepped onto the pier and then held out his hand for Elizabeth to get out of the longboat. They walked hand in hand down the pier until they reached the steps that led to Tia Dalma’s hut. Climbing the steps first Jack glanced over his shoulder to flash a quick smile down at Elizabeth who followed up after him.

He knocked lightly on the door before opening it and walking in. Elizabeth padded slowly into the little hut behind her husband still grasping his hand tightly in her own. Tia looked up from her stones and crab claws and flashed a broad smile her ink stained teeth clearly visible. Elizabeth ran her tongue across her own teeth before forcing a smile back at the witch. Jack let go of Elizabeth’s hand to embrace Tia as she approached them.

“Jack Sparrow!”

“Tia Dalma…it’s been too long love!”

“How is de baby boy?”

Elizabeth’s eyes widened in shock. How could the witch have known that she had given birth to a son? Jack spoke up.

“Jacob is jus’ fine…growing like a weed.”

“Jacob Sparrow…what a fine name. So tell me Jack…what brings ye here?”

“M’ in need of a favor love.”

“What kind of favor?”

“I need the map t’ El Dorado.”

“An’ jus’ what do ye have that ye can barter for de map?”

“How bout I jus’ pay ye for it after I get the treasure?”

Tia frowned at Jack’s answer. Elizabeth stepped out from behind Jack to look around the hut. Suddenly Tia’s dark brown eyes grew wide. She pushed past Jack and walked over to Elizabeth.

“Dere be something different bout ye Elizabeth Sparrow.”

Elizabeth turned to face Tia Dalma flinching a bit when the witch reached out and placed her hand against her stomach lightly. She looked to Jack who shrugged his shoulders at her in confusion.

“Dat is quite a strong aura from de baby dat is growing inside ye.”

“Beg pardon? Baby?”

“Yes a baby. Ye are pregnant Elizabeth.”

“But I…that can’t be right. I just had a miscarriage not long ago.”

“It is true…ye are with child.”

“Can you tell how far along?”

“Maybe bout a little more than a month an’ ye will be blessed with a girl dis time.”

Elizabeth looked over to Jack who smiled back at her. Tia walked back over to her table beckoning for Jack to approach. He sat down at the table across from her as she rummaged through a small chest that sat on the table.

“Consider dis a welcoming gift for de baby girl ye will have in a few months.”

Handing Jack a folded up piece of leather she then looked up at Elizabeth.

“Now take good care of dat baby Elizabeth…she is a precious gift.”

“I will…thank you.”

“Don’t thank me…thank God…for she is truly a blessing. Now go an’ find dat treasure ye seek Jack Sparrow.”

“Thanks Tia Dalma….I really owe ye one for this love.”

“I said it was a gift…now go before I change my mind.”

Nodding he took Elizabeth’s hand and led her out of the hut. He helped her into the longboat and then used an oar to shove off from the pier to head back downriver towards the Pearl. Jack couldn’t seem to keep the goofy grin off his face as he rowed back to his beloved Pearl. A baby! They were going to have another baby! Elizabeth sat in silence her right hand pressed lightly against her stomach. She couldn’t believe that she was pregnant again! And Tia Dalma had said that she was having a girl this time. Jack shook her shoulders gently to get her attention when they made it back to the Pearl. They climbed up the side of the Pearl and back onto the main deck. Pintel and Ragetti carefully raised the longboat. Elizabeth wandered into their cabin and sank down onto the sofa. Jack followed her into the cabin shutting the door behind him. He sank down beside her placing his hands on her stomach gently.

“Are ye alright love?”

“I’m fine…..just a little surprised is all.”

“Yes….the news of another runt on the way was a bit unexpected. But not t’ worry…I promise t’ take good care of ye darling. So tonight we celebrate the happy news!”

Before Elizabeth could stop him Jack left her alone to announce to the crew the news of her pregnancy. Sighing heavily she got up and walked over to the bed to lie down. How could she tell him that she wasn’t exactly in the mood to celebrate when he was so happy? She was terrified that she would suffer another miscarriage and she feared that losing another child just might be too much for her to handle. Lying on her stomach she pressed her cheek into the pillow and shut her eyes as tears began to leak through her lashes to be absorbed by the linen covering the pillow. She just couldn’t lose this baby…..it would make her lose her mind if she did. And what would it do to her and Jack? Shaking her head she squeezed her eyes shut tighter feeling more tears run down her face. That wasn’t something she wanted to think about right now. She just had to push those thoughts aside for the time being and force herself to celebrate with Jack and the rest of the crew.

A/N: Okay Elizabeth is feeling a little scared about the possibility of losing another baby and she is afraid to tell Jack about it. What will keeping her feelings to herself do to their marriage? Please read and review! Thanks for the latest reviews!
